Arsenal have confirmed that Jurrien Timber has suffered an ACL injury and requires surgery ahead of a period of rehabilitation.
In a statement issued this afternoon, they say:
Further to detailed assessments with consultant specialists since Saturday, we can confirm that Jurrien Timber has sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Jurrien will undergo surgery in the coming days and will be out of action for a period of time.
The support and expertise from our medical team and everyone at the club will now be focussed on Jurrien’s rehabilitation programme, to ensure he recovers well and is back playing as soon as possible.
It is a big blow for the player and for the team, and it remains to be seen if this news will have any impact on transfer plans – whether that’s an addition, or a possible departure put on the back burner.
In the meantime, all we can do is wish the Dutch international a speedy and uncomplicated recovery.
Gutted to share my injury is more serious than expected, especially after the warm welcome I’ve received. I wanted to repay you on the pitch, which will not be possible for the forthcoming period. Thanks for making me feel at home and see you at The Carpet 🫶🏾 #COYG pic.twitter.com/m1lBqzMKJd

It is what it is. Accept it and move on.
We will be just fine.
Wishing Jurrien a speedy recovery.
You need to learn Miki, when you whip out your timber and it gets hurt, you put it away, it’s just wrong to continue to play….
(nervous smiling sweaty faced emoji)….
It could have been in training in a mild challenge. The concept of “could have been avoided” is only valid if he doesn’t train and doesn’t play in games.
KDB injured for a long petiod of time. No advantage for City compared to us.
Agreed.
We don’t have to find a scapegoat for everything. Sometimes it’s just shit luck.
But to lose your timber for six months – that is harsh! Look after your timber – you’ve only got one!
I can’t think of any player with the same injury, coming back after 6 months
Missed a triple entendre (?) trick there by not pointing van Persie at the porcelain.
Hope recovers soon without complications.
Out of interest has a successor to Gary O’Driscoll been found and is Gary still there? Not for one moment blaming any one, but it does seem strange keeping on someone moving to a competitor, rather than putting on garden leave or letting leave. I am surprised Arsenal are happy for someone leaving to be involved with big medical decisions for players and for them to have intel on injured players. To be fair he may not be involved.
Is AB100 a section of KGB?
Quick Recovery…
No chance. ACL injuries take many months usually to heal. He could be gone for the season.
Unfortunately Fats speaks truth here. Finger crossed it’s less than normal, but this will be a long one. Maybe we’ll see him back to help us make a final title push.
I’d go further and say we should essentially shelve him for the season. If he comes back for some late season training, great, but there is zero point in pushing him to make contributions. We didn’t sign him just for 2023/24. He should have a long and prosperous Arsenal career even post ACL (ACL surgery is really incredible these days – if proper recover and rehab is met). The only way this could be anything but season ending is if it’s not a complete tear, but that doesn’t seem likely with the impending surgery (and even then, why push it?!)…
There’s no such thing as a quick recovery from an ACL mate.
You’re looking at April at the earliest. Realistically out for the whole season.
Ah really sad news 🙁
He was such an exciting prospect in his first few games. Made the team look powerful.
I really hope that he can recover well, and get back to the levels he showed with us in pre-season ❤️
B*llocks, he was looking like a great addition to the first team squad.
Alex is back but FUCK ME 🤦🏻♂️
Terrible news. God bless him
Bellerin was flying until this same ACL curse hit; he was never the same player.
I hope Timber, as his name implies, is made of sterner stuff, and will return to full fitness. Get well soon, Timber.
I think Hector was more reliant on his speed to provide an “edge” over the opposition. So hopefully the long-term impact on Timber will be less (fingers crossed).
Bellerin was mainly dependent on pace and hence he struggled. Timber might just be back stronger like chilwell.
Very different player. Timber is more technical than Hector. Whilst this might knock a yard off his pace, it shouldn’t affect his game too much otherwise. Plus, he’s a little younger than Hector was when he suffered his, so his recovery may be easier.
I hope so anyway.
Good point. Very much depends on the individual. Some get back to their best but some do not. Fingers crossed!
Fresnada it is then…….
Simakand looks impressive
We have enough Depth. COYG
How much months out does it usually mean for ACL injuries?
6-9
Plus the usuall months ahead getting rid of comeback niggles and getting match fitness.
I think this season is done. Anything better than that should be seen as a bonus.
Definitely most likely he is done for the season (or at least should be). No sense rushing him back for the final few weeks of the season when he wouldn’t be in game shape and still not close to 100% especially when he is so young and has a long career in front of him. As J2W said players coming off of long term injuries often end up with other issues such as muscular injuries or set backs with their primary injury especially if rushing back. I would prefer to see him get a full 11 months or recovery in… Read more »
Rotten luck
Something needs looking at what’s happening at the training ground. The womens team had 3 serious knee injuries last season and now already Timber. Yes it can be seen as just unfortunate but 4 in this calendar year is just too many to be a coincidence.
I suspect women have a totally different training programme, so not much of a comparison
He’s just arrived. Don’t think it’s anything to do with the training ground! More likely playing him out of position on his “wrong foot”, sticking him back on after the initial injury (unforgivable if this is indeed a medical team blunder) then he has to compensate in a tackle he’s already off balance on because he’s not left footed…! I’m fkn sick of this “invert any cnt anywhere” bs…players are stronger in the roles they are physically able to play at 100%!
I said the same exact thing to a friend the other day. They will cuss you out on here but I think the medical team and this whole ‘invertion’ thing without giving the guy ample preparation in moving so forcful in a direction his body is not used caused the injury and I do know a thing or too about exercise and body movement.
There’s been a rash of ACL injuries across the league and Europe recently. It’s nothing to do with the training ground as much as it is that these players – both men and women – never get to really stop.
ACL is plaguing the women’s game at the moment and seems to be physiologically related to women rather than a training schedule. It wasn’t just arsenal
Women have always gotten ACL injuries at vastly higher rates than men.
Any idea if trans women get same acl injuries as biological women 😜
Hoping for a great recovery and no setbacks for Jurrien. I hope keep Tierney rather than dip back into the market for backup. He’s still a great player and maybe having a classic full back will be needed at times this season.
Can Raya play as s left back?
I know its been discussed to death but i really have an issue with the medical team at the moment. For the player its rotten luck but however you look at it they don’t come out of this looking good. I can understand if there was no other option but they had THREE left sided defenders on the bench, its the first game of the season and we was cruising at the time.
Yes 10 times yes 💯 times yes and 1000 times yes, 2-0 up, half-time , substitute him and assess him next day. It’s a no brainer
He got a-knock on left and got treated on right knee. Look at first ball Timber received after treatment in the first half. He paused for a few seconds and passed with his left, very tentatively. Shouldn’t have restated after the break
give it a rest, you’re a no brainer.
How many arsenal players have been out for the major part of the season since MA came in?
It is a very convient thing to blame the medical staff. Nothing is ever 100%. I don’t think it is possible that a club as big and as prestigious as Arsenal would hire incompetent medical team. Or even that the team medical staff would intentionally put a players career in jeopardy.
It only hurts because we like Timber and much was expected of him. Had it been Holding on the other hand…
Rob Holding did is ACL in December 18, it was a stron challenge. He came back next season September
Yes the medical team should’ve had the same view right? He’s an important signing. Let him rest rather than forcing himself to play while carrying a knock.
Yup. Bad call to put him back out. Obviously (massively) worsened by the subsequent injury. Anyway you look at this – if he was brought off, he would not have tore his ACL.
Gutted for him, he’s been a standout for me pre season.
The Carpet?
Surprised he knows. Man did his research. Impressed 👏
Emirates Stadium, the home of Arsenal FC, nicknamed The Carpet due to its famous playing surface.
yep… which makes it all the more bewildering that our pitch was apparently a little sketchy for the Forest game
Red carpet after we win the league?
Medical team should have got a bollocking for allowing him back out for 2nd half. Madness.
Towards the end of the 1st half. He looked abit off pace with his passing. There was something wrong there. Could it be he felt something but just kept going?
Very good all round game so he should come back strong. Quick recovery 🙏
Our fucking luck with injuries never ever changes.
Damnit! He was really looking the part.
The way he went into the tackle was already not great (head-on collission). Damage already done perhaps, regardless of he came in or not after the break.
Comforting to know the backup aren’t that shabby.
Hope you will come back stronger Timber!
Very unfortunate. He was definitely the most intriguing new addition to the team, bringing a lot of versatility and options to Arsenal’s gameplans. Hopefully he’ll be fit and ready to go for the Champions League Final!
Gutted for the fella.
He’ll be like the ultimate LANS when he comes back though.
Just have to wish him the best with a full recovery, and hope we can see him back on the pitch this season, kicking ass and taking names.
Gutted… but Timber will come back Ruud van Nistelrooy & become a club legend, ACL’s happened to Shearer at Blackburn, Van Nistelrooy before his move to united and Roberto Baggio very early in his career.
Wow, we really are back, aren’t we?
Onward and upward.
Besides the physical challenge of returning, I hope they look carefully after his happiness and integration with the team socially.
It’s lonely as it is to be away from practice and everyone (great article from NY Times on Gundogan a few years ago “The Lonely Road Back From a Very Public Injury”). Must be even more true for someone who has just moved to a new city/country and started to get to know his teammates.
Please look after him & hope he comes back stronger whenever it is…
Hope this means Gabriel will stay for another season now.
