While there was no Arsenal involvement in the final day of the group stages at the Women’s World Cup, there was yet another shock as Germany’s 1-1 draw with South Korea saw the Germans tumble out of the tournament at the group stage for the first ever time.
Morocco beat Colombia 1-0 in the other game meaning both teams go through to the knockout rounds, which have now been finalised. Of the Arsenal players who took part in the group stages, Canada’s Cloe Lacasse and Sabrina D’Angelo and Ireland’s Katie McCabe are on their way home. The other 12 players live to fight another day at the tournament.
Arsenal are the top scoring club in the World Cup group stages with eight goals- Amanda Ilestedt (3), Steph Catley (2), Katie McCabe (1), Stina Blackstenius (1), Alessia Russo (1). Let’s have a look at the round of 16 confirmed ties with the Arsenal players- all kickoff times are given UK time:
Saturday, 5 August, 6am, Auckland
Switzerland (Lia Walti, Noelle Maritz) v Spain
Saturday, 5 August, 9am, Wellington

That is a very tasty looking set of fixtures.
I like seeing upsets; it shows the games are more competitive now, and the likes of Germany and Brazil no longer cruise through on past glories.
Australia vs Denmark will kick-off at 11:30am.
