Arsenal have confirmed that Alex Runarsson will spend the year on loan with Championship side Cardiff City.
The Iceland international, 28, heads out for a third loan move in quick succession having previously spent time with OH Leuven in Belgium and Alyanspor in Turkey.
Runarsson has six Arsenal appearances to his name since joining the club from Ligue 1 side Dijon in 2021.

Upon signing for the Bluebirds, Alex said: “I’m very happy to get the deal over the line. It took some time, but I’m pleased to be here. The Club made contact with my agent and said that they wanted to sign me, I know it’s a big club and it sparked my interest right away.
“I’m really excited to play in front of the fans. Seeing the stadium, I can feel the atmosphere in the air, so I’m looking forward playing in front of fans. When I signed for Arsenal, it was during Covid, so I didn’t get to experience British football with the fans, so I’m excited to play in that atmosphere.”
Best of luck to Alex in Wales.
I just think he couldn’t see a pathway to the number 1 jersey, given he was behind Ramsdale and Raya, Okonkwo, Hein, Turner. And Almunia. Poom. Viviano. And Bob Wilson. And every other goalkeeper we have signed in our 136 year history.
Yeah. Tough time to be an Arsenal GK. Just no pathway. What ya gunna do?
Be exceptional.
In a way he was.
And exceptionally bad signing.
I read somewhere this was the last year of his contract so this is effectively him done. Is that right?
Right up there with Kim Kallstrom for the weirdest signing ever.
Park Chu-Young?
His goal against Bolton was a fine finish. Always thought it was worth giving him a run in the first team
He’s still playing at 38. Solid
Good luck Alex! Make Cardiff cough up the cash for a permanent deal!
How many years was he contracted for?
Feels like we gave him tenure…
I think he’s out of contract when this loan finishes so he’s effectively gone. A very strange/poor signing indeed.
Bye bye Plug.
Give my regards to Bash Street.
Nice experience for him. He played for Arsenal.
Yep. I’d be proud to be the worst goalkeeper in Arsenal’s history, as long as it meant I had at one time played for Arsenal.
Exactly – 👍
