Reflecting on the draw and a return to Europe’s top table after a six year hiatus, Sporting Director Edu told Arsenal.com: “They are very traditional, strong teams. To be in that competition you cannot choose the teams you are going to play against.
“All of them are very hard to play against, so we’re here, happy to be in the competition again, and that’s the most important thing for the club.
“It’s the most important thing for the players, the staff, for everyone. Now, let’s enjoy the competition and see how we can behave in it.
“The fans and the club really deserve that because we are working so hard to come back to that situation.
It’s a big bonus from the last season. The way we behave as a club, the way the players, the staff, everyone works to be back in the Champions League, it’s a big bonus now. I’m pretty sure the fans will enjoy the competition. Everyone deserves it and let’s enjoy it again.”
Not an exciting group exactly, let’s just hope Arteta doesn’t pick a Europa League 11 against them. We need to lay down a marker.
For a team that did not at any point in the past seven years show that they were a cut above the Europa League, this is an exciting enough group. We should progress but nothing should be taken for granted.
Did you watch us play PSV away last season? Sevilla is also never weak in European competition….Our fan base is cocky already…trust me,nothing is guaranteed…
Absolutely agree with you. There are no easy games and we are among the best three in this group.
I watched both games last season. We won the home game 1-0 and the away game we lost (2-0) We started with Holding, KT, Lakonga, Viera and Xhaka – we are stronger this season and will start a much stronger team while they have lost Gakpo and X.Simons. If we can’t get out of this group with our £1.11 billion pound squad, the manager should fired! -All 3 of the other teams have a combined total value of less than £600 million. Stop making excuses. You need between 10-12 points to get out of the group stages. We don’t even… Read more »
No excitement please! I don’t want an exciting group. Just get through da ting!
Mate, just be grateful we’re back in this competition again.
And having an ‘easier’ group (on paper at least) is clearly beneficial to a new squad finding its feet.
So happy to in UCL again! It’ll great for the players, especially the Hale End boys who were probably 15/16 the last time we were in it.
Spu*s after game week 1
Man City after game week 2
Chelsea before game week 3
Newcastle before game week 4
Easier game week 5
Brighton after game week 6
Thank god for the easy group!
This is not an easy group by any means. In fact it the only group that features teams who are almost equally matched. We will need to be at our best to get out of this group.
I agree..teams we could beat home and away but could also do the same to us if we’re careless….The french team too won’t be a pushover
Stop talking sh*t, Arsenal are far better than these teams.
“Team Chance of winning the Champions League
Manchester City 33%
Bayern Munich 15%
Real Madrid 11%
Arsenal 10%
Barcelona 7%
PSG 6%
Manchester United 5%
Newcastle United 4%”
They are not at Arsenal’s level – every metric backs this up. They would NOT be finishing in a Champions League position if they played in the prem. We literally have the easiest group. Despite being in pot 2 we are the favorites to top the group.
My virgin media deal ran out, TNT sports is another £18 a month. What a drag
Thank you Joe Cole for the kind draw. I’ve always had a soft spot for him since watching his debut for West Ham. Wanted him to play for us but it wasn’t meant to be.
The road to our first champions league crown begins
I’m just thankful that we’re back in this competition again.
No Mustafi = Title Challenge + Champions League. It’s taken six to seven years, but we’ve finally cracked them both.
