Katie McCabe speaks to Arseblog News after match winning brace over Bristol

Arsenal Women were 2-1 victors over Bristol City thanks to a brace from Katie McCabe. McCabe spoke to Arseblog News after the game.

On scoring two goals from the second phase of setpieces…
We’ve got a lot of players who are really, really good on dead ball situations. Steph (Catley), Frida (Maanum), Vic (Pelova), we’ve got Beth (Mead) back now so there is a fight to take corners and free-kicks! But whatever role I am given and whatever I am asked to do in the team, I give it 100%. The last few games I have hung around the edge of the box with Kim (Little) to manage those counters and pick up any seconds, I am happy they fell into my path tonight and I was able to help the team.

On scoring the winner on her right foot…
I was just glad I kept it under the bar, usually those go out the ground on my swinger. I missed a sitter a couple of minutes before that, a brilliant block from Megan Connolly on the line, so I was happy to put that right.

On what Jonas said at half-time…
Real credit to Bristol, it was a really difficult game for them last week conceding five against Manchester City. They came off the back of a heavy defeat, they were playing at Ashton Gate and their fans were incredible tonight. They showed real defensive discipline, it’s a difficult thing to do, I have played in a back five before. They frustrated us at times, the message at half-time was to stay composed, make sure we continue to position well, to have options on the ball and the chances will come. I think the possession was about 80-20 today which shows how much we dominated, especially in that second half. But when they get that one chance, we need to be better in those moments too.

On Miedema returning from injury…
It was so good. Within a week to have Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema back gives the team and the club such a massive lift. They are special players, they have shown that over a number of years. We’re just so happy to have them both back. For Viv to have her moment, the reception she got from our incredible travelling fans, was really special. I said to her right at the end, I thought it was going to be a Miedema special with Viv putting Beth in. I thought it was written in the stars, I was getting ready to celebrate! I’m sure we’ll see those combos in the coming weeks as they build that momentum and build their minutes.

Another dreadful performance.. we need to start finishing matches like this before 20 minutes on , in order to give game time for the benchwarmers, the manager needs to go.., give the legend Kelly Smith a chance.

And i no longer only wanna see jonas eidevall sacked, i wanna see him in JAIL as well. He’s a fraud. 🤨

Well, that escalated quickly

I said about the same thing in the beginning of last season. JE lacks the tactical awarenesses needed for the WSL. Ordinarily charisma would be a good alternative to help bluff through but he lacks that too. Early success in his stint was a momentum thing from the Monte era but as he saturates his team with his own players the momentum becomes nullified. That’s what we’re witnessing now and unless he gets the boot before the rot sets in too far, we’ll soon find ourself in relegation scraps. He’s turned a really successful outfit into a version of the… Read more »

“A momentum thing from the Monte era” – yeah, the last two seasons under Joe were peak Arsenal, right? All that silverware, titles etc.

I wish you would change the record. Jonas this, Jonas that, Jonas out after every match is pretty tiresome. We won that match against an 11 person defence, most teams would have struggled. And it might have been 2:1 but it was the most comfortable and one-sided 2:1 you will ever see!

If this is so bad why don’t you do something else with your weekends to keep your blood pressure down?

I thought Gary was a City fan now. Seem to recall him saying as much last week yet here he was spending his Sunday evening watching the girls

It’s annoying to read such a great interview from such a great player regarding a good win that had THAT pass from Miedema to Mead only to have some cranky dicks manage make all the comments about themselves. Only a fool would engage with such negative twattery as it only feeds their eg….oh, wait a second…

Well lm not in the ‘jonas out’ camp and l think those that are over simplify the problems we have…… and no doubt couldn’t do a better job themselves. As lve said before we are no longer in an Arsenal win everything situation. the game’s got a lot more serious competition in it now. He will come good, l feel sure
