Katie McCabe will start at right-back for Arsenal with Noelle Maritz only fit enough for the bench as Liverpool Women visit Emirates Stadium for today’s WSL opener, while Lotte Wubben-Moy and Jen Beattie team up in central defence. Steph Catley completes the defence with Manu Zinsberger in goal.
The usual midfield trio of Lia Walti, Kim Little and Frida Maanum line-up with Caitlin Foord and Cloé Lacasse are either side of Alessia Russo upfront. Russo and Lacasse make their first WSL starts for the club.
Fellow summer signings Laia Codina, Amanda Ilestedt and Kyra Cooney-Cross are on the bench. Beth Mead is not in the match day squad and will wait a little longer for her return from her ACL injury.

Spot on the guy is a poor coach. He seems however to avoid criticism across all Arsenal media (including tim stillman on this site) and the main sports channels.
He has taken the team backwards in my view, not only in terms of really challenging for the league in particular but also the style of play. It’s like watching a run of the mill pragmatic scandinavian men or women’s team.
Eidevall talks a good game, but that’s it. Moving Miedema from CF was/is just plain stupid.
Not sure how you come to that conclusion? He made good subs pretty early, the team should have won this match easily.

What a joke. Three at the back with a wide forward playing wing back. Experiment did not work. We were so narrow with no real support for Russo. One of the worst performances from the women’s team I have seen.
Have to agree. Caitlin Foord has actually played RB as well. We needed Lacasse further forward,slaloming into the box.
Horrible start to the campaign after so much excitement for the new season. One loss is one loss but to start like that in this league it basically feels like game over as Chelsea / City drop so few points. Hyperbole yes but look at the last few seasons tables and tell me I’m wrong.
