Since the start of last season Seb Ferdinand has been one of the standout players for Arsenal U18s in the league, with the winger often playing a key part for Jack Wilshere’s team.
Ferdinand received a fleeting taste of U21 football last season, while he has also been involved in the UEFA Youth League with the U19s in the early stages of this campaign.
This week, however, Ferdinand took a significant step forward in his career as he featured in the EFL Trophy for the first time.
The 17-year-old featured as a substitute against Exeter and provided an indication of his quality with two goals and an assist in a 5-0 victory for Arsenal.
After making a major impact for the U21s, Ferdinand will now be hopeful of further opportunities at that level.
There is much competition for places in the U21s, with Mehmet Ali able to call upon players such as Amario Cozier-Duberry and Charles Sagoe Jr. However, Ferdinand is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore and could soon at least get on the bench for the U21s in the league.
In addition to his attacking attributes, Ferdinand is also known for making a significant contribution defensively as he tracks back well.
As things stand the youngster is progressing well in his quest to earn a professional contract.

Any relation to Les/Rio?
GG wanted to sign Les
Think we ended signing hartson
I don’t believe so.
Or the Archduke Franz even?
It’s so crazy to think that these boys are the 0.01% to even be at the academy.
Then they have to navigate u16’s, u18’s, u21’s and u23’s to get a professional contract. Probably 1 in 50 of their peers get there. Maybe less.
Then they have to break into a team of 11 professionals from a squad of around 30.
Reminds me that when people say “Eddie is shit” they simply have no fucking clue.
Yeah it’s amazing how few of them will make it. All of them are elite in their own way but only a handful have that bit extra.
On Eddie, personally I don’t believe for a minute that he’s shit, he’s a fantastic player, but it’s undeniable that we’re less effective when he plays. It’s harsh, but it’s true.
Well said!
