Arsenal return to back three for visit of Manchester City Women

Amanda Ilestedt and Cloe Lacasse come into the starting line-up for Arsenal against Manchester City at Meadow Park. It is difficult to read what the formation might be but Manu Zinsberger starts in goal, that is for sure.

My best guess is that Amanda Ilestedt, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Steph Catley will play at centre-half with Cloe Lacasse and Katie McCabe at wing-back. Kim Little and Lia Walti will be the usual midfield double pivot.

Victoria Pelova and Caitlin Foord could well play as dual 10s behind Alessia Russo upfront. Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema are both on the bench. Laia Codina is not in the squad.

1.Zinsberger; 28.Ilestedt, 3.Wubben-Moy, 7.Catley; 24.Lacasse, 10.Little(c), 13.Walti, 15.McCabe; 21.Pelova, 19.Foord; 23.Russo.

Subs: 5.Beattie, 9.Mead, 11.Miedema, 12.Maanum, 14.D’Angelo, 16.Maritz, 17.Hurtig, 25.Blackstenius, 32.Cooney-Cross.

P.D.

Pelova & Katie at wing back maybe ?

Looks like a 4-3-3 with Katie at RB. I know she can ‘play anywhere’ but it’s odd.

I think we need to have the discussion about taking Kim off penalties…

I think her penalty conversion record is pretty good, but I agree, I’ve never felt they were often top-class penalties when I’ve watched them.

Kim has scored 18 out of 22 penalties for Arsenal in the WSL according to the BBC commentators, and frankly many of them have been sublime. This consistency & reliability was reiterated by Alex Scott, Fara Williams & Ellen White in the half-time analysis. It is nonsensical to even consider anyone else taking our penalties.

She has missed 2 already this season, so regardless of past record, it’s not nonsensical to discuss it.

Thank you for seeing what I meant, she’s generally reliable but back to back misses isn’t normally her. We’ve missed our last 4 haven’t we? Katie also missed 2 towards the end of the season if I remember correctly

I think today’s “miss” has to go down as a good save by their keeper. Nothing really wrong with the kick, low to the ground towards the back corner of the goal. If it had been 6 inches further to the right she would have scored but 9 times out of 10 that would have been good enough to go in. So if not Kim, who? As mentioned here, Katie has missed a couple, Lessi missed her’s in the Paris FC shoot-out, neither Stina nor Meado are regular takers, Steph? Kim’s stats are still pretty good but today she came… Read more »
