Arsenal U21s brought the first half of their season to an end on Monday night with a 2-1 win away to Sunderland.
It was an encouraging performance from Mehmet Ali’s side, who worked very hard off the ball and managed to come from behind to win, with Khayon Edwards scoring a brace.
There has been some frustration in the EFL Trophy this season, with Arsenal again being eliminated at the second round stage, this time by Peterborough United.
However, in the league Arsenal have been largely impressive, with Ali’s team currently fourth in the 26-team division.
It seems likely that the U21 squad could be broken up somewhat in the January transfer window as a significant amount of players are in need of loan spells to further their development.
The likes of Edwards, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Charles Sagoe Jr and Lino Sousa all fall into that category and it will be intriguing to see which players head elsewhere.
Cozier-Duberry was very lively against Sunderland, especially in the first half, and there seems little point in him playing youth football for much longer.
Reuell Walters could also benefit from a loan spell but it is possible that he may need to remain at Arsenal to provide defensive cover.
Arsenal U21s aren’t in action again until January 12th when they host Middlesbrough, who are currently one place below them.

I always think its a photo of Pires
I was about to say it’s time to use another photo. After all, it’s a long time Mehmet is in that position!
Very nice performance overall but no one is yet sticking out as an exceptional talent. Of course this could quickly change once some get a chance to play on loan.
