Arsenal draw Manchester City at home in Women’s FA Cup 5th Round

Arsenal have drawn at home to Manchester City in the 5th Round of the Women’s FA Cup, with the tie set to be played on Sunday, 11 February at Meadow Park.

The Gunners progressed after a comfortable 5-1 win at home to Watford on Sunday. Arsenal are the record holders of the cup by some distance with 14 FA Cup triumphs but they have not won the tournament since 2016 when they beat Chelsea at Wembley.

The clubs last met in the competition in 2020 as Arsenal were beaten 2-1 away at City in the semi-finals. Arsenal have a strong record against City at Meadow Park, proving victorious in their last four meetings with Gareth Taylor’s side at Boreham Wood.

Every other tie is WSL team against lower division team

13% chance of Drawing Chelsea or Man City….

Of course…

chig

I was expecting Chelsea again this year so at least City feels slightly surprising.

Fun Gunner

It’s too early for both clubs.

looking forward to the game preview from this website in order to get some insights of this clash. hoping we play a good game against City… I don’t know whether I should really hold hope of wining or not :'(

No fear of anybody……particularly at fortress Meadow Park!🙌.

We’ve got a good record against City there, so I’d be confident. I think the smaller pitch helps limit their wide players a bit more. And as Tim as said elsewhere, City’s front 3 is devastating but they don’t have many alternative gameplans.

We usually do well in this fixture. What’s annoying me is that if we had faced another non-WSL opponent, we would have had another opportunity for players like KCC or Codina to start a game. Against Man City, JE won’t be able to do that.

Home advantage is a big plus, though our defenders must be on top form to counter City’s attack force. We also need Kim on the pitch to minimise the effectiveness of Jill Roord. 3:1 Arsenal!

A Different George

Take a very good though not dominant team. Add Beth Mead. Then add Viv Miedema. Then Leah Williamson. Barca level.

Michael

Not the end of the world. We have a good record against them and are easily good enough to win again. COYG!
