Arsenal Women’s Brazilian winger Gio will join Liga F side Madrid CFF (not to be confused with Real Madrid) on loan for the remainder of the season. Gio joined the Gunners in the summer of 2022 from Barcelona and was immediately loaned to Everton.
However, a hip injury blighted her spell on Merseyside before she was recalled last January to help ease Arsenal’s attacking injury crisis. The 20-year-old has not been able to establish herself with the Gunners yet and was not registered for the 25-strong squad this season after summer loan moves to Spurs and Atletico Madrid fell through.
Now Gio will hook up with the team where she played as a teenager for the remainder of the season.
The loan exit of the Brazilian likely concludes Arsenal’s January transfer dealings with Kathrine Kuhl joining Everton on loan, Noelle Maritz joining Aston Villa permanently and Emily Fox signing from North Carolina Courage.
As Arseblog News exclusively revealed earlier this month, veteran French goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi is set to come in on a short term deal in February and March when Sabrina D’Angelo is likely to be away at the Gold Cup with Canada. Bouhaddi is currently a free agent and can therefore be signed outside the January window.
Play well, come back better
Hopefully she will come back to us to kick-start her Gooner career.
Great news! Good luck to her and fingers crossed no injuries.
