Tierney suffers second hamstring injury, Tavares keen on Marseille

Kieran Tierney is set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering a second hamstring injury of the season.

The Scotland international felt something go in his left hamstring during the first half of Real Sociedad’s Copa del Rey quarter-final victory at Celta Vigo and had to be substituted.

While the seriousness of the injury is yet to be fully established the update from head coach Imanol Alguacil didn’t sound particularly positive.

“We are going to wait for the relevant tests to be done, but it is clear that it is a hamstring rupture,” he told Estadio Deportivo.

Despite the imminent arrival of Javi Galan from Atletico Madrid, Alguacil says Tierney’s latest setback causes him a headache.

“It’s a shame, because with [left-back] Aihen [Munoz] out, even if Javi Galan comes, it is important to double up in positions with the games we are going to have to play.”

Tierney has played 10 consecutive games for Sociedad since returning from a hamstring tear that ruled him out for two months. A total of 789 minutes since 2 December.

For a player who didn’t see a huge amount of action at Arsenal in the last couple of years, that’s a lot of football and you can’t help but wonder if an overload of minutes may have contributed to the new injury. Hopefully, it’s not as bad as it sounds.

Elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano reports that Nuno Tavares remains a target for Marseille. We reported the link the other day but it’s since come to light that the Ligue 1 side is looking at a permanent deal.

The Gunners would require Nottingham Forest to agree to a termination of his loan deal as they didn’t include a January break clause in the current arrangement.

RMC claim the Portugal under-21 international is keen on a return to the Stade Velodrome having made 39 appearances for l’OM last season.

Ah man, KT could have been an Arsenal legend if it wasn’t for the injuries, incredible player. Wish him well in his recovery.

Johnny 4 Hats

Mad to think that only 6 months ago we thought we’d get £40m for him.

After an injury hit loan spell, he’ll probably worth about £10m.

I predict a hasty return to Celtic next season for a fraction of the price we paid.

Dada

Anyone know his injuty record for Celtics? He seemly awfully brittle.

RamsdalemyHero

Is it really unfortunate that Edu usually buys crocked players or something else? #InvestigateEdu

Alex

Something else

Johnny 4 Hats

Edu has signed 32 Arsenal players.

Can you name the 17 that are “crocked” which would prove your statement to be true?

Or are you just bitter that the player you simp over got replaced?

RamsdalemyHero

He got replaced because of a scam, & the fact that he is English.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Are you I’ve got no hair in disguise? Raya’s long throw on Sunday 😘

Dada

I’m reporting this to FactCheck.

El Mintero

Simp?

Stonks

Hmmmm… I thought the weather in Scotland of Spain would do him good. Seems like even the sun is not enough

Eric Blair

Too many nice chocolates in Euskadi perhaps?

Okey

I hear a lot of fans giving Arteta the stick for not playing KT enough. I tell you that Arteta was simply managing his minutes. He is too Injury prone and that’s a shame because he is a decent player.

El Mintero

He’s not anymore injury prone than Partey, Jesus, Tomi and Zinchenko…

Matthinc

Partey had almost never had an injury layoff in his career before he joined arsenal. Check his record at Athletico. Weird. Aging I guess.

Hurensohn

Not sure the overloaded with minutes suggestion stands up tonhis injury history. Unfortunately, the lad gets injuries consistently whether he’s playing regularly or not. Hope he’s back soon because he’s the sort of player fans love to watch.

Doghouse

A good guy, total pro but was sent on loan for a reason, unfortunate with injuries again, can’t see him playing again in an arsenal shirt, as he’s still got 2 years contract after this season he’s likely to go on loan again with either a lower PL side or a championship team coming into PL, good luck to him..

Matthinc

Hopefully a sale
