Confirmed: Marquinhos joins Fluminense on loan

Arsenal have confirmed that Brazilian winger Marquinhos has Fluminense joined on loan.

The 20-year-old winger returns to his homeland after spending the first half of the campaign with Nantes. If everything goes well in Rio, he could make the move on a permanent basis with Flu negotiating an option to buy.

Marquinhos’ seven games in France came hot on the heels of 11 appearances for Norwich between January and May, but it’s probably fair to say, neither of his spells away from the Emirates have been enough to persuade the Gunners that he’s ready to challenge for regular football under Mikel Arteta.

Bought as “one for the future” it looks like the clock is now ticking on his Arsenal career.

Marquinhos had hoped that his selection by Brazil for the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament would serve as a timely confidence boost but he mostly featured as a substitute as the reigning gold medal winners failed to qualify for Paris 2024.

It’s a swing and a miss, happens. Not everyone can be Martinelli.

I didn’t get a chance to comment on the west ham game. What I thought we did brilliantly was to shut down their sideline game. What I mean by that is that they make a living out of forming little triangles around the halfway line, and then one of the three that is unmarked will make a run behind the defensive line, hugging the sideline and they will try to play a through ball to that runner. Then the others all bomb the box waiting for the delivery. That’s how they scored their opener at the Emirates, though it took… Read more »

Also, I noticed how me managed them to not time waste. We spent a huge amount time hogging the ball that without it the couldn’t waste any which forced them to run Round chasing it, thereby exhausting themselves.

Hope being home is the springboard that he needs to have at least a career outside Arsenal.

If he can get regular game time there it would be great, but ideally you want him on loan with plenty of minutes in England/Europe. Surely he is good enough to play for the bottom 3 in the Premier League, or the top 12 teams in the championship. Not sure what went wrong at Norwich or Nantes.

I thought the games he played he looked promising… I obviously know shit.

Always nice to see your signing turning up with their own pen for the obligatory photo…

yes

Hopefully Fluminense’s right-back is ready to receive a lot of safe passes to feet.

jk good luck to him though

He looked solid on his Europa League debut but clearly Mikel Arteta doesn’t think he is of the calibre we need at this point in time. They don’t all work out and hopefully we can recoup some of what we spent on him. I’m assuming Reiss Nelson will also be on the market in the summer, hopefully we can put some of that towards bringing in another top forward.
