Confirmed: Miguel Azeez leaves Arsenal for Atletico Baleares

Miguel Azeez’s 16-year stay at Arsenal is over after the club agreed to sell him to Spanish third-tier side Atletico Baleares.

The midfielder, 21, was seen as a genuine first team contender when he came through the ranks but a series of underwhelming loan moves in the last couple of years have highlighted just how big the jump is from youth to senior football.

Azeez made one competitive appearance for the senior side, a seven-minute cameo at the end of a Europa League win against Irish side Dundalk in 2020. He was also included on the bench on several occasions in the same season before spending time with Portsmouth, Ibiza and Wigan.

It feels like this season has been a bit of a waste. Having not moved last summer, he’s been kicking around at London Colney with Mehmet Ali selecting him just three times for the under-21s. At the same time, prospects four years his junior have been included in Arteta’s matchday squads.

We’re not entirely sure if anything in particular has happened to stunt his development – injuries, motivation etc. – we just hope he finds what he’s looking for at his new club.

Atletico Baleares play their football in Spain’s third tier.

I didn’t know we had a professional model in our ranks.

Grymelock

Lad should never have cut his hair 😢

Me2

There was a real hope that he would make it but I imagined he would end up in the Championship but this?
He would probably be better of looking for another career path..

mc1892

Yeah, moving to Palma and playing football on a no-doubt still exorbitant (compared to most ‘regular’ people) sounds utterly horrendous.

mc1892

no-doubt still exorbitant wage*

Torterrier

Really a shame to see, best of luck to him. Hope he can bring his career back to life

We will never get to sing
‘Azeez is good
Azeez is good
Miguel Azeez is good’

ClockEnder

This is the most devastating part of this story for sure.

ClockEnder

He was hyped up as a Hale Ender… but that 7 minute cameo stood out. He looked the real deal.

Wish him all the best.

It’s so bizarre to me that Arsenal apparently has 5 year olds on the books

“Miguel Azeez’s 16-year stay at Arsenal is over…The midfielder, 21”

Gus

The dream is over

Spanish Gooner

Not my place to say whether or not Azeez had other distractions from football, but it will always make me laugh that his loan move to Wigan was leaked by him following every girl under 25 in the Wigan area on instagram overnight.
