Alex Runarsson has joined FC Copenhagen in a permanent deal after Cardiff City agreed to end his season-long loan early allowing Arsenal to terminate his contract with six months remaining.
The Iceland international, 28, made 14 appearances for the Bluebirds but hasn’t been on the pitch since mid-December.
Signed from Dijon in 2020 on the recommendation of goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana, Runarsson provided backup to Bernd Leno for six months but fell down the Arsenal keeper pecking order when Mat Ryan arrived on loan. He has subsequently spent time with Belgian side OH Leuven and Turkish outfit Alanyaspor.

A move to the Danish capital, even as cover for Kamil Grabara, looks like a decent move in the circumstances. Copenhagen are still in the Champions League and face Manchester City at the Parken Stadium in a couple of weeks. We won’t mention the last time Runarsson faced Pep’s side. It, erm, didn’t go well.
Anyway, best of luck to Alex. It’s quite something to be able to say you played for Arsenal even if it was only a handful of times.
Do the same for Cedric. It is so frustrating how Cedric is earning a big living at Arsenal for just training and celebrating team members’ goals
But he celebrates them SO enthusiastically! It’s like having an Irish Setter or a Golden Retriever on the team!
The decision not to do the deadline day live blog has backfired spectacularly
Even Ornstein didn’t see this coming. Shocker.
One of our most bizarre signings. All accounts appeared to suggest it wouldn’t work out given he lost the number 1 spot at Dijon before coming to us. He just didn’t cut the mustard.
Good luck to him in Copenhagen.
Well played, though I’d expect nothing less from a panini sandwich magician.
Gutted 😩
Isn’t Runnarson tired of running around in search for a new club?
He’s a runner, son. Innit?
I kind of felt sorry for him. Those anti-Wenger tweets made him start with negative reputation at the club, and he never managed to impress.
Something something something something opportunity slipped through his hands
He was a WOB anyways. Good riddance.
Fully expect him to inflict totally accidental career-ending injuries on KDB and Haaland in the CL round of 16. From the bench. Once a Gooner…
Strange signing for us. He never looked like he knew what he was doing.
