Arsenal are in Champions League action this evening, going into the quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich after a 2-2 draw in the first game.

I must admit, I’m a bit concerned about Jorgs starting here (if only Partey was fit and match fit). Same midfield from Bayern – they are inviting as on… Jorgs is not an ideal player in an open game. Personally, assuming Partey isn’t considered I would have gone for solidity over creativity and started Jesus up top and Havertz at #8, Rice #6.
Tomi is the right call at LB…

I think the plan to improve the midfield is that Tomi will stay at home more than Zinchecnko, so the midfield won’t need to cover for an inverting left back and can position further up the field than last time.
Kiwior started last game (until Zinny came on and played a good game btw).
He did nothing in attack though. Slowed everything down running into the middle and dawdling on the ball looking for the Hollywood pass.
Interesting (and effective) tactic from Mikel so far in that Jorgs is playing #8 and Rice predominantly #6… We look safer with Rice at the base.

Not going to happen. I hope we make it but we are the underdogs. Last week, their players showed a higher technical level, their game plan was calm and focused and above everything else they seemed a lot fresher and faster than us. It will be very very hard.

Bit concerned about jorgs at #6 against the same Bayern midfield (middle block) and counter attacking approach. He’s great against teams trying to control the tempo and possession, but he’s a liability against direct, counter attacking football and that looks like the Bayern approach again considering their line-up. I really hope we’re not playing into their hands…

I hope the villa game (second half) was a blip, tonight is the best way to prove it was!!!
I actually think the second half fatigue was down to the emotional hangover of our first champions league quarter final in many years. COYG
Glad that with so much riding on this game beyond the UCL, sense prevails at last – Don’t fix what’s not broken. That said, I’m confident that we can beat Bayern. COYG!

Our boys were excellent in the first half. Played like real champions. Very proud of them.

We did actually play well, that’s kind of what hurts the most. We can’t seem to sustain it across two halves, can’t get the ball in the net when we do play well, and always get punished for an error or two eventually. Which is also a microcosm of our whole season in a nutshell, and the last one too. It’s why I had to stop watching football for a few years, just such a frustrating experience when it’s like this.
It was the hope that killed! We’re drawing next game at best. Back to pre december form. Same as last year in the final run.
