Arsenal confirm exit of 22 players, talks ongoing with three

Arsenal have confirmed that 22 players from across the men’s and women’s first teams and the academy will be released when their contracts end on 30 June.

The most high-profile departures – Mohamed Elneny, Cedric Soares and Viv Miedema – have all said their goodbyes in recent weeks, so there’s nothing surprising on that front. It’ll be interesting to see where they end up.

As for the other names on the list, some have been at the club for a long time and a few, including Tyreece John-Jules, even flirted with a first team breakthrough. Their exits will undoubtedly be emotional.

Interestingly, the club have confirmed that talks remain ongoing with three other prospects – Reuell Walters, Amario Cozier-Duberry and Karl Hein.

We actually thought Hein was contracted for another 12 months so it’s surprising to hear the Estonian could leave. All the more so when you consider Arthur Okonkwo and James Hillson will be free agents and Aaron Ramsdale is expected to be sold.

As for Walters and Cozier-Duberry; the former has already said farewell on social media while the latter is said to be wanted by a host of clubs, including Newcastle. We may have our work cut out persuading him to stay given he has Bukayo Saka ahead of him in the pecking order.

Cozier-Duberry would be a shame, looked like a good prospect, but the consequences of Arsenal being at such a high level now is that the youngens have to be very very special to break through to the first team.
Nwaneri is the one I feel can get to that level.

I feel like I saw a lot of ACDC’s (Amario Cozier Duberry Compilations) about 18 months ago. But not loads recently. Maybe he has fallen away a little bit performance wise.

But if you look at Omari Hutchinson at Chelsea, he’s had a fantastic season in the championship and is now probably a £10-15m player. I’d be tempted to give ACD a good contract and find a suitable loan club in the hope we could extract some value next summer.

Johnny 4 Hats

Actually just seen that Omari could potentially be sold for £20m this summer and we have a 50% sell on clause. So that’s actually pretty damn smart.

Well played Edu.

David Hillier's luggage

Could see Chelsea’s lawyers finding a loophole to screw us over on this one still. £19m ‘loan’ fee with obligation to buy in the summer for £1m should he play 3 matches, or something equally shady.

You could well be right. After the Torreira and Fiorentina saga, these contracts clearly aren’t as watertight as we might like.

It’s not easy being an honest club in the modern footballing world.

I am surprised to read this. I thought Hutchinson left as a free agent at the end of his contract.

Johnny 4 Hats

I thought so too. But I think we actually extracted a small fee from Chelsea with a sizeable sell on clause.

The Chelsea propaganda machine is full of lies. Omari was fine at Ipswich. He is not a 20 million player. They just want him to be

Nacho de Montreal is tasty

If he improves and matures well, why would you sell him?

One of the main reasons is the high salary that these young players earn. Handling such substantial incomes at a young age requires exceptional parenting. Saka, for instance, should be grateful to his parents for guiding him to stay grounded.

Good luck to all the boys leaving!

Really hope they find clubs and have great careers.

A constant reminder that the standard is just so high. These lads are the 0.001%. And even that isn’t quite good enough to have a career at the Arsenal.

And yes, that makes Saka the 0.00000001%.

“Good luck to all the boys leaving!”
not to the girls?

Heavenly Chapecoense

I am sure there is no bad intention there.
Yourself, why did you forget the trans?
Boys, sorry for those I forgot.

Tony Modra

As a Red Dwarf fan, particularly sad to see TJJ go. His movement is nice, his finishing is nice… he’s just nice, period!

Eric Blair

Owwwwwww!

Johnny 4 Hats

Well, he’s been on the transfer Lister for a while…

Eurgh. That was painful.

Death by 300,000 Passes

Not only Hein, Okonkwo and Hillison, but the Great Goalkeeper Exodus also includes Ovie Ejeheri, Noah Cooper and Hubert Graczyk. And apart from John-Jules, there are couple of other names that also make impression. Catalin Cirjan made 4 Europa League benches last season and I expected after a loan this season to be again in consideration, but obviously it wasn’t meant to be. Mauro Bandeira has 4 benches in the Premier League. 2 last season and 2 this season (vs West Hap 0:6 and vs Burnley 5:0, therefore nobody noticed him) and I remember some talks about being in connection… Read more »

One beat off

Does anyone see Saka moving inside eventually? He is very strong with both feet, intelligent and tough. I believe m. Wenger started players outside to gain experience without the pressure only to move them inside.

Excited

On manager career mode in FC24, I managed the Arsenal and tried to sell some of our academy talents to make space for the “critical” talent that were one of the career objectives for the season. En route to winning a quadruple, I gave Mauro Bandeira quite a bit of game time and he even scored a hatful of goals in Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League games but his transfers kept breaking down over personal terms… I wonder if he was as difficult to transfer in real life!

Does her not being listed mean laura Wienroither’s contract already runs to next season
