Arsenal have confirmed that Karl Hein has signed a new contract.
The Estonia international, 22, was due to become a free agent at the end of June – probably a tempting prospect given his lack of game time – but has been persuaded to stay at the Emirates at a time when the Gunners need at least one keeper to be around for the start of pre-season.
As we’ve mentioned previously, five keepers are being released this summer – including Arthur Okonkwo who has signed for Wrexham – leaving Mikel Arteta very short of options while he waits for David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale to return from international duty.
While time is on Hein’s side, he definitely needs another loan to gain further senior experience. He has only played once for Arsenal and five times for Reading who signed him in the second half of the 21/22 campaign. Despite his lack of domestic minutes, Hein is his country’s undisputed number one and has 30 caps to his name.
On signing his new deal, the keeper said (from the beach!): “I’m delighted to extend my contract and continue my journey in this amazing club after six years. Hopefully, there will be even more good memories and successes for the club.”

All Hein King Karl
I’ll get my coat
It’s not the end of the Hein for Karl
Hope your coat gets sprayed with Hein’s ketchup after that joke
He’s a keeper…
Hope he didn’t get a heinously inflated contract
That would be a real kick in the Heinie
Heinsight is 20-20 afterall…
Hein for the future
We need all Heins on deck right now.
Hein he can…Reaching the shots that other keepers cannot reach.
Probably.
