As first reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Lyon have expressed an interest in buying Gunners left-back Katie McCabe this summer. The Ireland captain has been at the club since 2015 and signed a new contract with Arsenal last year.
Lyon have just appointed former Arsenal boss Joe Montemurro as their manager this summer, the Australian coach was instrumental in turning McCabe from a squad player into one of the most integral players in the team during his time in North London.
David reports that Lyon have been told that Arsenal are not interested in discussing a sale which reflects our understanding of the situation, but that Lyon are primed to come back with an offer if Arsenal indicate a willingness to sell.
Our understanding is that Arsenal are adamant the player is not for sale at any price and that Lyon are aware of that. Arsenal consider McCabe pivotal to their quest for major trophies as they enter their fourth season under Jonas Eidevall. Only Alessia Russo played more minutes in the WSL for Arsenal than McCabe last season and McCabe took the number 11 shirt this summer following the departure of Vivianne Miedema.
No go, Joe!
Lo siento Joe, la ragazza rimane qui.
Can’t blame Joe for trying! I wonder whether he made enquiries of Viv?
