Arsenal will have five players in the England squad for this month’s Women’s U19 Euros, with Michelle Agyemang, Katie Reid, Vivienne Lia, Freya Godfrey and Maddy Earl all selected.
Agyemang and Reid spent much of last season on loan at Watford, while Freya Godfrey spent last season at Charlton. England will face France, Serbia and Lithuania in Group A at the tournament which starts on July 14. Lia and Reid both made their first team debuts last season.
Meanwhile, former Gunners goalkeeper Kaylan Marckese, who left the club this summer at the conclusion of her contract, has joined Tampa Bay Sun in the USL Super League.
Glad we’ve still got one Viv anyway
Would love to see all these talented youngsters reach the heights with AWFC. Unlikely I know, if just one or two make it would still be fantastic.
Good news that Kaylan has a new club. She certainly left a number of good memories from all her work in the AFC Community programmes even if her luck on the pitch was very limited.
Watching the AWFC contingent in action for England WU19s raised the question in my mind about whether the minimum age for females to sign professional contracts is still 18 whereas it seems to be 17 for males.
