Arsenal Women will play a pre-season friendly away at Southampton on Saturday, 31 August to complete their pre-season schedule. The Gunners face Washington Spirit this Sunday in DC, followed by another friendly in DC a week later against Chelsea.
Then they will fly home and finish their pre-season prep with a friendly away at Championship side Southampton at St. Mary’s on Saturday, 31 August at 1.30pm. The Gunners start their campaign with a Champions League qualifier against Glasgow Rangers at Boreham Wood on 4 September.
Arsenal met Southampton in the Conti Cup group stages last season at St. Mary’s and came from a goal down to win 2-1 thanks to late goals from Frida Maanum and Amanda Ilestedt. Eidevall was effusive about Southampton and the 12,000 crowd at that game, telling Arseblog News:
‘The atmosphere today was great, this would have been one of the top attendances in the Champions League this week, that’s great and shows the growth of the women’s game in England. Southampton have a really good process and they are building really well and it’s obvious when you see them play, it’s going to be very interesting to follow them because they are very competitive.’
Tickets for the game will go on sale on Tuesday.
Go get ’em girls.
