As Arseblog News reported earlier today, Cloe Lacasse is leaving the club this summer to join NWSL side Utah Royals.
Our understanding is that the player was keen on the move both to play more regular football and retain her place in the Canadian National Team and to be closer to her family.
We understand the fee Utah are paying almost certainly exceeds the fee Arsenal paid Benfica for the player last summer. Lacasse scored five goals in 28 appearances after moving from Benfica last summer.
‘Although my time at Arsenal was short, it was filled with memorable moments, thanks to the incredible teammates, staff and fans. I’m grateful for the experience,’ Lacasse said.
‘I will always carry with me the memory of scoring in front of you all at a sold-out Emirates Stadium. I wish the team, the club and all you Gooners the very best moving forward.’
We loved you, too, Cloé. Have fun at your new club.
Such a good player, so sad to see her go. We didn’t see enough of her on the pitch. Wish her well at her new club.
The US, and by extension, the state of Utah, does not have a monarchy. So why Royals? It doesn’t make sense. Clearly, it should be Utah Saints.
Well, I just know that something good is gonna happen if they change their name to that.
What can you do for me? I need somebody!!!
Who’s down voting this? 😯
Heathens!
Probably the same reason there’s a Kansas City Royals in baseball. Or a Sacramento Kings in the NBA. It’s still better than how MLS names their teams. I’m looking at you, Real Salt Lake, Sporting Kansas City and Inter Miami FC.
The Kansas City Royals were named in 1969 through a supporter submission contest and the supporter submitting the name Royals connected it to the American Royal, which is an annual Livestock Show held in Kansas City since 1899.
Can I blame Jonas for the bad weather too?
Such an underrated player. We should of given her more game time.Big loss.😥
I get the being in the same continent thing but Utah is almost as far from Canada as London is! 🙂
Shame she has to go but we move on.
Going to be sad about this for a while but absolutely respect the importance of her place in the national team, it’s been a slow burn to get there. Can’t help but think of might have been though
Loved having her at the club, will miss her.
Twenty fooooooouuuuuuur :’)
I’ve looked at at FBRef to see who can be the best replacement of Lacasse.
Rasheedat Ajibade of Atlético Madrid and Julie Dufour of Paris FC are featured in the top 10 similar players to Cloé and Beth Mead. Both of them are under 25, not playing for big clubs and have 1 year left on their contracts.
As I said in the comments from previous article, such a shame. Anyway, she can find joy of playing at Utah Royals. Nice club as I see their website. And the way she’s been welcomed! If you see there how she scored in the minutes she’s got at Arsenal…amazing goals. She did her part for Arsenal to finished third last season. But yeah, if you have enough money on the bank…Jonas, I think you’re in trouble if you don’t get that title next season.
Cloë, I’ll follow you there too….
I will now follow them with interest
