Deportivo La Coruna have signed Charlie Patino on a permanent deal for a fee in the region of £1 million.
The England under-21 international leaves Arsenal after nine years and with two senior appearances to his name.
Patino began training with the first team on a regular basis in 2021 and scored on his senior debut to round off a 5-1 win over Sunderland in the Carabao Cup.
Still only 18, he made his first and only start for Mikel Arteta two weeks later in the FA Cup as the Gunners crashed out at the hands of Nottingham Forest.

Loan spells with Blackpool and Swansea saw him earn plenty more experience in the Championship but with new midfielders joining Arsenal in his absence, he fell further and further down the pecking order.
Having been tipped for big things at the Emirates, it’s a shame things haven’t worked out. At the same time, he’s still only 20 and the chance to play in Spain, where he holds a passport through his father, and for a well-decorated club represents another opportunity for him to reach the top of the game.
It’s reported that Arsenal have negotiated a significant sell-on clause, so if he does thrive, we’ll be in line for a payout.
Best of luck to him, he’s definitely a talented lad.
All the best Charlie! Hope you rip it up over there 👊
Goodbye Charlie! Damn sure, it is a movie title.
Where did it go so “wrong”? Just 2 years ago he was labeled as the next big talent coming from the academies…
happens all the time
Not to Mbappe, Messi, Ronaldo, Henry and Fabregas, five examples already! lol.
Miguel Azeez
Real extreme case- few years ago he was on the fringes of our first team and now he’s without a club. Poor fella.
Not extreme at all, more par for the course.
Arturo Lupoli Joel Campbell
… in a million…
maybe fans should stop labeling young players ‘the next big thing’ and let them develop andgrow at their own rate
If they cant handle that, how are they supposed to make it anyway?
One example is Bojan who was seen as a future big striker for Barcelona and Spain. Said he couldn’t handle it and was having anxiety attacks when he gets on the field.
It depends on the circumstances too. I do not think Arteta would have kept Alex Song and Iwobi but Wenger did.
I wouldn’t either, it became clear that neither was good enough.
When you’re a midfielder (or footballer) you have to have either strength/balance or first step quickness/burst, ideally both. Aggression/combativeness helps. Charlie is good with the ball but he is lacking these traits. That might still be fine if you are superlative (like Ozil) and the team is structured around your on-ball talents, but otherwise your place will be taken by guys with less finesse but more substance. That’s Charlie’s journey to date. The Spanish league is more tactical and less duel oriented and they appreciate a technician, so it should suit him. Still has a long way to go to… Read more »
Speaking as someone who married a spaniard and, as a result, regularly visits Galicia, I will happily give Charlie some advice.
If the whole family looks at you smiling as you put the fork to your mouth, you’re about to eat a pigs arse / cock / ear / brain / bowel.
Are you eating potatoes? Or are you trying to get likes.
Bro this isn’t a flex, we do that here. They’re just called sausages.
Hahaha!
That’s so true.
“Hooves, lips and shits” Yummy!
Oh so Spanish clubs are doing business today… figured Moreno would be done by now
Merino I suppose.
They call him the black sheep – Merino Moreno
🤣🤣🤣🤪
Pedantry is a choice.
100% agree. Peasantry is a choice.
See what I did there?
Speak for yourself.
Go and succeed, son. It’s morning yet on creation day for you.
Blessings ❤️🙏🏾
So emotional that video, tbh the cinematography and editing weren’t top notch but that piano arpeggio! I almost shed tears and I haven’t seen the lad play even once. Also one of the first times I’ve heard Galician spoken and it has a lovely sound to it. Good luck to the lad ✨
Does anybody remember Zelalem?
Yes, but Zelalem was lazy, unfortunately. No surprise, he didn’t succeed.
He wasn’t lazy, just not very big slow on the ball and not very athletic . The original Fabio Viera.
