Jesus set for MRI scan on groin injury

Mikel Arteta says Gabriel Jesus will have an MRI scan to determine the seriousness of the groin injury which kept him out of today’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

The Brazilian suffered the problem in training on Thursday, and as yet the time frame for his absence is uncertain.

Speaking after the win at Villa Park, Arteta explained, saying, “Unfortunately on Thursday in the training session, just at the end he felt something in his groin.

“We’ll need to assess him. We need to have an MRI scan to see, but he wasn’t available for the game.

“Probably tomorrow or Monday we’ll have the results to see if it’s a matter of days or weeks. We don’t know.”

If it is weeks, it might have an impact on what Arsenal can do in the transfer market before the window closes on Friday. Eddie Nketiah was strongly linked to Nottingham Forest this week, but the injury to Jesus meant he was required as cover for today’s game, and on his future, Arteta wasn’t particularly forthcoming.

“At the moment, Eddie is our player,” he said. “He’s very committed to us. Regardless of the noise, he’s here and he wants to be here with us.

“He’s really happy that we won the game.”

Let’s keep fingers crossed it’s nothing long-term, but either way it promises to be an intriguing week ahead of the transfer deadline on Friday at 11pm.

More proof that we need a WF that can play CF before Friday…

Absolute Camel

I can’t understand why this hasn’t happened already. I feel that Arteta is really riding his luck here. He clearly doesn’t trust Eddie.

Starteta

I think it is about some promise he made to Jesus when he was luring him to Arsenal. h egave him extra time but already knew that he can rely on him.

Bobbert

We also still need at least one body in the midfield who isn’t 17

Mark

I think the plan in the midfield is with Merino coming in to likely play the left 8 position that will move Rice to the 6 so we will have Partey and Jorginho on the bench along with Nwaneri (Partey or Jorginho coming in would obviously move Rice forward). Plus Havertz and even Trossard can play there so we do have options. I’d like to see Zinchenko even get a look when it is feasible (cup games). If we keep Nelson and sell Nketiah would expect us to bring someone in to provide wide cover and maybe even some striker… Read more »

Bobbert

Can merino play 50 games? No. We lost elneny, Smith Rowe, and potentially Vieira for the season, so that’s 3 out and one in an area we were light on the last 2 summers.

Vincent O’Carroll

In the past used to look at top teams and see how many Gunners would make their first 11……now I look at our own squad and see who from the top teams would make our starting 11…..
In my own opinion we have options for left midfield but to make that next massive step forward genuinely need a real No.9 and cover for Saka who gets little or no protection from referees…..
We are close….We are very very close……

So now it’s fashionable to call out our lack of attacking depth? I said this on a previous article and got downvoted to hell.

Absolutely insane transfer window so far. Shipping out all the attack and midfield cover to bring in another left back for the bench, and a journeyman L8 who may or may not get into our best XI.

We are in deep trouble if nothing changes by Friday.

A different George

Next time you post, please be sure to remind us again that we should downvote you.

Dr. Gooner

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, but “everything sucks” is not likely to be a popular take in most places. I personally enjoy comments that try to explain rather than just complain.

Kris

To be fair, though I don’t share his negativity, he has explained his perspective. He’s clear that he thinks we’ve added two players who may not make the XI and have lost depth, which hasn’t been replaced, in the attacking positions. If it stays that way by the end of the window, I do think there will be a few more fans slightly bemused by it than is currently the case.

ScotchEggsRule

He’s so unlucky. But it’s an omen, for us, that it’s happened before the deadline closes.

Eric Blair

Given that we can’t rely on Jesus to be fit and Nelson to be good enough I think we need two forwards.

The crumble one

3 certainties in life: death, taxes, and a significant Jesus injury.

I miss santi cazorla

Its so frustrating.

Fatgooner

Both Partey and Jesus should have gone this summer. Neither can be trusted to stay fit for the season.

Goonshow

Enjoy a decent break then, Fats?

Bobbert

Neither can be relied on to stay healthy long enough to provide the required adequate cover or competition for places. Adding merino is fine, but he’s basically replacing elneny (something we that needed addressing last summer). You can also put jorginho in that bracket (and possibly zinchenko) as he can’t go more than three games on the spin. We need depth, particularly in the midfield.

portugunner

that‘s exactly what we got! 😀

Theo

Of the two ex Mancheater C115y players Jesus has been the greatest flop (at leased for the position he signed for and of course availability for selection). However it would be remiss to discount their influence on our upturn in fortunes in the last 3 seasons. They gave the team a belief that it was possible and in turn the team raised it’s performance. Unfortunately they both need to be moved on now. One can’t defend and the other can’t score, both consistently injured. They’ve done their part but are now simply hogging the payslip for so little output. This… Read more »

Heavenly Chapecoense

It is difficult to defend Gabby Lord for his goal output but I really want to.

Justsayin

Then what kind of club would we be if we should sell every long term injured players? Would you say the same thing about Tomiyasu? ESR is also in this category and so is Timber, soon!

I dont have the answers but I believe that Arsenal should treat these cases individually and have done correct by keeping Jesus so far. A contract extension may not be on the books because of his injuries but if he the next two season can contribute as a back up to Kai/Saka, than that is fine for me.

Aleksander Włodarz

Are you ready Eddie? We need you !

Bobbert

Looks like we are getting that forward this summer

Crash Fistfight

This might be a stupid question, but when we refer to a groin injury in football, does that mean an adductor muscle injury or does it refer to a very specific muscle?

Ebo

or a very specific non-muscle in your groin area, if you catch my drift? Perhaps our little Jesus isn’t so holy after all? Say no more, and keep that MRI away from the kids dare I say.

Dr. Gooner

I always thought adductor

I miss santi cazorla

You’re a doctor.

Mark

At least it happened now and not next week. Definitely see Nelson staying at this point and looking bring someone else in.

Sean

Jesus has basically switched back and forth between injured and ‘playing his way back to full fitness’ since December 2022. Until that changes there’s no way we can rely on him to solve our issues with attacking depth going into this season

Bukake Saka

Ever since Diaby I gave up on hoping for a injury prone player to stay fit for a longer period of time. We should just move on and stop relying on him.

Kst

Fuck this guy honestly…injured in training?? Pep happy to see him go ..has to be said. Yes ok great touches, vigorous attitude but fuck off you sicknote with your sad puppy eyebrows. We need MEN to get the business done!

Dr. Gooner

Mate.

Abhi

Jesus H christ

Goonshow

So… would you take Calvert-Lewin or Toney at the only-4-days-to-go, no-one-wants-’em, ASDA mark-down price?

Wouldn’t want to pay more than 25-30m for either but needs must?

El Mintero

We can’t let this influence our need to sell Eddie to forest for 30mil. If we keep him because of Jesus never being fit then we’ll never have a sniff of getting decent money for Eddie ever again…cmon edu get the Eddie deal done.

Heiku

We should buy Messi. I mean who would you rather play for? The Arsenal or the miami mermaids?

Ben Ross

Jesus would be one of the greatest players ever if he was always fit. Such a shame. I think we should buy Raphinha and when Merino comes in nobody is beating us. 🔥

Gervinho is Driving

“He’s really happy that we won the game.”
Eddie needs to go somewhere and play.

Wengerball

Can we stop buying City rejects now?
