According to The Athletic, Ajax are ‘optimistic’ about signing Aaron Ramsdale despite a first attempt to loan the player being rejected by Arsenal.
Ramsdale hasn’t spoken about his future but it’s widely assumed he’ll leave the club in some capacity before the transfer window closes.
For the moment, Arsenal are prioritising a permanent exit for the England international but they may back down from that stance given the clock is ticking and nobody seems willing to pay their asking price.
Ramsdale signed a new contract at the Emirates last year but was relegated to the bench when loan signing David Raya arrived not long after. Given the deal for the Spaniard included an obligation to buy him for £27 million, the writing has been on the wall for Ramsdale for quite some time.
If Arsenal do signal a willingness to let Ramsdale leave on loan, Ajax, with whom we’ve already done business for Tommy Setford, could face competition from a host of Premier League clubs. Southampton and Nottingham Forest are said to be waiting in the wings.
The Athletic claims Espanyol’s Joan Garcia is a possible replacement. That said, if Arsenal are looking for a familiar face, Wojciech Szczesny is on the verge of terminating his contract with Juventus. He’s pondering retirement at the age of 34 after a move to Saudi club Al Nassr collapsed.
Whether Wojciech would adhere to all the non-negotiables is up for debate.
Ragsdale is an excellent keeper, we should wait to get a decent sum for him. Not averse to Szczesny, he was a great keeper and very funny when he was with us.
Poor guy, first he loses his place to Raya, now he’s got a demeaning nickname. It’s a real Rams to Rags story.
I’d love him back at our club, he’d be the perfect #2, and surely we can find out about how professional he’s been behaving since he left the club.
Professional enough to win more medals than any goalkeeper we’ve had since.
The story about Szczesny might be just a lot of smoke.
And, are we sure the report of a bid from Ajax is not just a trick to get Erik ten Hag to buy Ramsdale?
“just a lot of smoke” LOL. Well played!
I heard we are offering him a 10 year deal to be Frimmy’s sidekick on Colney Carpool
I heard Marlboro Town FC are interested in Woj…
He really was part of a motley crew in that Arsenal era.
I agree, that said I’m sure Wojcech would absolutely light up if Artera comes calling for him.
Arteta:
“My non-negotiables include:
1) No smoking
2) No drugs
3) No mars bars or crisps etc at Colney
4) Be on time for training always”
Szczesny:
“Ok boss no problem! But couldn’t we amortize that?”
Why would he play 2nd fiddle to a goalkeeper who has won nothing at club level who can’t get in his national team.
2nd fiddle means he has chances to play.
Retirement means he doesn’t play.
Maybe cause.. I don’t know.. he wants to play?
Alan, I remember meeting you at a nightclub in 1981.
Definitely not at your best as you were asking me how to score that night.
The afro was out of fashion by then. I was living off the 79 cup final at that stage.
Don’t understand the desperation to let Ramsdale go. If we can’t get decent money for him he should stay, honour his contract and help us fight for titles.
The issue here is whether he’s want to do that. Surely he’d want first team football – at a certain standard? If we’re keeping him at Arsenal against his will, how do you reckon he’d play?
At a minimum I’d expect him to play well enough to put himself in the shop window. He only signed a new contract last summer right? I don’t think it’s too much to ask him to fight for his place until a proper offer comes in.
Apparently Arsenal don’t share your thinking.
Yeah, one of the issues is him not willing to be a 2nd keeper for another season, the other is we know he has quality and his value can increase back to its normal levels if he has a good season somewhere, so we don’t make a loss on him if and when we decide to sell (which is basically assured since our coaching staff is in love with the qualities Raya brings). Many people point to the Ederson-Ortega pair at manshitty, but Ramsdale has sadly proven that he needs consistency to perform and his confidence is not immediately up… Read more »
We just rejected an offer, I’m not sure we’re as desperate as the media makes things out to be…
He’s making 120k GBP / week. Most PL first keepers and even good backup keepers make half of that. That’s 6m difference over the remaining 2 years of his contract. For any potential buyer it’s even worse: He would be stupid to take a pay cut and he would be looking for at least a 4y contract. That would be 16m more than what Southampton pay McCarthy and Forest pay Turner. That would come off the transfer fee. Which is already inflated. If we can loan him out over the next 2 seasons without retaining any wages that’s probably the… Read more »
Exactly. This is a shit show of a situation for both Arsenal and Ramsdale. Ridiculous giving him that new deal then benching him almost immediately for a “better option”. Now no one will touch him when he’s earning at that level…more or less same situation with Eddie. Bumper contract to keep him on the bench then end up punting him for peanuts just to clear the books…Arteta and Edu need to improve in this area. Not fkn good enough.
Why not keep him? The same argument with Eddie and Reiss is also wages. Mikel approved those contracts, Edu should tell him to use them. Good players other managers would have no problem using.
Did we reject it by sending “lol” to Ajax, or reject it like that rant from Tom cruise in that movie where he’s fat and Matthew mcgaunogaey is behind him, looking amazed by Tom cruise character’s negotiation skills (what’s the movie called?)
Tropic Thunder!
Tropic Thunder? lol
Lol yeah!
One of the best and funniest movies ever made and “never go full retard” is in the hall of fame of movie quotes.
What do you mean you people, What do you mean you people.
Mcgaunogaey 🤣
I haven’t smoked cigs in 14 yrs but will light one up in honor if Woj returns.
Filed under “Former Players”? Aren’t we getting a bit ahead of ourselves?
Woj is the one the article is referring to as former
I would LOVE to have scrabble back. One of our own.

At this point we need to really consider keeping him unless we can find an experienced keeper to replace him. Going into the Summer it was probable that we could sell Nketiah, Nelson, ESR and Ramsdale for a good sum of money (over 100 million was possible for sure), but now it looks like we may just get the funds from selling ESR and be stuck with paying fairly high wages for players that likely won’t play much of a part at all.
Still plenty of the window left and it’s about to get heated. it’s been an odd one because of Euroes etc. My money is on both ins and outs before it closes.
“RamsdaleMyMythicalhero” is this taken yet
let him leave, stifling his international career keeping him at the club.
