Report: Bournemouth interested in Nketiah

Bournemouth are showing interest in Eddie Nketiah after the England international’s proposed move to Marseille collapsed earlier this week.

The striker appeared to be on the verge of sealing a move to the Stade Velodrome but despite his representatives travelling to the south of France to thrash out personal terms, their attempts to agree a €25 million fee with Arsenal fell on deaf ears. Marseille have since recruited Elye Wahi from Lens.

Having been linked with Crystal Palace earlier in the transfer window, it’s not surprising Nketiah is appealing to other Premier League clubs.

Bournemouth’s reported interest comes following their sale of Dominic Solanke to Sp*rs. Having netted £65 million in the process they have money burning a hole in their pocket as they search for a replacement.

Here’s hoping that plays into Edu’s hands.

While Arteta has hinted he’d be happy for Eddie to stick around at the Emirates, you suspect the player needs the move to progress a career that stalled in the second half of last season.

Honestly don’t believe Bournemouth have genuine interest unless Arsenal subsidise his wages.

Moore

He can stick around… We have plenty of use for him

myrtle

That’s the short of attitude that will see us come second again this season.

Jeremy

Likeable guy and good for someone but never was/never will be at the level we need to achieve the big prizes.

Guardian of the Arse

It doesn’t seem like we have plans to bring in another striker. So, we either have a squad with Eddie or without him. A squad with Eddie is a better squad, even if he doesn’t play much.

Dr. Gooner

I agree with you. If we can use the proceeds for a top forward then great, but I wouldn’t sell him just to sell him.

chuffy

Can see this materialising and it might just wake Crystal Palace up too. He needs a move to kick start his career again, but he’s not an elite level striker that Arsenal require.

We need to have some direct competition for Saka on the right wing. Its not Jesus and I would assume Nelson will go if Arsenal ask for real money (£10-15 million).

At this point I don’t see Arsenal signing a centre forward, even though that’s what all us fans want. Arteta is happy with Havertz and Jesus and in fairness goals weren’t a problem last season.

Abhi

Goals were the problem in the first half of the season, and that’s where we lost it.

Guardian of the Arse

Not really, or at least you cannot say goals were a problem in “the first half” of the season. Only part of it.

But also keep in mind that basically that entire time we played with neither Kai nor Jesus up front. In fact, Eddie played the first 10-ish PL games?

Dr. Gooner

I don’t think he was ever considered the top striker option at the club, so I would judge his value not against other top striker options but based on the depth he provides as a second or third choice option. Viewed through that lens, I think he’s more than fine. He’s an established, reliable option who at a bare, bare minimum can bang with defenders and eat up minutes that spare Jesus’ knees. Binning him off is fine as long as you can use those funds for a quality attacker, but I don’t think a sale for the sake of… Read more »

Goals were a problem in late December as we were not creating enough chances and the few we created were missed. That’s where we lost the league.

I have a feeling that our shortage up front may be what impels Arteta to use Nwaneri so that Saka’s legs don’t fall off.

Weird kind of silver lining but potentially a big one. Similar circumstances gave playing time to Saka, Fast Gabby, and ESR (who looks completely the man at Fulham) and saved his job. Gotta give the kids some love. If not, they end up at Chelsea, like Omari Hutchinson (like they had a path for hom to make the first team) and ManU like Obi-Martin (ditto).

I would have thought the same if Nketiah was Mketiah!

Jeremy

For me at this point it’s sell Eddie and bring in a wide forward or striker who can raise the level. Do this and arsenal have a real chance of being successful this season (assuming the left 8 role is sorted with Merino). Fail to do this and for me it’s another season of being the bridesmaid. Probably unpopular to say this but I can’t shake the feeling that we are an injury or two away from being a lot less potent.

An honest question from a persian fan: why they spell spurs with a * ?

Sh*t.

It’s a no win for Edu, whatever he does regarding sales, 50% of the fan base will be unhappy.
There’s the best part of 17 days to go before the window closes, a lot can still happen…

Bobbert

And bournemouth should know that wddie is available at the knock down price of only 64.5m!

Up4GrabsNow!

The real story is that Sp*rs manage to help us despite their best efforts.

thw14

Holding out for the right price on sales makes complete sense to me.

The dithering over incoming, however, is not strategy. It is the ‘istory of the Arsenal.

matthinc

I don’t think Arsenal have dithered in the last 3 seasons at all. This is an old story now past its sell by date.

Ebo

Never mind that the two are also related. If you buy too many players before selling you’re not likely to get higher transfer fees for sales because you end up on transfer dead line day with too many players, many of which know they won’t play for you, and their agents know it, and so everyone else knows it. That’s called selling from a position of weakness.

joshuad

i think this deal will happen. bournemouth need him, he needs to move, and arsenal need to cash in. i was never a fan of eddie’s extension at that wage. no backup center forward makes that money. likewise, his wages makes it difficult to move him on.

if he does leave, i think he’ll do well at bournemouth. they played good football last season.

Gervinho is Driving

I just don’t see what any premier league club thinks they’re going to get out of Eddie that’s different than he showed he could do at Arsenal, which is a modest scoring record and not much in the way of hold up or linking play. Plus inexplicable matches when he did a lot of walking around. He’s a squad player, impact sub poacher. Is that worth 30 million to anyone?

Dr. Gooner

Low blocks vs transition based offense. Small spaces vs big spaces. Chalk and cheese my friend.
