According to various sources, Reiss Nelson is on the verge of joining Ipswich Town on loan for the rest of the campaign.
The winger had looked set to stay at Arsenal but a late, opportunistic move for Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling has led the club to change their stance on his availability.
It was reported at the start of the summer that the 24-year-old was looking for a new club but despite flirtations with West Ham, Leicester and Crystal Palace, a move wasn’t forthcoming.
Having signed new terms at the Emirates last summer, it’s believed his six-figure weekly wages were a stumbling block.
🚨 Ipswich Town working on deal to sign Reiss Nelson from Arsenal. #ITFC very close to securing agreement with #AFC & 24yo winger on season-long loan – no option or obligation to buy. Chance to depart helped by potential Raheem Sterling deal @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/LTBceFTanE

While Ipswich have their work cut out staying in the Premier League, Nelson will fancy his chances of playing more regularly having spent the last couple of years as understudy to Bukayo Saka.
He certainly needs to play at this point in his career.
Really love Reiss. I wish he does good there, proves Arteta wrong and comes back next year as a Gnabry. Good luck!
Reiss has had many loan opportunities but I have not seem marked improvements in his play. Either for the loan team or for us. I almost know what to expect from him which does not fill me with much excitement. It could be the pressure of playing for Arsenal or comparisons with the person – Saka – that plays the same position with him.
Wish him all the best at Ipswich. Hopefully, with the big team pressure off, his talent will be better expressed.
He did well in Germany (spectacularly at first) and in the Netherlands.
This is exactly the test he needs though.
Needs to play badly! You wonder what may have been if he had 100 matches over the last 4 seasons…has more talent than all those Chelsea wingers…who knows, may come back one day…
Bad move, even with sterling we should keep him for cover. So many minutes to be played this season
Hard to provide cover when the manager only gives you 10 minutes when we are chasing. Good servant of the club, academy local kid, let him play and have a career, he has earned that much.
Ipswich are a well run team. Should be good experience for him, but hope we don’t need him to cover.
Reiss Nelson can hit iiiiitttttt
“Having signed new terms at the Emirates last summer, it’s believed his six-figure weekly wages were a stumbling block.“
This is what drives me fkn nuts. I’m increasingly losing confidence in how our squad management is run. We seem to do this all time and pay the consequences when they realize these players don’t fit the team anymore 12 months later…Fkn joke.
It protects their value. Important players don’t leave on a free any longer at Arsenal. The club is so well run now, it continues to surprise. They completely and wholeheartedly know exactly what the fuck they are doing. I’m continuously impressed!
We just let ramsdale go for peanuts how is that protecting his value? We gave Eddie a ridiculous contract and the market has told us (so far) that we’re fkn delusional in our valuation of his talent…oh and this is purely a 12 month off the books move with zero obligation to buy…what’s the fkn point.
Nearly as mad as signing Rambo to a 5 year deal after an excellent season, dropping him a few months later, letting him rot for a year and then wonder why we get less than £20m for him. Turning down a £20m offer for Maitland-Miles from Wolves, not playing him and then giving him away on a free a few years later.
Careful now…speaking the truth on here will result in the PR mob downvoting the fck out of you…:)
“Speaking the truth” ? Well, of course you have a right to your opinion, and perhaps you might even be right about one player or one deal. But here’s what you actually said: “I’m increasingly losing confidence in how our squad management is run.” That just makes no sense to most of us. The squad has gotten stronger each year. We won more games than the Invincibles, lost the league narrowly to a nation-state awash in oil. The players, by all accounts are happy; players want to come to Arsenal. To me, that means we have excellent squad management.
Our attacking options of the bench are getting worse by the minute. Jesus is always injured, Martinelli has his fare share of injuries and now poor form, Nelson going, ESR gone, Nketia most likely going, Vieira gone. I really don’t like how this is turning out. Pull the rabbit 🐇 out the hat ffs.
The last four you mentioned never got any minutes at the business end of the season. What has changed that you think the manager would play them this season?
If u don’t get it, then u don’t get it.
Poor lad ending up at Ipsh!t
Sad move but necessary for him and pointless keeping around.Doubt we’ll see him Arsenal colours again. Good luck Rhys!
Well, that move went fuck-eyed pretty quick…congrats Fulham?
Only tangentially related, but since he’d be linking up with fellow Hale End winger Hutchinson… Does it frustrate anyone else that we lost Hutchinson to Chelsea who then made a decent sum off him all because we decided to sign a very unproven Marquinhos out of nowhere, who has since proven to be far from the level required? Given our overall context, I’m not at all complaining about the job Edu and Arteta have done, but every little bit does help. A bit like the decision not to sell AMN to Wolves only to barely play him from then on.… Read more »
If it happens I think this is a good move for him. Personally I think Reiss has shown his outstanding street playing skills when he comes on when the state of the game is in chaos and MA let him loose, but he has yet to convince me whenever he starts and the structure necessitates him to play with a handbrake. Thus if this loan happens and if he can establish himself as a starter at Ipswich, I m looking forward to see what he can do when given the opportunity to start regularly. Establish players at this level like… Read more »
