Beth Mead and Godfrey start either side of Alessia Russo upfront. New signing Rosa Kafaji is on the bench, Daphne van Domselaar is not in the squad because she is still rehabbing from hip surgery.

Just noticed that this game is listed to be shown live on DAZN, at least in my regional version. (.at)
Not sure which other regional versions of DAZN might be carrying that as well.
Game starts in roughly 20 minutes btw. (8 pm CET / 7 pm UK.)

Update: It’s shown on DAZN Rise, this subchannel is streamed for free on youtube (just search there for dazn rise livestream) and can be watched without any DAZN subscription. Again, I can not be sure if they geoblock that stream on youtube for some countries, but for me here it works. Have fun whereever you are watching the game!

1-0 Arsenal, minute 10
Beth Mead received the ball in the box (I think after a long pass by Kim Little), then shot it a few meters vertically into the air for some reason, the D.C: defense was completely dumbfounded about that move, forgot to keep track of Alessia, who scored from about 5 or 6 meters distance without any interference by D.C. defenders.

Otherwise 2 big counter chances wasted by D.C., one before, one after the goal. Both just barely missed.

1-1, minute 45+2
After 2 good saves by Manu Zinsberger, a defender clears the ball. D.C. obtain the ball and cross it back into the box from 20 meters out, Manu runs out, but the D.C. player gets to the ball before her and heads it over her into the goal from about 7 meters distance. Goalscorer slightly not offside, due to the general confusion in defense, no defender was anywhere near the goalscorer.
Half time whistle almost immediately after the goal.

After watching replays in half time a few corrections: For the first goal it wasnt Beth who kicked the ball vertically into the air. She tried to control the ball on knee level in the box, when a Washington defender tried to nick the ball away from her, which resulted in the vertical kick that Alessia scored from with a volley. For the Washington goal, when the cross was kicked, the scorer was still tightly marked. Our defender just completely stood still and raised the hand for offside while the striker moved forward. When she headed the ball (beautiful header… Read more »

Minute 62, Zinsberger going off injured or “injured” Didn’t see what had happened, but she sat down while the ball was far away from her and subsequently received treatment on the right wrist or hand for about 2 minutes. Thought at first it was the trademark “Goalie playing injured, so we can make a tactical huddle at the sidelines” thing, but then she was actually substituted. Don’t wanna speculate too much, but maybe it was still a planned substituation. with the bonus of a huddle. Zinsberger looked ok and did a high five with bench staff with the “injured” right… Read more »

Minute 73, 2-1 Arsenal Sarr excellently pressured in midfield by 2 Arsenal players, she played the ball back, intercepted by Kafaji I believe who beautifully put it through to Russo. Excellent run from Alessia, no defenders in front of her, no offside, she rounds the keeper and calmly slots the ball into the goal. Minute 79 An almost 20 second long pinball scene in our box, ball just scrambling and bouncing from one to the next player, nobody could get a good shot on it or control it. Finally we clear somehow. Crazy luck to not concede from that. Our… Read more »

Minute 86, freak chance / missed sitter Washington Our last defender shot the ball from inside our box against the bum of a Washington player about 3 meters outside the box. Ball bounced back from the bum to Lotte at the left side of the box who for some reason low crossed it back into our box towards the penalty spot right into the feet of a Washington player who badly missed to the side of the goal. That was basically like a free penalty kick. Minute 91, huge chance Arsenal Agyemang excellently gets the ball, runs free on the… Read more »

Good summary of the match and glad you noticed Manu’s high 5’s with the injured hand that apparently got her substituted.
Just for info, the official Arsenal website streamed the game live with a proper commentary team and they are doing the same for the Chelsea game next week so no need to go looking for DAZN channels simply go to the Gunners website.

Lol, thanks mate, if feel stupid now. Would have definitely watched it on the website, if I had known. Just watched another game on dazn before and then noticed that it would be shown there. Didn’t even know at first that the game was today, then I checked here and there was no mention in the preview where it’s shown or that it’s shown on the website as it’s normally the case in the game previews. .

Nacho de Montreal is tasty

Thanks, lying in my bed, I picture your description and that was fun. Can also do VAR in my mind as many times as I wish to.

Glad you had fun. Good night then I guess, will sleep as well now. 🙂

Was at the game today, recently moved to DC and I was impressed all around. 15,000 turnout was great and the stadium is really well designed, seats close to the pitch and great viewing angles. Summer break Arsenal was clearly not ready for the heat, but their overall talent got them through it. Pretty good pace from both teams for such a hot day. Spirit were actually really solid and had enough opportunities that it could have easily been 4-2. And all without Rodman from the USA squad. Really fun day of football and looking forward to Spirit game and… Read more »
