Jorginho says Arsenal have taken to laughing at Erling Haaland’s scoring exploits after the Norway international took his tally for the fledgling season to nine goals in four games thanks to a brace against Brentford.
While the Gunners responded to City’s 2-1 win at the Etihad with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the north London derby – a win that saw Mikel Arteta’s side climb to second in the table – it’s clear Haaland’s form represents a big threat to Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the season ahead of Sunday’s meeting between the two sides.
“Erling scoring again, it is starting to make us laugh,” joked Jorginho after Sunday’s win.
“We look [at City’s games] because we look at all the games and we love football. We love the Premier League so we watch all the games to be fair.
“We watch them as well, which is normal. Again it doesn’t get to our head. We need to focus on us and that is what we are trying to do.”
After finishing behind City in consecutive title races, there’s an expectation that the Gunners could go one better this season. For that to happen, Arsenal will have to be near-perfect, which is easier said than done given the loss of key personnel during the opening weeks.
“We know it is a long season and anything can happen,” said Jorginho.
“Everybody needs to be ready. That is what we try to do. We are very positive and trust our group and what we are doing. We need to keep on this way.”
“I think the team is working together, going through the process together. You learn more about each other. You just get better because everyone wants to improve and wants the best for the team.”
He added: “If you want to achieve big things you need to have the mentality of trying to win every single game. That is what we need to do and that is what we want to do. That is what we are trying to do. You need to keep in this way. Keep believing in what you are doing.
“We are believing in what we are doing and we keep working hard to improve on what we need to improve and keep doing right the things we are doing right. I think we are on the right way and we need to keep it going.”
Let’s just see how he does against the bash bros on Sunday.
Odd thing to say (at least in the way that it was phrased) right before a match with City. It’s the sort of statement that a manager would post on a wall or in front of Haaland’s locker to help motivation. Maybe he meant something along the lines of, “We just laugh at Haaland’s scoring because what else can we do? He’s an amazing athlete who is doing unprecedented things. But we will have to find a way to stop him.” If so, fair enough, but that’s not how this phrasing sounds. It sounds more like, “We laugh at Haaland.… Read more »
2 Haaland goals in 6 matches against us, shows how strong our defence is! Fingers crossed we keep that up at the weekend.
And THAT’S all he contributes to their game – just stands waiting for the ball to be fed to him to score.
Never a team player, can you tell that I don’t like him?
Hear that Rodri – we want and try to win every game. Twat
Haaland got 115 little cause to score.
It would be fun if Haaland scores 115 goals in all comps this season and they get relegated.
I note that the Cartel are still continuing their public relations campaign regarding the Rice red card, whilst remaining SILENT about the Liverpool player who was NOT sent off at the weekend for the exact same offence.
I certainly won’t be feeling sorry for the Cartel ref who claims that he had no choice but to send Rice off, after allegedly being put in a difficult position.
For some reason I thought that discretion was a thing that Cartel refs were allowed to use, but clearly this doesn’t apply when it comes to Arsenal players.
The next phase of the Repercussions of the cartel’s decision starts on the weekend. Rice now has like 3 months or something like that to avoid getting two more yellows and a suspension. Pity they had to rely partly on sp**s to get their goals done…
