Man City 2-2 Arsenal – player ratings

Arsenal come so close to taking all three points against Man City, only for a late John Stones goal to break our hearts.

City went ahead early through Erling Haaland, but a brilliant debut goal from Riccard Calafiori and a Gabriel header put us 2-1 up, before Leandro Trossard was shown a second yellow for ‘delaying the restart’.

It meant the Gunners had to play the entire second half with 10 man, and the lads put in a huge defensive effort until that late goal saw the spoils shared.

Here’s how the players rated this afternoon.

Savage

Two minutes from our biggest win in 20 years. It hurts.

But once the dust has settled, it will be seen as a great point

Dada

I nevr wnat to hear anyone asking what Martinelli brings to this team. What a team we have!

Wengerball

Need someone who produces on offense. We have enough defenders..he can sub when we need extra defensive pressure but he should not be put in to help us score.

Glenn

He did get an assist…

Wengerball

You mean the LB who has his first start for us scored a worldie and gave Martinelli a stat..
Listen I know we love him because he works hard but we’ve been ruthless with other players and let them leave the club so by that same rule, Martinelli should be seeing the bench until he can produce.

Vonnie

Oh fuck off you misery.

Red Cannon

He saw Calafiori coming & laid off a nice ball for him. Obviously it wasn’t a given that Calafiori was going to put the ball in from where he was, but the shot wouldn’t even have been possible if Gabi hadn’t created space by drawing defenders to him & then made a nice pass.

Sulla

Do you mean attack?

Rufusstan

He assisted the Califiori goal

Dada

OK.

Paul mccarthy

Really?

vandall777

What? One good game in 20, 30, 40 games isn’t good enough.

Wengerball

Biggest win in 20 years? We need to stop this nonsense. It’s a regular league game, sure against a tough team but we’ve had multiple finals we’ve been in in the last 20 years

Savage

Which one? Name a bigger win than where we were away against City in a close title race and playing 45 minutes with ten men? FA Cup wins sure, but the league is the ultimate. The other finals were losses so they don’t count.

Wengerball

Yeah FA cup is a trophy. Finishing 2nd doesn’t mean anything. We need to stop putting Man City on a pedestal and treat it like another game and we will win them a lot more regularly.

Savage

You’re missing the context

FMT

Thank you!!!!
We should not allow click baiters and media to gaslight us so easily!

Bleeding Gums Murphy

We win this year. You can see how much the players want it.

Indiegooner

Over my dead body says Oliver Twisted

SG_Gooner

He probably doesn’t care if city wins. He just care that UAE pays him his Daytonas for his performances.

He gets one today.

A5000m555

Yes. All the team excellent. Can’t believe ref and league. Felt that having done everything pre game to tire the team out, they would have kept the extra time going until City scored. Interested to see if anything happens to Pep for attacking his chair. If Mikel did that, we know what would happen.

Indiegooner

Remember Wenger being sent to stands for kicking away a water bottle?

Russ

That was disgraceful from Pep. What sort of example is he teaching. Expected better from someone like him.

Bobbert

*2 minutes beyond the allotted.

Hayduke

Savage, how dare you talk sense to me in my current state!?

Sharp

So does it make 116 charges now?

Lewiemac

Actually, 132 now

Lewiemac

131*

truj

And counting

Arteta’a Hair

I love this team so fucking much

BsinGooner

The fact that I feel disappointed that a 10 men Arsenal just got a point at arguably their toughest match of the season, speaks a lot about this team. Massive!

Arteta’s Hair

I love this team so fucking much

Guns Up

We really should exclusively be here celebrating Gabriel scoring that wonderful goal after the provocation from that worthless cunt, Walker. Sad that we aren’t, but I love this team so much. Well done, boys!!

Berserker Fury

Watching him poke around Gabi and than loses him only seconds later, and then frustated by his own mistake 🤣

Ashburton Patriot

haha…
the way Gabriel sold him a dummy, juked the other way and towered above him to clart it into the back of the net…
then camera panned to walker after and you could see him mouthing… “its my fault!” in frustration.
Kyle, it’s gonna take more than a few taps to stop that absolute BEAST of a man!!
I foggin love this club man.

Okester

Thought five for Trossard was a bit generous. Spot on with the others though. Massive shifts all round. Proud of the boys.

Berserker Fury

I’m rate them all 10 for playing 3 back to back, hard, away games. Also for put up solid defending against 115team and his bit*c Oliver

Berserker Fury

*I rate

Joker

Irate is right.

Davidcan

Without Martin as well.

A M

watch city bleat about “wanting to win more” and arsenal “bottling it”
the fact that even liverpool and united fans want to see us fail more than city is astounding

Berserker Fury

Liverpool is still our rival i guess, but Man Utd ? That shit club isn’t even our level anymore 🤣

Helen

Saliba & Martinelli ratings are currently mixed up

Bruce

So is Trossard and saliba

Gorkhali G

Monumental effort. Extremely proud of this team. COYG !!!!

BringBackSeaman

Rodri Last year – “they Came here to not lose, not to win.. you can’t be champions like that”

5 seconds into his next meeting with Arsenal… He got Taken out.

Don’t think I love Havertz as much as Is do right now!

Berserker Fury

Hope that bastard gone for long time, and got serious, recurring injury 🤪🤣

Sam

Arsenal, as a club, for the most part, as a fan base, are classy. We don’t stoop to wishing other pro’s ‘long term, serious Injuries’. We don’t need to and it isn’t right.

BringBackSeaman

agreed

Berserker Fury

Yeah but the guy didn’t back his talk. His lips is stronger than his knee, which is weird considering he is a “pro” footballer

Gunner

Normally I’d agree with you, but this is the same c*nt that deliberately injured KT and tried to injure Ødegaard during the same international break, just to try to get an edge. I hope he rots in hell

Bobbert

He’s proven what type of person he is on the pitch and off it (celebrations and interviews), you can say mean things about him and his behavior, it’s fine.

Mark

Think it but don’t say it. Like when the bullet missed Trump.

¶aulson

This is very stupid to be honest.

beldar77

there was one brief replay clip on TV( I assume it’s the same camera feed everyewhere but maybe not replays) on the Havertz / Rodri thing where you see see Rodri slide step into Havertz’ path – seemed intentional. Did anyone else see this clip?

Henrik

Whats the point of doing ratings when its 10 by default? Seems like a waste of time,

Alex

Well it’s blogs’ time to waste if so

Henrik

Because its the best place to go for ratings when its serious. Rating all ten because of the result is not.

Bobbert

Subscribe to the patreon if you want to see the real ratings

Ebo

Oh dear, god forbid we sometimes (only sometimes) talk about football, a game where people try to kick a ball into a net, in anything but the most serious, scientifically objective way. Punish all who exhibit such blasphemy and contempt of this most holy life or death endeavor of grading the players.

dinosauras

#arseblogout!

Flashman71

You have somewhat really missed the point! Enjoy the performance in terms of mentality, strength and resilience, esp given the dark forces we seem to be up against. Also, (not patronising here) enjoy the humour!

Johnno

I think Andrew is making a point rather than analyzing every detail like an ice skating judge. It was an immense effort from the 10. If you didn’t see that the. You clearly weren’t an Arsenal fan when guendouzi Pepe and auba played for us.

Shivam

I do like the overall feel of your comment, but comparing Auba to Pepe, Guendouzi is a bit disrespectful to Auba. It didn’t end well with Auba but he was and remains one the the best finisher we have had for some years.

Anderslimparisverygood

If the roles were reversed and we created so little against 10 men then all the pundits would be lauding city’s titanic defence and what a good point it was and how blunt we were in attack. Instead all we are hearing is that we could have done more in possession? Each player gets 10 out of 10 for second half performance.

Coilin O'Connor

Eek! I think the Saliba has been inadvertently given Trossard’s rating. 🙂

Swamp Puppy Gunner

I am shattered. I aged about 45 years. I am so impressed by our efforts collectively. That ref should be shot out of a cannon into the sun. What a match.

Collibosher

If I aged 45 years I’d have to switch allegiance, because I’d be 115. (Only joking!)

Ebo

Being shot out of a cannon into the sun honestly sounds pretty glorious, that ref deserves nothing of the kind. He should instead be tied down and forced to watch awfully officiated football matches until he ages by 45 years, then another 45 years and then another until he turns to literal ash and then Ben White’s dogs come and poop on that ash.

Bobbert

I wonder if pep is going to host pgmol at one of his restaurants as a thank you. They won’t have far to drive, as all those cunts are local.

Berserker Fury

That bald cunt definitely sucked Oliver’s dick after match

Bobbert

Learn some euphemisms please friend- “fellate” and “serviced” are right there.

Sharp

And I really don’t know what he was screaming out at the 4th official face after the whistle.

Edzo

Pep knows he’s a fraud. His team paid the head of officials one million a year when he was at barca. He could not bribe the German refs and didn’t have unlimited spending in Germany so he sold his soul for the unlimited funds of abu Dhabi. And he knows his club have cheated. There will always be an asterisk next to his City years.

Use tedit icon to pin, add or delete clips.

No matter what you say Pep deserves his flowers as a great coach. He did win 3 bundesliga titles in his time at Germany.
And we have his understudy as our Manager so there must be some good in him that we are benefitting from.

BLUEBERRY

That would be cheap. He hosts them in UAE.

Cuban coca-cola

At a 27-star restaurant/hotel

because that rating, like everything else associated with the UAE, is totally legitimate

Bobbert

Well pep isn’t really known for spending his own money

truj

I enjoy that City players were so happy after equalising at home against the 10 men Arsenal. Mid table mentality. 😂

Matt

Can you imagine how much Richard Keys would be wringing his ape hands if this had been the other way around and we were celebrating.

truj

I’m lucky not to listen to the games in English.

thw14

Can slush-fund the club out of mid-table, can’t take the mid-table out of the club.

Leftie

It is heartbreaking, but I’m just so damn proud of the lads.

Jack4343

All 10’s from me but big shout out to Mr. Oliver for ruining what was shaping up to be a very entertaining match. You killed the spectacle all to fulfill your biases.

Joker

Or directives.

Frog In Ze Room

Proud of the team. Great point in hindsight. Disagree on Trossard, disgraceful decision. We need to show aggression, which he did , and there’s nothing justifying such a soft yellow.

Bjorn

Word. Again – Getting tiring to repeat, but if you’re booking Tross for that you’re also booking Docu earlier.. Such inconsistency is unacceptable when the consequences are so huge. 🙁

Gary Murray

How about Haaland header directly intiSaliba. He gets away with murder every match

looover

Soooo… It has now been confirmed by the Premier League Match Center that Trossard was sent off for delaying a freekick and not for the soft shoulder poke. I mean, Trossard kicked the ball a split second after Oliver blew the whistle. Somebody please tell me I’m dreaming because they can’t be serious???
And yes, the boys in red deserve nothing but praise after today’s heroics!!! COYG

Savage

Also remember it was after the six extra minutes, timed at 7m13. If it was for violent conduct, well Haaland did the same. If it was for kicking the ball, well Doku did the same. The league needed Arsenal to win.

BillW

Yeah it would be interesting how long after the whistle the kick was, surely less than a second. And if you watch, the kick was a continuation of play where he kicked it into space that Martinelli (I think) had space to run into. They can say that everyone knew it was going to be called a foul but if it doesn’t get called (and can’t be 100% sure) he’s continuing play to start a counter. As bullshit as the Rice one was, play had clearly stopped. Being expected to stop your action within milliseconds of the whistle is crazy.

Edzo

Reminded me of when RVP got a second yellow at barca when we were winning on aggregate.

Walleye

100 still pisses me off

Hurensohn

Go watch sobozali get away with the exact same thing last week too…

Dizzle

On NBC coverage during halftime they said that the decision was for delaying the restart kicking the ball away. Just before second half started Champion and Le Saux said that is not what they heard from VAR as it was happening since they get the audio. VAR said “confirm on field decision of second yellow for reckless challenge.” Love the blatant lying.

Bobbert

Covering for each other just like cops- because integrity and honesty aren’t what’s important to them- protecting themselves is.

Rcb

The refs are blatant cheaters

truj

Criminals

Wellarsed

Really frustrating result. Again the referee not only influenced the outcome but effectively ruined the game.

BTW Blogs, I think you’ve confused Trossard with Saliba in the ratings list.

Tony

There was at most half a second between the whistle and Trossard kicking the ball. He was already on the move and full of adrenaline. This rule is ridiculous by itself but the specific decision was beyond ridiculous. The officiating in the Premier League is so bad, it’s truly baffling.

Dimma

It was very rvp against barca wasnt it? And again, like against brighton, a player i think it was doku, booted the ball away earlier in the game but didnt receive a yellow? I get the rule but the inconsistencies in implementing it are ridiculous. The fact that trossard kicked the ball away a split second after the whistle is very very harsh

Walleye

T.rlousard was clearing the ball at the end of the half. Don’t understand the call

John

Saliba appears twice, the second time in place of Trossard?

onenil

That sums up his defensive effort in the second half

Gunnerzaurus

Fuck City
Gonna give Michael Oliver a nice pay bump his next refereeing trip to Dubai

RockyRog58

Weird that they play multi ball system.yet someone gets sent off for kicking THE ball away ???? Just a thought and while I’m thinking ??? I’m proud of the lads today & my final thinks are: Oliver is a corrupt tw*t “allegedly” ? City players cry like the old “Tiny Tears” doll if you pull their strings Oh and I think we have the best keeper in Europe playing behind THE BEST defence !!! Sorry could I just add that Michael Owen should never again be a pundit ! Thanks Gooners !

CLE

This game really suited Partey well being so compact and his positioning controlled the top of the box. For someone who is much maligned and on his way out after this year, we better seriously consider how we will replace what he does bring.

Gilberto Silva’s smile

Merino will do! Looking forward to seeing what he brings tactically..

Bleeding Gums Murphy

Well said. He’s being critiqued and rightly so but some are being just abusive. I keep saying he’s a very important player for us and particularly going forward in transition.

loose_cannon

Thought he was fantastic, especially in the second half. Arguably his best performance for 18 months

Sulla

I think there is now a template for less capable teams to take points off Citeh. I think it was Inter mid week, and that battle of Thermopylae we saw today.

Robert the Elephant

Mate, I respectfully disagree that THIS Arsenal team is less capable than Man City’s. I actually think that Man City will come to the Emirates as underdogs.
BTW, when is the last time City beat The Arsenal?

Filpo

This game reminded me those old time, when we went to the battle against United. We showed great spirit and passion. No one can bully us anymore!!! So proud.

Cuban coca-cola

Stolen.

but it’s clear the 115’s don’t have much of they don’t have rigging and theft on their behalf

Rozza14

I’m willing to hear what that d*ckhead Howard Webb has to say about Michael Oliver and his willingness ‘to have a negative impact on the game by overreacting’

That’s said, today I’m more proud than ever of supporting this team. COYG

Bobbert

I’m not. He should go into punditry if he wants to be a television personality so badly and let someone who is serious about the game reshape the officiating. What he’s done is damage the league’s brand beyond repair.

Asatheo

An extra point to Partey for Rodrigo’s injury.
Hoping it’ll be an ACL, thereby taking him out for a very long time

Hurensohn

Normally I would say that’s a bit classless but Rodri is the type of player I can make an exception for. To be fair, TP doesn’t touch him.

Asatheo

Even tho I agree its inhumane of me to wish him that kind of injury, I still have to thank whoever made my wish come through exactly how I wanted it.
Now let’s see how they’ll cope without their main man.

Ash

1 pt today, but 10 pts for the first person who gets the oppurtunity to slap Michael Oliver and takes it. Muppet.

Bobbert

It’s worth the charge, shame I’m 10k miles and an ocean away

Hanning

Fuck PGMOL.
That’s all.

ItsUpForGrabs

Harsh ratings by blogs….I thought the entire team were 12 out of 10!

George

City deserved nothing from that game. Couldn’t be prouder of the second half effort and overall game from the lads.

Edzo

What is left for us to say about the refs after what Wenger said: there is a reason why prem refs never take charge of European finals or semis or the WC matches in the later stages.
They are incompetent.
It’s not rigged but clearly refs will card arsenal players for delaying a restart but not other teams. Doku did the same thing before Trossard. And we know what happened at Brighton. It’s a bad joke.

Vonnie

Why does everyone keep saying it’s not rigged? It looks fucking rigged to me. Why does the same referee that’s done us over so many times in the past get given this huge match? I believe PGMOL are match fixing, and nobody has the balls to call them out. It’s easy to hide corruption behind a mask of incompetence.

Edzo

Because if it was rigged City would never lose. Like Putin gets 90 percent of the vote.

Oliver is incompetent. I’d also say he’s biased against arsenal. Most refs are biased as they are human beings. We know some refs give certain players benefit of the doubt.
That’s different than the premiere league telling refs to favor one team over another.

Maybe I’m wrong.

gunnerboreus

I think both things can be true. It may be that the PGMOL are a self-serving arse covering institution who cover up and distract from errors….without collectively deciding to favour some outcomes…..and that at the same time a few (maybe more than a few) of their members have financial arrangements with the Middle East?

It’s certainly not a level playing field, that’s clear.

Vonnie

When City lose their nearest rivals will drop some points to make up for it. The only way that this Arsenal team can win this league is to be well nigh perfect and abide by a set of rules that no other team is consistently held to.

Goonshow

Oliver hasn’t just done us repeatedly – just last season alone, he had an embarassingly long list of key decision that always favoured one team… guess who? Here’s a clue: the same bloke who was flown to the Emirates last year, to ‘ref’ a match there, and got paid a quick 20 grand for his troubles… BY THE OWNERS OF MANCHESTER CITY !!! So here we are then… a ref PAID BY CITY’S OWNERS does the following: adds more than a minute to the first half AFTER the added time has elapsed, when – coincidentally – it is City, not… Read more »

Hayduke

As I slowly stop seeing red about Trossard seeing red I start to think about how the best defense in the league just added Calafiori and Timber. They are both fucking ballers. Miles too.

So proud of the performance today. And enraged. And happy. And disappointed. And, and, and…

Dave Cee

I.m certain we would have won the league last season if Timber hadn’t missed the whole season

Dave Cee

Great effort by the team today

Bobbert

And if the refs had done their job at Newcastle in any of the three incidents they conveniently missed or neglected.

Gunteta

Do you think Timber is about to usurp Ben White at right back? Any idea why the change today? I think LB is cemented for the time being. It’s Calafiori’s to lose. This back four and the keeper are really becoming world class. City may have the better attacking options, but I honestly think we have the best defense.

Mark Lankester

I would say this. The game highlighted again the inconsistency of referees. Some also want purely to grab the headlines.
11 against 11 I believe we would have won.
Overall a true game of 2 halves. One we won with 11 players. A second we lost with 10 against a team that has been built by skullduggery and that have referees believing they can do no wrong.

Ukesox

And a 4th official that decided to give City 7 minutes of added on time.

Goonshow

Which still wasn’t enough for the slimy cunts, so Oliver just kept playing until they got their goal!

Latsy

I’d have rated Jesus for taking the ball off Bernardo Silva every time they went up against each other.

Goonshow

Fuck me, but that was epic – he just nicked it like Bernadon’t wasn’t even there.

Edzo

Here is what I wish Arteta would say: Brighton delays a restart and doesn’t get a card. Arsenal delay a restart but get a card.

Man City delays the restart and doesn’t get a card. Arsenal delays the restart moments later and gets a card.
Ok press. Go ask the refs and the premiere league why Arsenal is penalized but Brighton and Man City aren’t.

Then maybe journalists can do more than just pontificate about City’s character for coming back. Blah, blah, blah.
Put the refs under pressure.

Bobbert

If you mention the referee in anything official from a club, you are targeted by the press and the officials for bringing the grassroots game into ill repute. How some under 9s ref is impacted by the blatant cheating we watched today I will never know, but that’s how the press will spin it and knives will be out for us. You simply cannot win.

Chris

PGMOL are ruining the game.

jeremy13

Gonna win this league despite the leagues incompetence. I love this club!!

Dennis Asiimwe Bibangambah

We need to improve our discipline. It should be a non-negotiable, especially if we believe the refs are in league with MANCHEATY.

Trossad should have known better by a mile.

Also, the team defended like gods.

Let’s not get a man sent off again for that nonsensical reason…it’s becoming absurd. And it weakens us – we need Tross…who we playing next…?

gunnerboreus

I think you have a good point.

The players have to deal with the reality that at least some of the officials they will face are biased and that it is not a level playing field. It’s not right but it’s the reality and we have to deal with it.

A liverpool fan said to me this week – “”the only way to compete is to accept that Citeh have everyone in their pockets and get on with it”…….. I’m sure it’s not “everyone” but it’s not no-one either.

Goonshow

Yep – the point is simply: do NOT give them any excuse to bring their petty egos into the game. Because, as we’ve repeatedly seen with certain referunts (my new fave word!), they will!

Sinoia

Personally emotional BS ratings do nothing for me.

Zet

What was Jesus thinking. Bringing the ball back to our touch line instead of clearing it away.

Kampala gooner

Trossard didn’t kick the ball away. He was trying to reach an attacking player

zeke60

What’s all this CRAP about Arsenal and the dark arts?? We were playing away with 10 against the best in the world for fuck’s sake! OF COURSE we would try to slow the game down any way we could! Give us our 11 and we probably would have scored a third on a counter while City were trying to tie the game!
