Arsenal’s hectic festive schedule confirmed after latest TV picks

Eight of Arsenal’s Premier League fixtures in December and January have been given new kick-off times following the latest round of broadcast selections.

Who the fuck decided to place a game on January 1st?
I mean players can’t celebrate new year properly and supporters will be recovering from the heavy drinking and stuff lol

Goonerrific

Plenty of us work on New Year’s Day mate

ClockEndRider

Historically we played Boxing Day and New Years Day. And that’s not even that long ago. Get over it.

Dada

my family has a made Arsenal games in the new year a bit of tradition even during most horrible times

Block16

It’s a bank holiday, so it’s always been a traditional day for football – same with Boxing Day (although in non-league, at least, I remember that often being for local derbies).

Meanwhile in America, they have sport *on* Christmas and Thanksgiving, so by comparison the Premier League footballers do well

Arsepedant

Like other posters, I love the tradition of starting off a new year with Arsenal. And as one who watches from the west coast of North America, I love that kick-off will be at 9:30 my time so I can actually celebrate New Year’s and not feel too gross for the match.

Chipper49

On the upside we seem to have a lot of home games and the away ones are mostly in London so not too much travelling.

Ebo

Hectic yes, but none of those teams are titans, we’ve gotten most of those out of the way for this half of the season, or will have after Liverpool and Inter. I’m actually more afraid of a banana skin slip up vs. the likes of Brentford or Brighton than anything Tottenham or Man U can do, because those latter teams actually try to attack us, and they’re not that good at it, and that plays into Arteta’s hands.

Lishman

At least its all midtable sides

Vonnie

Midtable sides with a week between games.

Block16

They’ll be just as busy around Christmas. The bigger issue for the clubs with European football is the fatigue/injuries they take into that busy period of fixtures, but on paper they should have the squads to deal with it better.

Vonnie

So many games, it’s relentless. Hopefully our squad is fully fit so we can share the minutes, otherwise it’s going to be really tough.

Ross Lomas

Again all the festive games are late kick offs, how are younger kids supposed to watch games. God I hate Amazon.

Ealing

i know, but it has shown the PSG game, and will also show the Shaktar game, whichis good for me, as I can watch CL games without paying for TNT;

A lot of games, but actually not too bad a schedule spacing and travel wise compared to other years. Potentially not leaving London for the whole of December is another bonus. Spurs on midweek is strange one though, I thought the police doesn’t allow the PL to put this fixture in an evening slot given it’s high risk?

Block16

Presumably midweek is treated differently since most fans will be at work (and will have often work the next day) so there will be a lot less booze in them.

John

Great. I work Wednesday evenings. 3 rearranged matches switched to Wednesday nights and both Champions League games studiously avoiding Tuesday and Thursday as well. I bet the League Cup games will be on Wednesdays as well if we beat Preston (also on a Wednesday of course).

Tommmy

I swear we play so many Saturday late KOs. Furious as it’s the worst for my schedule

Okester

Some of these fixture changes really throw a spanner in my Christmas game planning.I had a family event on 7th December I couldnt get out of and had already promised someone my Fulham tickets. Now its been moved to the Sunday I still cant get out of the family thing and miss the game. Grrr. However, like another poster touched on – At least there’s no major travelling.
