According to The Athletic, Jack Wilshere is set to join Norwich City as a first team coach.
The 32-year-old has been coaching Arsenal’s under-18s for the last couple of seasons but is known to be eager to test himself at a higher level.
He interviewed for the head coach position at MLS franchise the Colorado Rapids and was said to be in the running for the manager’s job at Aberdeen when the position became vacant in February.
A move to Carrow Road would see Wilshere work under Danish manager Johannes Hoff Thorup who recently lost assistant Narcis Pelach to Sunderland.
Thorup, 35, was appointed by the Canaries in the summer having worked his way through the coaching ranks at Nordsjaelland.
We’re assuming it has helped Wilshere’s cause that he worked with Canaries’ Sporting Director Ben Knapper who moved there from Arsenal a year ago.
As was the case with Knapper, it’s claimed Edu and Per Mertesacker won’t get in the way of a move having been pleased with Wilshere’s development.
First you get depressed because the players are younger than you.
Then you get depressed because the managers are younger than you.
I’m really not looking forward to when the owners are younger than me.
Good luck though Jack! I sort of feel (from very little knowledge) that he’s been a good under 18’s coach, but maybe not a great one.
Perhaps it gives us a chance to make an elite appointment in that role and Jack can further his career elsewhere.
Let’s hope we see him back in some capacity once he’s taught the canaries how to fly.
My (admittedly superficial) impression of him has always been that he’s a brilliant football mind but not necessarily a brilliant communicator. I think he’ll make an excellent coach on someone else’s coaching staff, but maybe not a great manager. Similar to Patrick Vieira perhaps.
I’m convinced that at least part of his motivation for going to Norwich is based on the guilt he still feels for utterly humiliating the club and everyone involved with it with this absolute masterpiece of a team goal back in 2013.
When I saw the headline mentioning both Jack and Norwich, that is exactly what I thought of. Sometimes, watching for the thirtieth time, I still don’t believe that goal. By the way, Giroud does pretty well, too.
Yes, me too. After that humiliation, I’m amazed that the Canaries will go anywhere near him!
Probably the goal that most epitomises Wengerball, more than any goal by the Invincibles or any Bergkamp/Henry solo magic? Pretty sure he had a Wengasm that day.
The weight on the final flick from Giroud before Wilshere tucks it away is sublime. Still remember my incredulity as it went in.
Sounds like you are suggesting Giroud as his assistant manager! 😉
that was 11 years ago??? jesus christ… i was already feeling old with johnny’s post and now i realize the goals i remember have become a part of an archive of “good goals you have to send the youtube link of because no one really remembers”
Josh kroenke is 44
Stan is 77. 🙂
We can watch football for a few more decades.
He does not turn 45until Monday next week. Until then, he remains 44 because that is how things work
Jack Wilshere and Norwich an excellent match. Goal of the season in 2013-14!
A retired Wilshere can be the best player for Norwich.
Best of luck to him, would not be surprised to see him back at Arsenal one day.
Seems that someone doesn’t fancy Jack coming back.
Super happy for Wilshere, I’m still gutted by how his career ended. A super baller, an Arsenal man, a gunner not that there’s a distinction, I just love the man. I wish him well at Norwich and may his coaching career be as successful as Wengers and may he come in 10-15years to take over from Arteta and continue our gunner tradition of good intertaining football.
