According to the BBC’s Emma Sanders, Everton are preparing a bid in the region of £100,000 for Arsenal’s Danish midfielder Kathrine Kuhl. The Friedkin Group have now completed all formalities around their takeover of Everton FC and the women’s team now have some money to spend in order to drag themselves away from the WSL relegation scrap.
Kuhl has only played 21 minutes so far this season across the WSL and the UWCL and couldn’t get into the team even when Lia Walti and Kim Little were both unavailable. Our understanding was always, unsurprisingly, that Kuhl would leave the club in January. Her agent visited the Sobha Realty Training Centre in November and while we don’t know exactly what those discussions were about, we rather doubt it was to discuss a new contract.
BBC Sport’s Emma Sanders is reporting that the Toffees, who had Kuhl on loan for the second half of last season and whose coach Brian Sorensen coached Kuhl at FC Nordsjælland, are readying a bid. Given her lack of game time and the size of the offer, it is difficult to believe that Arsenal would stand in her way if she wanted to reignite her career on Merseyside.
I hope it works out because it would be a great deal all round. KK would be working with a manager who values her and playing in a squad in which she has a role. Everton get what they want, we get £100k.
As long as we don’t spend it on Keira Walsh… (Great player, not what we need.)
Totally agree. Ke is too good to be cooling her heels, and Walsh is not an Arsenal-ey player
Don’t forget we’ll have Vicky back soon and we still have the England U17 Skipper Laila in the squad and she idolises Kim Little apparently! We don’t need Walsh!
Hurrah… I’ve really missed vic
Yes good luck on Merseyside KK. Technically gifted but not really what we need. As for Walsh, I wouldn’t pay £10 never mind multiples of a thousand!
I think keira walsh is worth more than 100k
Is it 100k for a week?
Transfer fee to arsenal
Funny and all…but it is my understanding that 100k for this player is substantial in the women’s game, correct?
A good deal all round. I do hope it works out for Ke, though I do wonder whether she’s physically robust enough for the WSL.
With Vic returning and KCC beginning to look the part, midfield is perhaps not our priority for reinforcement. Something Alan Hansen used to say has recently come to mind “the one thing defenders hate is pace”. I do therefore feel that what we need is a really fast winger.
My view is that it’s a much better deal for Everton than for Arsenal – KK is an excellent player who has been under-utilised and under-appreciated at Arsenal.
Kathrine Kuhl is Pernille Harder’s key midfield link player for Denmark, and yet we haven’t been able to incorporate her talents into the team.
I agree. It’ll be Evertons gain, Arsenals loss, and short sighted for the future. But she needs game time for her international career. Whatever the outcome all the best for her in the future, she’s too technically gifted to be wasted.
Completely agree. She’s unfortunately been woefully under-appreciated and it is sad that the club have not made use of a player of her talent level. At the end of the day, she needs to do the right thing for her career.
Indeed. And the fact that she gets into the Danish side, as a youngster who is barely featuring for her club side, tells us how highly she is rated. She is better off going elsewhere and developing.
Lmao. Please. She looks like a kindergarten player playing against college students every time she plays. Her technical prowess has never been in doubt but you can’t always win with just that at the highest level. Her physical ability has always been suspect. Loses every duel, easily moved off the ball, and makes a mistake or 2 every time she does play long minutes for us. It’s not every player that will work out at a big club like Arsenal and I can guarantee you we won’t miss much when she leaves. It’s Arsenal. That she gets into the Danish… Read more »
Telling it like it is as usual, mate! I think she has a talent but is she up to the job of holding the Arsenal midfield together ? No! It appears Jonas didn’t think so and nor does Renee and they have both seen a lot more of her than we have. Just because she passes the ball to Harder in the National team does not make her a “must have” in our squad. Lot’s of players come, and who wouldn’t if Arsenal offer a contract, but once it is obvious it’s not working out then move on and continue… Read more »
Reading between the lines it appears KK wants to go to get game time which is understandable and Everton popping up with their newfound finances pretty much seals the deal. But… before we get too ahead of ourselves and start buying and selling players wouldn’t it be a good idea to determine who the manager will be in January and ask them who they want in their squad?
If they continue the structure under Jonas then the double pivot of 2 very experienced defensively minded players will likely remain a priority (so probably Walsh). A new manager might have a different vision but it’s more likely going to be Renee don’t you think?
Walsh’s case is similar to Mary Earps’, for this delay in choosing the coach, I don’t know, I have my doubts, they put Clare in the fire to solve this alone, Arsenal doesn’t even have a sporting director, I ‘m sure the priority is the men’s team.
I agree. How can they make decisions about buying or selling if they don’t have a coach? He or she is the one who decides who they want for the squad.
I am pretty sure this situation happens very often in football. If they are negotiating with potential managers right now, I would assume they’d tell this person that they intend to sell Kuhl and she would not be in his or her squad. Any potential manager who hears this and desparately wants to keep her can surely have a say. But let’s say they sell Kuhl on Jan. 1st and only after that start to talk to a specific potential manager, then it’s just a fact that Kuhl is not there anymore. In case they plan to go on with… Read more »
The right thing to do is to have a permanent coach to make these transactions and see who he wants or doesn’t want, there were two international breaks and they didn’t resolve this.
The club has got to make a decision. This situation is untenable. I want them to appoint Renee Slegers (assuming she wants the job) but whatever happens they can’t go on like this. It’s starting to become embarrassing and it’s disrespectful to Slegers – I imagine her agent’s phone is red-hot. When it comes to a new manager, the club have to come out of their comfort zone and take a risk, do something different to what they normally do. Because let’s face it, we have never got close to replacing the legend that is Vic Akers. Laura Harvey was… Read more »
Here, here! Renee has done enough for a contract to the end of the season with another season option at least. Let’s face it, who else is available that we could believe is a step up on what she has already done? Nobody is the answer!
I suspect the decision may already have been made to appoint Renee, and that she has been made aware of & agreed to it. Once the details and contract length are formalised, an official announcement will be made – probably before the end of the year.
Good luck to her, l hope it all works out well for her…… Just not against Arsenal 😊
