Nelson sidelined until end of February say Fulham

Reiss Nelson is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after pulling his hamstring during Fulham’s 3-1 win over Brighton a couple of weeks ago.

The Arsenal winger has enjoyed a positive start to his season-long loan at Craven Cottage bagging a couple of goals and an assist in 13 appearances. Unfortunately, it now looks like he’ll miss all of the Cottagers’ festive fixtures and beyond.

Running through his side’s injury list, which includes Joachim Andersen, Harrison Reed and Nelson, Fulham manager Marco Silva said of the latter: “Reiss Nelson is going to be longer [than the others], it’s difficult to say when he’s going to be back. Probably around 10 weeks.”

Fulham will also be without Tom Cairney and Calvin Bassey for Saturday’s trip to Liverpool, which is a pain because Arsenal could really do with the Reds tripping up at some point.

Arsenal first team loanees

Karl Hein, Real Valladolid
16 appearances (1,440 mins), 3 clean sheets, 34 goals conceded

Nuno Tavares, Lazio
12 appearances (932 mins), 8 assists

Fabio Vieira, Porto
14 appearances (734 mins), 2 goals, 1 assist

Sambi Lokonga, Sevilla
9 appearances (652 mins), 1 assist

Reiss Nelson, Fulham
13 appearances (574 mins), 2 goals, 1 assist

Marquinhos*, Fluminense
36 appearances (1,988 mins), 2 goals, 3 assists

*He’s not been included in a Fluminense squad this month and it’s been reported his loan may have ended with Fluminense opting not to exercise their right to buy the player. This means Arsenal may need to shift the winger in January, assuming he’s back at London Colney.

Nuno Tavares8 assists? Bring him back! Shame as I think Lazio already has a (very low) agreed price if they want to buy him. Could’ve got more with those stats.

C.B.

Apart from Tavares none of them have great stats so they aren’t looking likely to return.

Fabio had a slow start at Porto as he was injured and played very little until October, but he’s getting into the groove now and is playing very well for them.

C.B.

Good player but will have to become excellent to threaten our captain or Ethan.

i hear karl hein has been doing a good job despite his team being absolute shit. they sit bottom of the table, but he’s had some stand out saves, which is good given he’s only 22

I think Fulham have been happy with Nelson, so much so that he’s displaced Traore in the starting line up. I actually think the better these guys do on loan, the less likely they are to return because other teams will want them.

Marquinhos LANS?

GBizzle

8 assists in 12 appearances is pretty amazing. He’s not right for us as we don’t play with his type of profile but I doubt there are many players playing g in the top leagues in Europe with numbers like that.

He might turn out good for someone else after we sell cheap for various reasons. Look at Mika Biereth, we sold him for 2.5M? Kid has 2 goals in the champions league, leads the scoring charts in Austria and is likely to pick up a consecutive title with Gruz. And at 21 years of age with his physique, I won’t be surprised if he ends up in Germany or Italy for 20M or thereabouts. Meanwhile city and Liverpool get that for kids who have barely played top flight football and Chelsea got that from Ipswich for our kid kid who… Read more »

It’s a tricky one with young players who don’t immediately impress in their first few loan spells. A good example to Biereth could be Morgan Rogers. City had him, had 3 quite underwhelming loan spells, so City shipped him off to Middlesbrough for a pittance (though with a big sell on fee), 6 months later he’s been moved on for a fee rising to 15 million, 12 months more and he’s an England international. Would he be where he was now if City had kept him or sent him on another loan rather than selling to Boro? Maybe, but sometimes… Read more »

True.

Poor Reiss, that always seems to happen to him, seems to always get injured and be out for 2 months just when he starts to gain a bit of momentum and form and get a run in the team, then comes back when there are players established well ahead of him 😥

Gunner1971

Gutted for him – he was becoming instrumental to their attack – hopefully comes back strong down the stretch

Parteynelli

Does Karl Hein have any defenders in front of him at all?

Ebo

Yes, heinous ones.

Gunner1971

Tavares is still an Arsenal player! Is Yaya Sanogo still on loan somewhere too? Maybe Joel Campbell also?

A different George

Joel got out when he could.

Alan Sunderland

Joel would have got out quicker for manslaughter with good behavior.
