Arsenal confirm Jesus ACL blow

Arsenal have confirmed that Gabriel Jesus did indeed damage the ACL in his left knee and the striker will undergo surgery in the coming days.

The club haven’t put a timeline on his recovery, but we can safely say he’ll be sidelined for anything between six to nine months.

In a statement released at 5pm, the club said: “Further to being substituted with an injury during our match with Manchester United on Sunday, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

“Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme.

“We will continue to keep everyone updated with Gabby’s recovery, with everyone at the club fully focused on supporting Gabby to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

The news is a significant blow to the club, who were counting on Jesus for the second half of the season, and an even bigger one for the player, especially as he had just regained some form.

This marks the second major surgery Jesus has undergone since joining Arsenal, following a ligament operation on his other knee after an injury at the Qatar World Cup two years ago.

Here’s hoping Gabby’s surgery and recovery go smoothly, and we’ll see him back next season.

We don’t have a break do we.
Injuries all over the place, oppositions scoring 3 goals on 0.00001xg, our forwards failing to score on 99xg…
I mean, what are the odds of all this happening at the same time? ffs

Ebo

They should make a new stat, xUnx – expected unexpected, or to be precise the expected chance that things will go as unexpectedly badly as they possibly could. We’d win that one by a mile.

Add three dodgy red cards to the list and I’m amazed we are still 2nd in the league.

Andy

I have no idea what xg is and don’t really care tbh. How does it help us?

Alan Sunderland

Who are what decides xg? United had lower xg so what.Bruno’s a good player got a half chance and he buried it. Worse excuse in the history of excuses. If you have good forwards xg would never be mentioned.

David C

Sad it happened, but at least it’s during the transfer window.

Arsenal simply have to spend, no choice. Can’t just throw away the season.

Brazilian Gooner

How can you say that when we just leaked that we have an agreement with a DM for the next season???? (I mean, I hope that’s not their though leaking this right now)

Zet

Borrow Nketiah from Crystal Palace. They re not using him .

Alberto Balsam Mendez Rodriguez

Wow, this cannot be easy for Gabriel,
after the mountain he climbed from the last injury as well.

Gervinho is Driving

He clearly loves to play football.

hellsyeahhh

guys I figured it out – this is all my fault. I got Jesus into my fpl team last week and now he’s injured 😭
But in all seriousness gotta feel for him – really sad

Hi-brid

I think we all knew this from the moment he was stretchered off, didn’t we. Doesn’t make it any less gutting though. Get well Gabby.

Devastating news for Jesus, who looked fit for the first time in years. You could see the difference in his performances.

You have to admit that we are good at buying injury prone players though.

It’s nuts. Tomi, Cali, Tierney, Partey, Jesus, Merino, Zinny… so many games missed through injury. Does any other club come close?

Grab em Gab

But Partey was hardly injured during his time at Atleti and had like one or two absences in 4 years. I had commented at that time how after coming to Arsenal he’ll suddenly become injury prone, as there is something wrong on our side. Last year was an exception when it comes to injuries but we ran our best players to ground coupled with international duties, which must have angered injury gods! I don’t know what it is from our side, maybe the training routine, maybe the training ground, physio, maybe we keep the ball for too long inviting more… Read more »

It is the English game.

White.

It’s the law of averages. Other clubs are the same, we just don’t give two fucks about other clubs so pay no attention to it.

karl g

Mostly left backs that we’ve bought. The irony is that the best one is not injured and didn’t cost us a thing. MLS!

He’s got no hair but we don’t care...

Sending much love to Jesus.
Sending much ???? to why we’re linked with no one this month.

Scrubbychubby

Whole transfer market seems pretty much dead this month.

Rotten luck; wishing him a quick recovery

gooner

Wishing him a speedy recovery. Hopefully we can lift a trophy at the end of this weird season for him and everyone around the club.

Daveod

So why on earth are we going for zubimendi?

Tampa Jack

If we sign him in the summer (as reported) it will correspond with Partey and Jorgi’s contracts expiring. Makes sense to me.

Michael

Back in the good old days when every team kicked off on Saturday at 3pm there was none of this XG rubbish. Stuff the convenient “have a dig” stat and support the F**king team. People are sidetracked with the most pointless details that neither win or lose matches.

Notsolittlemozart

Damn this guy’s knees are cooked, feel for him. He might have a part to play in this team still but I feel we’ll end up letting him drift.

Ted

That bloody number 9 shirt.

Marvii

Jesus Fkn Christ man. Common!!!!!
💔💔💔💔
Hopefully this spurs (ew) some serious winter transfer pursuit
There’s no other choice is there??

Mark

Really feel for him, finally getting back to form and playing regularly. Now he will struggle to get into the team any time next Fall. The other issue for him and for Arsenal is any prospect of selling him this Summer is out the window now and we will be eating another high priced salary for a player not playing.

Matthinc

This feels so tragic for Jesus and for our season. Can’t imagine how shit he must be feeling just when he’d really opened the door for himself. I really hope he stays strong mentally cos its gonna be tough. And I hate to say it, but our season is over. Top 4 if we’re lucky.
