Arsenal’s academy winger Freya Godfrey will join Championship side London City Lionesses on loan for the remainder of the season. The 19-year-old has already enjoyed good loan spells with Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic.
Godfrey will join Gunners teammate Teyah Goldie, who is also on loan at LCL. LCL, owned by Lyon and Washington Spirit owner Michelle Kang, expressed an interest in taking Godfrey on loan early in the window but needed to make room in their squad since they were operating at the squad limit for the Championship.
This week, they came to a mutual agreement to part ways with Irish international Ruesha Littlejohn which has made space in the squad for the addition of Godfrey. Freya joined our youth academy at the age of 12 in 2018, working her way up through the age groups before making her first-team debut as a substitute away at Brighton & Hove Albion on 10 May 2023.
Vivienne Lia has joined Southampton on loan during this window and Maddy Earl has gone to Sheffield United with Laila Harbert also expected to go out on loan during this window. A decision will be made on Katie Reid later in the window once Amanda Ilestedt has completed her rehab after nearly a year out on maternity leave.

Good news! Wishing Freya Godfrey a successful and enjoyable loan spell. What a great team to join and she has a mate there already.
