Arsenal finished in third place in the gigantic Champions League group stage table after a 2-1 win over Girona this evening.
The home side took the lead through Danjuma, before Jorginho equalised from the spot after Thomas Partey had been fouled. Ethan Nwaneri then fired us ahead with a superb finish to go in a goal up at the break.
In the second half, Girona had a goal disallowed for offside (as Arsenal did in the first half), and Raheem Sterling missed a late penalty which would have added some gloss to the scoreline. However, the win ensured we qualify in the top 8, and avoid a knock-out round.
Here’s how the players rated this evening.

Brilliant way to finish this stage. We can take any of the four possibles in the next round.
Considering the players rested for Sunday, an OK performance. Which was pretty much as planned. Nwaneri stood out again, and Stirling missed another chance to prove his worth.
Overall, objective Achieved. On to the weekend and City.
I love my mom
Good lad.
Made me think of the 69 today meme
My milkshake brings all the tears to the yard… Wait, what!?!
Haha
Howard Webb shud turn up to the odd European game and watch a bit of professional officiating.
No fuss or bias on the pitch and correct use of VAR.
And I’m sorry….. Raheem was diving and the ref booked him.
I’ve no issue with that, even tho I’m a rabid Arsenal fan.
I don’t think it was a dive or a pen. Small contact can knock you off balance when you’re running but it’s not always a pen
Sterling was largely useless on the night, but it wasn’t a dive. There was contact, just not enough for a pen but enough to knock him off his feet.
Unlike the Girona player who threw himself to the floor in our box and but simply got a wave from the ref with no card???
I don’t think it was a penalty, but he felt contact and went down easily. If that gets you a yellow card, then Serie A matches must regularly finish with 9 a side.
Anthony Gordon wouldn’t finish a single match if that got you a yellow in the prem
If he played for Arsenal he’d get a red for that ; it’s Arsenal so it’s the letter of the law u know
ylu Have won the internet today
Ya all decent , Norbert didn’t do anything to inspire confidence but at times looked good.
Can’t wait for Benji to come back, midfield nice enough as you say be great if Merino could get run of games but that’s competition.
Ethan out kid what a player, let’s do it again the weekend .
Tross was good and I’d start him on the left v 115
Gosh I love these Hale End ballers. What a beautiful finish. Bring on those city cunts! Oh and hope they get absolutely dicked on in the (well avoided by the Arsen) round by Madrid or Munich. Well done lads.
al
Merino did a fantastic through pass to Martinelli right at the end. Wish he’d do more of that rather than receiving the ball, stopping, spinning on the spot then passing back to the player that passed to him
Nwaneri’s Goal!! Beautiful!!
He’s the RAM
Kai was trying some stuff when he came on, stuff I’m not sure if I’ve yet seen him try. Like actually taking his man on from the wing and shooting around him Saka-style. It didn’t come off this time but looked dangerous, hope he continues to have that sort of cheeky courage to try things.
What’s the point of sterling?
Well, it’s the main currency for the UK, name derived from a pound weight of early Anglo-Saxon silver coins.
If you’re talking about the player in the context of this Arsenal team, very little. I guess he offers some amount of rest for Martinelli, Trossard, Havertz and Nwaneri.
And the pound sterling changed very little in value between 1700 and 1900. The Raheem Sterling however decreases every day.
he did eat minutes today so there is that
So far the biggest positive of Sterling is the laugh I just got from seeing the Radio Raheem image above. If only he would do the right thing on the pitch.
Blogs, very subtle something that puts you at about my same age…
Don’t know. He gives off a vibe of “oh there’s nothing serious here. We’re not playing for anything. I’m just gon run around a bit now”
I think someone needs to slap off the Chelski in him fr
Great result. Holy moly, Sterling is poop.
I just pray we never have to rely on Sterling for key games. Kiwior also was beaten on the back post for their second goal which was fortunately called back for offside.
That was embarrassing from NETO. Please bring Raya back in a hurry…
What is it with Blogs and Thomas??? Blames him for the chasm behind the step-up which left the space for Denjuma when all Partey (and Kiwior) did was to step up… CORRECTLY. It was the beloved Big Gabi (who gets a 7 incidentally) who ignored the step-up and played Denjuma onside. And no mention made of the hapless Neto’s deciding he needed to go to the loo and wandering halfway up the pitch into no-man’s land?? Blogs also criticises Kiwior for that goal – when he and Partey played it by the book and Gabi failed to stay in sync.… Read more »
Kiwior was poor, Calafiori was poor, Partey was poor, the keeper was poor. Collectively it was a bad goal, I didn’t blame it all on one man.
Ethan truly is the proof of the adage ‘if you’re good enough, you’re old enough’
The Neto attempted save was hilarious.
How efficient was Euro VAR! Quick decisive decision making with clear graphics without stupid lines drawn by questionable officials.
