Arsenal are in Carabao Cup action this evening, taking on Newcastle at the Emirates in the first leg of our semi-final.
Here are the official line-ups.
Arsenal: Raya, Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly, Partey, Rice, Odegaard, Martinelli, Trossard, Havertz
Subs: Porter, Kiwior, Zinchenko, Tierney, Jorginho, Calafiori, Merino, Sterling, Jesus
Newcastle: Dubravka, Botman, Joelinton, Tonali, Gordo, Isak, Hall, Livramento, Murphy, Willock, Burn
Subs: Odysseas, Trippier, Barnes, Targett, Osula, Almiron, Kelly, Longstaff, Miley
I like it.
Love to see 4 left backs on the bench!!
And no right winger or number nine…
This was what I would have wished for except Jesus in for Trossard.
I wish we’d see more of Jesus on the right. By my recollection he’s always done well there.
Totally agree. Jesus on the right and I am fine with the line up. I hope it’s Trossard on the right and not Martinelli. Marti has not been able to show his full potential down the right.
We go for it full blast! COYG!!!
Delighted Arteta has picked strong team. Need a good result tonight and we will come through in second leg. I would have played Jesus on left and Trossard on bench. He’s great impact player not good starter.
Better options from the bench than against Brighton too, assuming none of them are actually sick.
And he sure moans about being a super sub.😀
Solid XI given what’s available. 2-0 to us.
Oops
lol!
So ready to whoop the barcodes asses
COYG!
Considering the season we’ve had with injuries, that is a bloody good team and the bench isn’t bad either.
Just like that, the first 11 and bench look much better
Gordo is the new Italian winger, only 18 years old looks a bit like a foot.
he’s good though
Are we relieved to see Stirling back on the bench? At least is some kind of option…?
Pretty much where I am. I have no idea at this point if he’s ever going to contribute much. But at least he’s an experienced option. We’re basically a couple of injuries/illnesses away from having to field untested U-18 attackers.
I hope he comes on at LW if he plays. It’s where he’s played best across his career. Right wing is probably his weakest position after LW, false 9 (played there semi-regularly when Agüero was injured), and #10 where he has played for Liverpool and England.
Much better lineup. 👏 👏 👏
Let’s send these chavvy northerners back home with their inbred tails between their legs!
COYG!!!
no need
O, reason not the need! Our basest beggars are in the poorest thing superfluous. Allow not nature more than nature needs, man’s life is cheap as beast’s.
Lear in an Arsenal blog. Fantastic.
Oh there’s every need.
Strong line up. Let’s smash them.
I dislike dan burn, a human(?) who exists purely to prevent more talented players from playing the game.
he was excellent tonight. better than saliba or big gabby
Excited for the game ahead! Hoping that Odegaard can cope with the intensity of the Newcastle trio in midfield.
he couldn’t
Let’s beat them silly, Reds. COYG!!!!!
Stop Gordon you will stop Isak.
Strong lineup against a strong opponent.
Bring it on!
As strong a lineup as we can field right now, just hope that we aren’t relying on Sterling to change the game.
I hope he comes on and does. We need everyone firing right now. Especially those who can play on the right side of attack.
Might be.
We don’t know if these players are 95% fit or 65%
I will be delighted if we put in a strong performance over 90 mins
Easy to understand why Jesus is benched for this one. The TineSiders are quite physical and GJ is kinda easy to bully and for some reason refs tend to ignore his completely valid protests
A sloppy goal to concede. We look ponderous and lethargic. If only we can move the ball quicker esp in the final 3rd. The only time we did, martinelli would have scored but for the upright. I’d swap Trossard for Jesus for a bit more energy and urgency.
Poor finishing.
Poor defending.
I guess it can’t get worse.
Only bright spot is MLS playing like Rice should
No passion. No invention. 2 sloppy goals. This team need an urgent injection of energy is any shape or form. But frankly I don’t know how.
come on mate it’s not that bad you can see we’ve really been trying this second half. if anything our defence has unusually let us down
Thoroughly deserved lead for Newcastle – Isak a top class striker unlike the dross we have.
We need a striker so I expect a new right back or backup goalkeeper to be signed.
Another season of nothing awaits – as for the cup I can see a Newcastle – Liverpool final with Arteta trying to convince himself as much as everyone else that progress has been made..
thumbs up i agree.
Good game in the first half. Unlucky to be behind
Arsenal 1.96xG (0) – 0.90 xG (1) Newcastle
It’s even more frustrating than if Newcastle was dominating
Xg counts for nothing
What does to you then ? Possession and chances leading to a 2-0 defeat in a semi final ?
goals in the back of the net, the only stat that counts
then you must have forgotten how it’s like to be dominated. It sucks to lose, but to also play like you deserve to lose is even worse.
defintely
Striker needed in this January window. We should be 3-1 ahead at halftime
trossard as useful as a square peg in a round hole, will he be hooked, or will he redeem himself.
i’d say put baby jesus back in
Trossard on the right never worked.
Dominico Tedesco ruined our chances at the last euros with this idea
Finally
Wtf
Oh ffs play the u21s if nobody wants to fight for this game
I’ve officially lost patience with arteta now
Yes it’s his fault our players are missing chances and sleeping in our box /s
When you buy 1 striker in 5 years, yes it is his fault
Thats why you miss chances, its not rocket science
agree daveod
It was his decision to not sign a back up to Saka or sign a top class No 9 but he shouldn’t (but will) be responsible for this…
Another season of Arteta “progress” awaits.
I am starting to believe this is as far as he can take Arsenal – another opportunity for silverware denied us.
Arsenal just don’t have what it takes to be successful…
Let’s support the team till the final whistle, then argue about Arteta
I am quite happy doing what I fucking well want..
You don’t sound very happy
I’m not.
Arsenal’s XG is 2.65 – if you cannot convert that then you don’t deserve to win – Artera has been here five tears – he needs to start winning things. The signs that we need decent attacking depth have been clear for years – if he cannot address that he needs to go..
genuinely would have scored two tonight if i was playing. havertz, jesus, martinelli. simply shit
crowd really poor tonight. could only hear the newcastle lot
I love the Arsenal, and have been a fan since the late 90s, but have our fans always been this fickle? Wow, this is football, we live in a real world, you can’t win every game, win some, lose some, draw some, there is NO easy Premiership team, as good as we are I struggle to understand why some of our fans just expect us to walk through other teams like hot knife through butter, it doesn’t work like that, and each time we lose a game shouldn’t be the reason to bring out pitchforks calling for the players or… Read more »
exactly we really tried hard second half and made good chances the first half. our lads were shit on the night and newcatle really good all round. 0-3 at sandcastle and we’re in a final!
Very disappointing.
Does little to dispel the belief that Arsenal are bottlers…
Arsenal didn’t play bad at all, but they were painfully predictable. We need a goal scorer, it is beyond obvious we need a true striker. I’m all about shared responsibility and load but come on. We deemed Isak to be too expensive before he went to Newcastle despite knowing his quality and potential. We’d bite your arm off to pay that price for him now. Let’s stop kidding around and stop experimenting. Move Kai back to midfield where he is very, very good, and get a true striker. Mid trio or Ødegaard, Rice and Kai can feed a true striker… Read more »
A fifth left back signing it is then 😕
