Lewis-Skelly set for scan after knee injury worry

Mikel Arteta says that Myles Lewis-Skelly will need a scan on a knee injury he picked up in the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Speaking after the Gunners 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb, the Arsenal boss revealed the 18 year had initially thought there was nothing to worry about, but couldn’t finish yesterday’s training session.

“He jarred his knee in the game against Villa and thought he was OK,” said the Spaniard.

“But yesterday he wasn’t feeling right. He will have more tests tomorrow.”

It’s the latest concern in a season littered with injuries, not helped by the schedule which saw Arsenal play their 7th game in 21 days this evening. Arteta is already without Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, William Saliba, and Bukayo Saka, and while Riccardo Calafiori was back in the squad tonight, he trained for just 20 minutes yesterday.

Let’s keep everything crossed it’s nothing serious, but any complication may scupper Kieran Tierney’s chances of leaving this month after rumours emerged of his desire to secure a January departure.

Can you hear the drums Patino?

For fucks sake!

Mark

Crap, not another one. This has to be one of the worst years for injuries that I can remember.

croarse

ffs…hope it is not bad

Ebo

praying that it’s not… knees are rarely minor issues, but please please just this once, just this one kid as he’s establishing himself brilliantly in this league, spare him o’ cruel lord of injuries! Two weeks out, I’ll take it, but not months, not now!

Daithí

I don’t think it will be too bad. I was thinking during that game when smashing Rogers with his tackles, don’t hurt yourself. Rogers is no small player.

But I also loved him more for the way he out muscled him !! A few weeks his knee should be ok again.

I know there’s a lot of games but maybe we are over training the players as well. Someone has to be analyzing what’s going on.

Poor kid, hope he’s back soon. MLS, in a league of his own.

PeteyB

It’s a vicious cycle. Once a few players are out the remaining players get overloaded by necessity. I’m certain Arteta didnt plan to put so much onto MLS at such a young age. Same for Nwaneri. We all were clamouring for him to get more game time, but as soon as circumstances forced MA’s hand he picked up some muscular niggles.

and as much as I think we’ve had no luck, we are by no means the only team struggling this year. But so far LIverpool have had the luck.

With the games coming thick and fast, there’s little opportunity for hard training. They need rest and recovery between games just to be refreshed to play.

Well if he needs an operation then you really do know that we are totally jinxed for this season.

It’s almost beggars belief..

Adam

No joke. I would consider Tierney until miles and Cala are fit afain

Roy

What’s with this “the Spaniard” stuff?

ChickPEA

I think Arteta might be Spanish.

This season can honestly just fuck right off

Sean

If I could sum up the 2024/25 season in a few words- Don’t start to enjoy something. You’ll only wind up disappointed.

Omaha ill

Are the injuries anything to do with the pitch and the plastic weave under the grass? Or just to do with players running a hard 10k every few days

Geefive

Hope its not too serious and we have him back soon. Glad Tierney isn’t leaving til summer. Maybe we should hold onto Zinky til then as well.
