Maddy Earl signs first professional contract for Arsenal Women

Arsenal academy midfielder Maddy Earl has signed her first professional contract with the club. Maddy turned 18 in November which means she is now permitted to sign professional terms.

Earl spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Championship side Bristol City but has now returned to Arsenal after making five appearances in the Southwest. Earl joined the club in 2015 as an eight-year-old.

“Signing my first professional contract with Arsenal, my childhood club, is such an honour and a privilege,” said Maddy. “Arsenal feels like home and to be able to continue my development here is incredible. Growing up in the academy, I had the opportunity to learn from some wonderful role models and get regular exposure to playing with first-team players. I’m so grateful for that journey and excited to continue working hard for the future.”

Head of Player Development James Honeyman added: “Maddy has been a key part of our academy set-up and we’re so proud of her journey and the steps she has taken to begin her transition to the senior environment. We’re all looking forward to supporting Maddy as she continues her development in the game.”

Director of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “We’re thrilled to see another young player progress through our academy to sign professional terms with us. Maddy has a great foundation to build on and through hard work and commitment, she can continue to grow and develop as a player as she embarks on her professional career.”

What position does she play ?

Shocked Gooner

Viv Lia turned 18 a few months ago but nothing has been said about her signing a contract. Will she sign, or will she go to another club?

Chrishgooner52

As Viv Lia is still very much on the first team training scene and appears on a recent Arsenal in the Community video in which she is referred to as a professional footballer I’d guess she has signed something but whether she is following Lotte
and Lessi down the US college pathway may be the reason for not announcing anything.
