Nwaneri set for a ‘few weeks’ on the sidelines

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Ethan Nwaneri is set to spend a ‘few weeks’ on the sidelines after picking up an injury during the 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday evening.

The 17 year old started his second Premier League game in succession, and scored a fine goal to put the Gunners 1-0 up. He was replaced at half-time by Gabriel Martinelli, with many believing the late yellow card he’d received from Anthony Taylor the reason for his removal, but it was revealed afterwards it was due to injury.

“Unfortunately he has picked up an injury and is going to be out for a few weeks. It’s a muscular injury,” said the Arsenal boss.

“He didn’t really know [what the injury was] to be fair. So he said: ‘I am feeling something, I don’t know what is it?’

“Obviously he has earned the right to step up and play for us. And now he has started some big games as well and impacted those games that he has done, in different positions as well.

“So yeah, I am gutted for him because that is going to stop a little bit. But it is another step in that development phase that he is in. I have been really happy with the way he has been going.”

With Bukayo Saka out of action for the foreseeable future, and with Raheem Sterling also missing due to a knee problem, yet another injury has come at the worst possible time for Arsenal, with a hectic January schedule and games across all four competitions.

It will increase the pressure for the club to be active in the transfer market as soon as possible, and Arteta also revealed there are members of the squad still suffering from illness – including Kai Havertz who has missed the last two games.

It makes tomorrow evening’s Carabao Cup semi-final with Newcastle even more challenging.

Oh ffs…this season really is in the bottom 5% percentile for outcomes. All the luck we’ve accumulated for the past 2 seasons have come to roost

Eternal Titi Berg Pat Nostalgia

Under Wenger, it looked like this almost every year therefore it is not the 5% percentile. We did not win the league but achieved top four or even finished second.

Winterburns Right Wand

That’s still a trophy. 👊

Ash

We can use Zinchenko on the left hand attacking side, and rotate Trossard/Gabriel. Or use Zhinchenko on the right as inverted forward.
Similarly, Tierney can be used on the left as a pure winger like he played for Scotland.
We are not utilising the bench enough, its like the same 14 players will play till they are injured. Most bench players are just there to make up the numbers

Johnny 4 Hats

Pfft. Just when Ethan had restored my excitement about getting through this period without Saka.

Deflating.

Get well soon bruv.

karl g

What a shame with opportunities at a premium with Saka and Odegaard guaranteed starters normally.

Johnny 4 Hats

It really is.

But we have to remember this is a lad with his whole career in front of him.

If he’s injured then we just need to be totally patient and ease him back.

I couldn’t bare to see what happened to Jack happen to Ethan.

Ealing

bear, rather, could not bare means, you could not drop your pants lol

Johnny 4 Hats

Oh, thanks for the correction. I must’ve been getting that wrong forever.

“OH MY GOD, THERE’S A GREAT BIG GRIZZLY BARE!!!!”

Nailed it. Thanks again!

Sephirothevic

Or the forwards’ cupboard is bare.

We shouldn’t panic buy in January, unless we get the right player, for the right price which is highly unlikely. We should get 2, or at the very least 1 attacking/creative player on a short term loan till the end of the season.

Pigaroulettes

I think we could get one of the wingers from Real Madrid on loan. We showed with Ceballos and Odegaard that we can truly develop players and help them reach new levels.

They struggle to find playing time for Guller and Diaz. And Endrick is not playing at all.

FMT

Unfortunately, we don’t ‘have’ a Sporting Director

The best way to avoid panic buying in January is to do proper business in the summer. Although they are now at crisis levels (relatively speaking), the gaps we are seeing now were visible in June.

Credit to Blogs for laying out multiple times in the past week what should be an uncontroversial point – if we are serious about a title push, reinforcements are needed. At 20 years without a title, asking the club to put its money where its PR is is more than fair.

Brazilian Gooner

We need to sign an attacker, even if it is a stop gap, we simply don’t have the numbers, this is the time where we have to show ambition even if it means overpaying

New Jack Wilshere

Not cool Appelsnemahhfjf

Oh lighten up. His first injury. Obviously it’s a joke

Ramsay, Diaby, Jack, they’ve all left scars dude.. sorry for missing the humour

Don’t forget Eduardo, Santi, Rosicky, Frimpong…

Get well soon little guy! Thanks for the courage you’ve shown!

Is it Razza’s time to shine for The Arsenal ?

Vonnie

Hopefully.

Sephirothevic

I’ve wanted him to do well, even with Chelski. Obviously I hope he does way better with us, à la Kai. It took him a while to get de-chelsified.

ScotchEggsRule

Some stains are very stubborn to remove, especially of the Chav variety. Havertz is officially ‘clean’ 🙂

Qwaliteee

That’ll be a few months then. This season is becoming a fucking farce in terms of our luck. What next I wonder? Raya slips on some black ice outside his front door and breaks both hands? Mikel Arteta estimates his absence will be ‘a few seasons’ Odegaard trips over baby Odegaard’s teddy bear and does his cruciate. Mrs Odegaard estimates that hubby can now get on with feeding baby O on a more permanent basis. Saliba is spotted by the ref getting off the team bus and walking through the entrance at the Emirates. To save time, the ref gives… Read more »

The only part of this that seems completely improbable is Martin Odegaard breastfeeding his newborn, and even that is technically possible with some medical intervention.

Dani Omo? Not that I want to help out Barca but if he can’t play for them for the rest of the year we could use him. I know it can’t be just a loan for some adminsitrative reason but worht a shot.

Get him in.

Dani Olmo and Ruud vN step into the Emirates. Arteta says, “Why the long faces?”.

Scrubbychubby

Makes an awful lot of sense for all parties.

A different George

It won’t happen, but if it did, it wouldn’t help Barca. They can’t get a loan fee for him because he is not their player.

El Mintero

Another Trossard-esque January addition would be very beneficial. When he joined us mid-season he made a fantastic impact immediately. We need another one of those.
