Renee Slegers has rung the changes for Arsenal’s Subway Cup Quarter-Final away at Brighton this evening, with Zinsberger, Wubben-Moy, Codina, Walti, Kafaji and Reid all coming into the team.
Manu Zinsberger starts in goal with Katie Reid at right-back ahead of Laura Wienroither, a situation that is beginning to look a little ominous. Wubben-Moy and Codina start at centre-half with Katie McCabe captaining the side from left-back.
Lia Walti and Kyra Cooney-Cross play in the midfield double pivot with Mead on the right, Kafaji on the left and Maanum as the 10. Alessia Russo starts upfront.
1.Zinsberger; 62.Reid, 3.Wubben-Moy, 5.L.Codina, 11.McCabe(c); 13.Walti, 32.Cooney-Cross; 9.Mead, 12.L.Maanum, 16.Kafaji; 23.Russo
Subs: 2.Fox, 6.Williamson, 7.Catley, 8.Mariona, 10.Little, 14.van Domselaar, 19.Foord, 25.Blackstenius, 26.Wienroither
That lineup is almost exactly what I envisaged except that I thought Stina would start because of the Kafaji link-up.
Good luck, girls!
Really looking forward to the game, interesting selections. It does make me wonder about the immediate future for Katie Reid. She’s clearly trusted by Renée and is already a fan favourite. For her development, you feel a loan where she can get regular minutes would be good…but where? She’s had a season at Watford where they were relegated from the Championship; she needs something better than that. Is there a WSL team with a good manager who can help her development? What do others think?
It’s interesting that she is being selected ahead of Laura. Renee sees something that we’re not privvy to. Perhaps Laura still has ACL after effects or perhaps she is not a Renee favourite. Personally I’d like to see Katie stay and deputise for Emily as she seems up to the job and is trusted to do so by the coach. I can see Laura moving on in the summer anyway. Just as she thought Noelle was out of the way in comes Emily! Now an 18 year-old is being selected in preference.
Laura was ‘still in the building and training’ when Renee was asked about her in last press conference.
A last minute loan move/transfer wouldn’t come as a major surprise.
Well, we don’t know what’s going on in training, nor what’s going on in the coach’s head.
