Report: Havertz suffers hamstring ‘scare’

Hats off to Sami Mokbel who has broken another Arsenal injury story today, reporting that Kai Havertz suffered a hamstring ‘scare’ on the warm weather trip to Dubai. This comes after his reporting on Takehiro Tomiyasu potentially needing surgery to correct a knee issue which has kept him out of the squad for most of the season.

The prognosis is not yet known, and hopefully it’s nothing serious, but coming just days after Gabriel Martinelli was ruled out for at least a month due to a hamstring strain of his own, it’s hard not to worry.

If the German international is absent for any period, it would leave Mikel Arteta with just Leandro Trossard and Raheem Sterling as available senior attacking options, with Ethan Nwaneri the remaining candidate to fill out a front three.

Bukayo Saka is back in training, but still some way from a comeback after hamstring surgery, while Gabriel Jesus is sidelined for the foreseeable future after an ACL rupture in January.

The Gunners have been beset by injury this season, and another problem sustained after no additions were made in the January window will raise more questions about that decision.

For now, let’s wait and see, and keep everything crossed it’s not a bad one for our leading goalscorer.

You really couldn’t make this up.

Amb

Hope they have

Alberto Balsam Mendez Rodriguez

He writes for the mail, so there’s a decent chance.

SLC Gooner

Well, unfortunately, pretty much you could. Everyone and their brother were concerned about this risk with the transfer window being empty. Not as if this was a surprise.

Grump

The absolute state of this club. The manager and players asking on national TV for reinforcements, and Josh, Tim and Stan basically tell them to get stuffed.

RIP 2024/25 season. Utterly farcical.

Grump

Loving the downvotes for stating the obvious. Our front three is Sterling, Trossard and Nwaneri for at least a month. We did nothing to reinforce our squad and look what’s happened. Top 4 is at risk and Champions League is over.

karl g

It’s always the same if someone says something negative about the team, so not just you.

Bleeding gums Murphy

No it’s not. The season isn’t over. Leicester won the league a few years back and Chelsea won the champions league with a poor team who were incredibly lucky. The downvotes is for a statement that’s not necessarily true.

TexasRed

No, that’s not it at all. I downvoted because Grump, who lives up to his name, made statements that he has absolutely no basis or evidence for. Do you really think Arsenal ownership sat on their hands and made no attempts to sign help in January? Where’s the evidence of that? Everything I’ve seen indicates the opposite. But who was available in January who we could sign and who would actually help the club? I have not heard of anyone who fits that description. Sesko and Isak were not moving. Watkins was a possibility, but Villa were not going to… Read more »

Ben Swain

January wasn’t the problem though. Signing the wrong player in January to paper over the cracks honestly wasn’t the answer. The issue was pissing about in the summer in my opinion

Ben Swain

You also say “for at least a month”. You’ve clearly got better contacts than all the journalists, because everything I’ve read has said he’s not even been assessed yet

Ashburton Patriot

Season not over but 100% agree that the Jan window was a joke Ayto being praised for his patient and considered approach… rubbish.
He failed to consider what would happen if we got even more injuries… why does it feel like this club has this massive complex about signing good forwards. Whenever someone looks like a good option, I just know we ain’t getting them

Johnno

Always been the way. All the fans that can to us in the first 10 years of Wenger than think that is Arsenal. I pity them. This is Arsenal. Always a dollar short or a day late. I will say that my biggest concern is the misalignment between club and Arteta. He plays high press football. He likes a narrow range in player ability (ie all or similar quality) and won’t play or coach to lesser players. The club have set the financial boundaries. And yet he pursues 4 trophies. He should have played the kids in the carabao and… Read more »

Somewhere in London Colney, a whimpering Jason Ayto is violently rocking backwards and forwards in a bath tub

Baichung Bhutia

Think he is in Dubai with the team. Maybe he is trying to sign the Burj Khalifa to play up top.

Ebo

Good in the air for sure, but lacking a bit in mobility. You’d really need to nail that cross right onto his head, at which point hopefully Tom Cruise will be there to nod it home.

Serpent

I’d be hiding behind it or beneath it if I was him…

karl g

Still glad they didn’t waste money on a player that would compromise who we really want in the summer. Ollie Watkins didn’t feel like the solution really. Anyway, we’d need quite a few players at the current rate of injuries.

Fezec

Mad take while the window was open and even more crazy now if Kai is out. This was so predictable. We have based the rest of our season hoping that; 1. Kai doesn’t get injured 2. Bukayo has a set-back free return at the quickest predicted timeframe 3. An attack that has struggled to flourish, somehow finds enough goals to overhaul a team with a 6 point (9?) lead. The chances of all those outcomes coming to fruition must’ve been in single figure percentage. We need an absolute miracle if we are to win anything from here. I dint spend… Read more »

Fabregasted

Tel came in and scored in his first game for sp*rs.

Dial square

Yeah, and watched them get knocked out of two cup competitions in a week..

Absolut

Please, no. Not Kai. This is getting beyond ridiculous.

Gooner49

This was not the point of going to Dubai!

Serpent

This is what happens when you don’t have a deep enough squad and overplay the players that produce any goals. They break, eventually. I mean, it was a miracle that Xhaka didn’t pull a hamstring in his last season…

The board should take a lot of blame, but the thing is that our coaches haven’t been able to get anything out of a lot of our players. Sterling hasn’t looked close to any kind of form, Martinelli has had a difficult season and Jesus was smashing goals in…for two games against Palace.

Tierney as false left wingback, anyone?

karl g

Too many tedious internationals have filled the summer months. Players need some rest to get through a long season.

dinosauras

and the first 3 months of the prem season! how many useless minutes did they all have to play? what the fuck is a nations league?!?

Frosty

MLS right wing, Trossard centre, Nwaneri left.

Personface

Football positions or political leaning?

Earlcourt

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ben Swain

If he’s out for any long period, it’s genuinely season over. I actually don’t think signing someone in January if we couldn’t get the right player was the answer, but it’s our chickens coming home to roost for a couple of terrible summers recruitment forward wise

espen

Calafiori striker, problem solved.

Timb

Well… Sterling has got some time to mentally prepare for a run in the team! He will get a chance in his favoured position LW with Trossard through the middle and Nwaneri off the right. If there is one manager who I think can navigate a system around the personnel issues we have, it’s Arteta. Let’s see what he can galaxy brain!

Mark

Holy Fers, he is the one player along with Raya that we cannot afford to lose right now. If we lose him for any amount of time we can pretty much kiss goodbye any chance of the winning the league or the CL.

Kelv

Huge if true. Our season would be well and truly banjaxed. I can only hope this is Daily Heil clickbait.
