Arsenal U21s defender Zane Monlouis is reportedly closing in on a move to Toronto.
If the move, which is expected to be a permanent switch, goes ahead then it could prove to be beneficial for a player who has needed to make the step up to senior football for some time.
Monlouis has amassed over 70 appearances for Arsenal at U21 level and has been named on the bench twice for the first-team in the Champions League this season.
However, the centre-back’s chances of breaking into the squad appeared remote and it now seems likely that the 21-year-old will continue his development elsewhere.
Monlouis was very highly rated by Arsenal when he was younger and received high praise from then-U21 coach Steve Bould when he made his debut at that level.
In the second half of last season Monlouis joined Reading on loan but he made just one appearance before returning to Arsenal.
Monlouis has remained professional throughout his time with the U21s and has offered guidance to some of the younger players that he has featured alongside.
Should Monlouis depart then it appears that there will be more opportunities at U21 level for the likes of Brayden Clarke and talented schoolboy Marli Salmon.

Cheers Jeorge, do Arsenal get a transfer fee of any kind?
Reports have suggested that it will be a free transfer.
Seems an interesting opportunity for him, he really needs to be playing regularly. It’s nice to see Academy graduates being open to new countries and experiences, I hope it works out well for him. All the very best Zane!
Zane, please conside staying on the plane for a few hours longer. Vancouver is much nicer than Toronto.
Too much travel playing for Vancouver. We’ve got him in Toronto now! 🙂
Lucky bastards.
I lived in Toronto for six months. This was many moons ago when I hadn’t yet run for Mayor of McDonaldland. Anyway, I drank and watched games at a divey little pub called the Duke of Gloucester on Yonge Street. They kept the lights low so you wouldn’t see the dirt. My kind of place. They’re pretty mad about ‘soccer’ in TO, largely on account of a very healthy population of Italian and Portuguese immigrants!
How did they pronounce “Gloucester?”
The right way, actually, but this is a Commonwealth nation we’re talking about. The same pub in the U.S. would be called Glue Kester.
Off topic, but the Phlegm Spouters have dropped two more points tonight against Villa.
Every little helps….
Could have been 9 points difference. Was 7, now 8 and by Sunday could be 5. I had to take my socks off, to work that lot out!!
Good ‘innit…? We JUST need to keep cool heads and concentrate on US. Three points against West Ham is all that matters. (For now….) All jokes aside, I’m in that horrible place of taking myself to task for even beginning to think about what (at the moment at least) would be a fucking miracle. But I’ll say this now, loud and proud. If it happens, it’ll be the sweetest fucking miracle since Anfield ‘89. ‘Anfield ‘25’…? (The game where we more or less seal the deal) It’s got a kind of a ring to it, don’t you think? Listen, after… Read more »
Be zen, mon Louis.

Well, Toronto FC needs all the help it can get, that’s for sure.
