Santi Cazorla has shed light on the backing he received from his teammates in the Spanish national team when he confirmed he’d be leaving Malaga for Arsenal in the summer.
Speaking ahead of the first-leg of the Gunners Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, the 28-year-old admitted that he was told by both former Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas and several other Premier League-based stars that he’d definitely enjoy his adventure in England.
“Yes of course, they helped me a lot, above all Fabregas,” Cazorla told UEFA.com.
“Cesc was at this club for a long time, he was an icon at the club and still is.
“Once I decided to sign for Arsenal then he, Pepe Reina, Juan Mata and David Silva said I would not have any regrets and would enjoy this adventure experiencing football in England.
Loved at the Emirates for his impish technical quality and cheeky demeanour, the diminutive midfielder also admitted that he’s been bowled over by the support of the fans.
“I’m very happy and I think they’ve been valuing me very highly here. People respect you a lot more, the Arsenal fans are very good and I’m happy about the affection they’ve showed me every day.
Expected to return to the starting line-up, having only featured as a sub against Blackburn at the weekend, Cazorla also noted that Arsenal’s passing philosophy has helped him adapt to life in London.
“Here I’m a second striker,” he continued. “It’s a position that puts me in contact with the ball a lot, but gives me the freedom I need to go seeking the right space. Honestly, it’s perfect for me – just the way I like playing.”

Even if I wasn’t biased against Shawcross for being a leg smashing orc, Ibrahimovic showed just how average a defender he is in the Sweden v England game… No thanks. Gareth Bale has become a quality player, but he’s still a divey spud and sp*rs would never sell him to us anyway. Ibra is earning the big bucks in Paris, which leaves David Villa as the only real option and he’s going to be a couple of years into his 30s by the time we’d be able to get him and we know the club’s policy for that situation.
