Sagna: We don’t want to let down the boss

Bacary Sagna says a desire to repay Arsene Wenger’s faith is driving the Arsenal squad to new heights as they look to end a trophy drought that has taken it’s toll on the Frenchman’s reputation.

Having been at the club since 2007, a period in which the club has flirted with a drop out of the top four, the 30-year-old right-back made clear that he and his teammates owe silverware not just to the fans but to their long-standing coach.

“He [Wenger] has faith in us and that transmits to us,” Sagna is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard.

“Every time I lose a game I feel bad because he trusts us. When you do not give something back when someone trusts you, it is quite embarrassing.

“If we win, it is for the players and the supporters but for the manager as well because we have let him down for a few years and he deserves to recognised as one of the best.”

Sitting top of the Premier League and still in the mix in both the Champions League and the FA Cup, Sagna touched on the newfound belief that has permeated the club.

“I can feel a difference this season. We are more focused and no one scares us. We were not missing a lot to win a trophy but we did miss something. We lost the first game of the season against Aston Villa but there were never any doubts in the team.

“We have great quality and we can beat anyone this season,” he continued.

“Teams are scared about us because they know we can make their life difficult on the pitch. We want everyone to be talking about us at the end of the season, saying we were the best team and deserved to win the title.

“Right now, we just want to stay focused. Every team will drop points but we are in a very good position.”

Let’s hope the recent upturn in Arsenal’s fortunes persuades Sagna that his future belongs at the Emirates. As the boss remarked this morning, he doesn’t doubt his compatriot’s commitment to the cause but nor has a new contract extension been agreed.

It’s a saga that has been running for quite some time now…

Give the man whatever he wants.

Give this man any contract he wants, this team is almost complete and we cannot lose him.

godonner

What a servant he has being for arsenal both Wenger and sagna

GUN

Sign that contract, please.

Pooner

The man’s made of sturdy stuff! SIGN HIM UP!

Rectum_Spectrum

with sagna you’re essentially getting two people in one there squeezed into those thighs, so dividing his contract by 2 shows the real value.

The lost sleeves of Mathieu Flamini

As a trusted servant who’s stuck with us through the hard times, his loyalty should be rewarded. He must have had opportunities to go elsewhere over the years when we have not been ‘competitive’. Would be a great shame to lose a key, experienced component of our solid defence when we are on the cusp of being able to achieve something great again. Sign him up Boss!

The only Olivier is Giroud

This season it feels like there’s more than just top4 and CL revenue at stake. Surely he’ll stay on if we win the League? Hard to imagine him going “Been here since ’07, finally won something, okay I’m off”. Same goes for Wenger himself. Things are at long last taking shape, we signed Özil, Theo stayed on last season, Ramsey has turned into the machine Wenger knew he’d become… come on you Gunners!

indiangooner

Is that special media conference over already? ?

Pebbles Berlin (@PebblesBerlin)

We can’t lose him now. And certainly not to Man City. I love Jenko but he is not there yet. Any other right back is going to take time to bed in. We want to win big this season and next. I know signing up an older player on a long contract is not a money spinner, but we don’t need to worry about that so much. But maybe Bac has decided to go? Disappointed as recently Wegner said he was close.

No turning Bakary! He should Sagna a bumper contract immediately!

Honestly, I’m starting to lean towards thinking that Wenger’s not signing a new deal. Why would he keep on saying that he is “fully commited”? He used the same phrase when talking about Sagnas contract situation. Why would he keep on answering a bit aggressively when asked about the situation? Why would he say that he has decided already, but not say his decision, he’s got a contract on the table remember? He said in Nov/Dec-ish that he was expecting a solution around new year? He’s been playing mind games too long now, and it’s worrying me… I feel empty… Read more »

He’s been saying the same thing for years, whenever it’s time for a new contract. I wouldn’t read anything into it 🙂

Domii

I don’t know about that but I have the same feeling, that sth might be going on behind the curtain, which will not result in AW signing a new contract.. I know it’s a stretch and I don’t want it to happen by all means, but I had an idea that he might be going to Barca.. It seems that Martino is not a coach that they think they deserve in Barca and probably he will go, and I think that they would really want someone like Wenger as he would fit their philosophy perfectly. It might be his last… Read more »

It speaks volumes that despite any contract wrangles and not able to strike a deal that suits him and the club, he still talks in terms of loyalty to Le Boss and what he feels he owes to Arsenal as a whole from the fans to the very name of the club. He could very easily have thrown his toys out of the pram and made the whole thing acrimonious like some before him, those who eventually signed and those who didn’t. His humility and attitude is an example to all who don the famous red and white currently and… Read more »

Deserves an lot more than he earns now.
Especially so looking at the lengh of time hes been with us and the quality performances he puts in more often than not.
Lets not loose another important player to a rival AGAIN.

Shay

I hear UTD are offering good old two bungs Ronny 300k a week, a say in the transfers, and a lifetime offer at Bingo. If he can get that then surely Bac deserves another 20k more on his wages. C’mon Wenger get it done.

Gooner_Chica

We dont want to let youuuuuu down Sagna! I cant fathom why we haven’t given this man a new deal? Managed to get back to health after two broken legs! who does that I mean seriously? That wouldn’t have just been a physical injury he would have suffered mentally.

£80k and 3 years. The equivalent of buying a BMW, will last for ages and really its money well spent in the long run

therewillbebears

You do realise that’s the equivalent of buying a BMW every week, right?

Gooner_Chica

I meant the equivalent for the average joe buying a car even though it may seem like a a lot it will serve you in the long run.

I see the literal police are on patrol

Ryan tan

Jenkinson looks ready to me.despite a few blunders,he has nv fail to impress going forward.

NewUser

Would really really and I mean really, love to see Sagna lifting a trophy come the end of the season.

And would also love to see Sagna with a new haricut. (Not that the one he’s been carrying for ages is bad)

NewUser

Fuck it.. *Haircut* and *New comment – not a reply* – Sorry folks!

NewUser

*HAIRSTYLE* – Arrggghhhhhhh.. I give up. I’ll go now and hit my face over the counter.

Pebbles Berlin (@PebblesBerlin)

He’s great going forward. It’s the deer in the headlights thing and his positioning sometimes that scare me. He still has some tricks to learn and I feel a PL loan would be good – provided he played.

TURF

Pliiiiiiiiiiiiiz sign the Contract, For the boss

Trex d' Gunner

The most consistent Arsenal player in the last couple of years. His patience and loyalty to the club when others buggered-off for a bigger pay day is nothing short of legendary. It would be madness to let him go.

Lasagna

It will be far more expensive to find a similar RB as Sagna than to give him what he wants.

Johnny 99

What everyone said, just give him what he wants.

the_alchemist

Bacary Sign now?

loose_cannon

If he doesn’t want to let the boss down, then he should sign da ting! (urgh, never thought I’d ever have to type THAT again…)

The Ox is a fox

Perhaps, he waits until the end of the season. If we win the league or CL, then he’ll sign on feeling having done the boss proud. If we finish empty-handed, he’ll feel too embarrassed to stay longer.

Duby

When will this Sag(n)a’s saga end?

layksite

against villa at emirates, he gave everything. started at right back, moved to left back and almost gave his life trying to win the ball in the air. bac play with his heart always.

pls give him whatever he wants.

MTZ

While I understand the whole “give him what he wants” thing (as he’s one of our most consistent players), let’s put things in perspective: We don’t want to end up like United where Rooney has way too much influence.

If he’s getting offered £200.000 a week by City or PSG or whatever, we have to hope he ends up staying out of loyalty, because there’s no way we’re going to match that kind of pay.

muchadoaboutnot

Exactly! There is nothing more important in life than football.

The lost sleeves of Mathieu Flamini

We need a chant for Sagna, that’ll do it.

st clair finance

Am not just a arsenal fun or a supporter am a family of the gunners, the team is great going forward but to me all we need is one or two bully defenders to me dats wat we ar missing.as a footballer my self and attacking players like to no der is bully defenders to stop the other team an th arsenal of old was build on defence.look at th game with man city as Matthew came off der was no one bully them

muchadoaboutnot

It’s a thumbs down buddy until I get a proper translation in English.
