Arsenal 2-2 Swansea: player ratings

Have any of you considered what a chore it is to do player ratings after games like that? We only do it because we love you.

Here’s what we thought of the 2-2 draw with Swansea.

What a shitty fucking respond. Not acceptable at all that the players can’t put in a better performance after that last display and nowhere near acceptable that Wenger can’t motivate the team and set the right tactics to beat fucking Swansea at fucking home. Fucking.

But Kim looked quite good, so we got that going for us, which is nice

Rich

Response. Stopped reading after that.

Rich

Ok, now I have read the whole comment. Let’s response to City.

Fuck (repeat until fade).

When’s Ramsey back? Not had a respond in ages?

Arteta's hair

Sorry about that.

It’s kind of hard to proofread though, as my screen is so fucked up after receiving numerous headbutts on Saturday. Thus spelling errors will occurxenigjrgklwmoæg.

Rich

I am apologising sincerely. Maybe something tonight has really fucking pissed me off and I’m being very overly touchy.

I was embarrassed on Saturday, worthless on Tuesday; and I may now have to listen to Craig David to work out how it works out against city and Wigan. Ah!!!

Türkiş Gooner

Get a room guys 😀

raron aamsey

haha ryo

GoonTang

Kim…. Sign him up!

Benis

Imagine Kim feeding Theo on the run. Oh my. Make it permanent!

Remember the invincibles

Kim made a great pass to Giroud but naturally it got fucked up became it was Giroud

Mootilated

Why didn’t he try to finish it. I’ll never understand. If it was another top strike he would have tried to finesse it into the net. Bleh!!

Mootilated

*Striker

Gunnersaurus

Kim looked ace!

Probably the least appreciated of all our signings in recent years, everyone was crying out for a striker and we got *another* midfielder and one with a broken back at that! But as seems inevitable, 2 months down the line and our midfield is ravaged by injury and he stepped in to do a good job last night.

I say start him against City. It’ll be like that time they played David James up front against Boro, noone will know how to defend against him!

benvnc

In my opinion, Källström should be in the starting 11 ahead of Flamini and Arteta from the display he gave tonight. He’s showing a lot more pace, confidence and effort in taking the ball forward in comparison to Flamini and Arteta who, in recent matches, either pass back to defenders or give the ball away to the opposition. He made some sexy long distance passes too. Hope he starts against “Citeh” on Saturday. I think Wenger should have started Sanogo and put Giroud on when we were defending a lead. Also we didn’t defend the lead, we just took the… Read more »

Rich

Where can one start with de-constructing your analysis. Let’s start with your 1st sentence:

In my opinion, Källström should be in the starting 11 ahead of Flamini and Arteta

I don’t mean to sound mean. But………

benvnc

but what?

Rich

A complete unknown injury ridden last minute signing over our former captain and a sub who everyone knew should have started against Chelsea? And the Swede is only on loan here till May. Against Wigan? Would you rather him start?

I’ll never win, but I think 4th in the league and the FA cup is now our goal. And we will make it without rash changes; and some of my angry rash comments from before.

benvnc

He is an experienced player and has over 100 caps for Sweden, I wouldn’t call that “unknown”. And yes I think he should start over them because their performances aren’t exactly improving.

Cele

gave away the ball for the second.

skr

Think that was Podolski

Mpls

I was impressed by Kallstrom’s positioning, confidence slotting in, and forward passing distribution. Pace, not so sure yet.

Goonstein

Källström for president!!!

WizardOfOzil

The commentator’s pronouncement of Kallstrom’s name was very exotic, got me excited straight away.

WizardOfOzil

pronunciation even

Fireman Sam

Yeah kind of like “shalstrum”. However you pronounce it, the guy looked the real deal.

One of the few positives I can take from that performance.

@Blogs, bit harsh on Podolski there. His goal was good (quick reaction, not that easy – OG would have likely fluffed it) and his pass to make the second goal was sensational.

I’d always give Poldi a run out as he’s a skilled player and has much more accurate shooting boots than most of our forwards and more importantly he has this direct feisty quality about him (maybe driven by his bionic arse ;-).

abfp

Actually that is quite close to how it should be pronounced. Should be “shell-stram” with the a in stram being pronounced like the word “a”.

Regards,
Sweden

Gunning

Podolski’s off the ball antics are not very impressive. He body checked Bony in the box without even going for the ball. He picked a stupid yellow card against bayern for kicking the ball out of play. He acts like a thug sometimes but other than that we ought to have more faith in his finishing ability than Giroud.

Gunnersaurus

Yeah, he’s a lovable character off the pitch, but he does have some silly moments on it. He’s like the anti-Bendtner!

Henry

Have to disagree with some ratings…..

Sagna was tireless down the right and got very little help offensively, but was still a rock.

Originally a very class player, Arteta has no place in the side now; i used to think his intelligence and possession dictation was great, but now i just see a slow side/back passer with no real defensive or offensive ability. did ok today but ok is not good enough for arsenal. send him to segunda division at year end.

Rosicky, Bac, Poldi, Gibbs, and Santi the only DECENT performances today. won’t cut it.

Remember the invincibles

Rosicky was good I thought. Santi wasnt

Gunner From Another Mother

Rosicky sure tried hard, but his final ball was consistently poor. He was trying to make things happen but so many of his balls over the top were waaaaay too long. Not hating, as he may be my favorite player. But tonight wasn’t his night

Gunner From Another Mother

And he probably only looked decent because of the shitstorm going on around him…I’m a sad gooner. I need to sleep.

TJBgooner

For a final ball to be effective, it requires the recipient to make space, anticipate the pass and make a timed run. How often do we see that these days? Even when we do do it, we miss the chance, just like the Rosicky pass to Giroud versus the Chavs before they had scored. Rozza’s talents are wasted on the rest that is such a shame now he’s finally match fit.

Kallstrom'sBalls

How beautiful were we?!

Jesper

To everyone saying “Wenger out” after this: All Wenger’s subs were spot on. We’re probably (hopefully atleast) winning the FA Cup. Wenger has built a squad that was top of the league for a good patch of the season, then massive injuries came about, and it snowballed. Özi, Ramsey, Wilshere, Sanogo, Gnabry, Zelalem etc. are all going to get better with age, and Wenger is the right man to develop them If it wasn’t for an own goal in the 90th minute, people would say “We showed such character to come back!!! Arteta might not be what we need in… Read more »

Swansea, at home, and we should be lauded for showing character to come back and win?!? Come on mate, this is a game that had 3 points written all over it. Did you have a peek at their form guide (last 5 games: D L D L L)? Has it really come to this? We should expect to win a game like this and then go out and perform…..and we didn’t. First half was shambolic. Our most dangerous attacking player was our left back! At this point, nobody looks at the fixture list, sees Arsenal up next and thinks, “oh… Read more »

frankie from vienna

yeah and why always the massive amount of injuries? and then: wenger? spend some money in the summer?? you are kidding me…

Marduk

Was Sanogo for Giroud spot on?

Don Cazorleone

at the time yes, Giroud was a fucking travesty last night.

Maniac

It is totally beyond me why we constantly play the same tactics up front. Pass it around the box and then lob the ball in when there are no more options left and hope that Giroud, who always seems to be in the wrong position, gets a head on it. Only Sagna can really cross the ball properly yet we rely almost entirely on lofted balls to score goals. It’s time to change tactics Wenger, and in the summer bring in half a dozen decent players to fill the gaping holes in our squad.

Arteta's hair

Sagna a good crosser? First time i’ve heard that one.

Podobviouski

Mate Sagna is a fucking kickass crosser.
Notice how the team looks for Sagna when they want to punt the ball in the box?
He makes about 70% of our crosses, many of them pretty good too, but there is nobody in the box more often then not.
Except perhaps Giroud, but for all his famed size and strength he never gets his head to crosses.
Lame excuse for a target man, our Oli.

Mpls

That’s ok, 70000 (roughly speaking) comments on here don’t understand he’s a target and link up man anyway. They all whinge he’s not sprinting in behind. Don’t know what he’s supposed to do anyhow when midfielders ping a ball at him surrounded by 4-5 defenders and they don’t even continue their fucking runs to get the ball back, nevermind a third man making a run through. And nobody comes to when he’s pulling down a long ball. He’s got a thankless job 90% of the time, but still as many goals as Rooney, one less than Hazard, and two less… Read more »

Podobviouski

Agree.
When other teams make their fullbacks bomb forward and cross, they make sure there are 2-3 players (the striker and a couple of midfielders) in the box. That way they dont necessarily need a clean header to score, a bit of pinballing or a misplaced clearance or a keeper-parry and they can get someone on the end of it.
Meanwhile, Arsenal. Giroud. Alone.
It was so obvious against Swansea, Gibbs and Sagna putting quality crosses in and nobody challenging the ball.

Stillmatic

Sagna’s crossing has been very good this season but was poor last night.

AGunner

Poldi was todays star for me. yeah i know we play the system where the whole team defends together etc, but some players are simply not cut out for it, and for me Podolski is one of them – probably why hes underused by Wenger. We have a lot of players that can do it, problem is many are injured. The back four plus arteta/flamini/ramsey/rosicky can create a good team pressure in midfield, and can even press higher with the attackers if need be, but I think the whole team defending together tactic doesn’t work well for 90 minutes unless… Read more »

Some huge games coming up for us now. Unfortunately, never say never only goes so far and I think the League’s a step too far now. Securing top 4 is vital again to our season bei- wait, sensing some deja vu? In all seriousness, I’m going to be rightly fucking furious if we don’t prioritize the FA Cup because of our form in the league. We’ll make top four if we actually apply ourselves, but I refuse to believe any dribble that comes out about “Top 4 being the priority blah blah”. All of this is down to injuries and… Read more »

4th place is going to be a fight, but we’ll be there at the end…unless we’re not.

You never know with our team do you….we could have a late surge of form as in previous seasons.

Or we could lose 5-0 to Everton and have another crisis.

BenGunner

Think he played for the u21’s in the week so that may have been a factor in him not being brought on… I agree with sentiment though.

Kalstrom to start against Everton! (Please, god, please)

spinner

Tree trunk seems to be getting the lowest rating of the team by the readers.

I wonder where the mugsmashers would be in the league if they had our tree trunk instead of Suarez.

Fireman Sam

They’d be about 7th without the bitey racist I reckon.

Shame we didn’t get him eh.

Eurazian

It’s hard to make too many judgements about Kallstrom based on one substitute appearance, but he really looked to bring something that we’ve been missing. We are so ponderously slow to bring the ball out of defence, so the Swede’s ability to ping around some accurate long balls is a real breath of fresh air. As good as Arteta has been for us, his safe passing is also a big part of what is slowing us down and making us unable to threaten teams with pace. Giroud, of course, is the other main factor in that. There was one moment… Read more »

If Wenger couldn’t find a way to get the players fired up after saturday it bodes very poorly for the end of the season, too angry with the whole club at the moment to say anything rational

WengersNoseHair

Blah blah blah blah. Just think, it was Wenger’s 1000th game, the players had spoken highly of him, so too had many other people in the media, we were playing Chel$ki under Maureen, an old, despicable enemy at the top of the table, a chance to close the gap and re-ignite our title challenge. Everyone REALLY wanted to put in a big performance. And then they suffer one of the worse defeats in Arsenal’s modern history. Fuck me, everyone must have been utterly shattered after that game. This. He looks utterly helpless every single game. He is trying hard, but he also is one of the prime examples why this team is not good enough for the title race. Unbelievable that he seems to be Wenger’s first choice as a number 6..

Indiegooner

We love you too blogs..

rob

why do we get so many injuries every year, and no minor ones either . surely we get more than most of our closest rival?

Toby C

Not sure how Gibb’s crossing can be dangerous and yet at the same time Giroud got no service? Either Gibbs was launching pointless crosses into the box when no-one was there or Giroud couldn’t be arsed to get on the end of Gibb’s dangerous crosses. I hate football at the moment. We are paying the price for a lack of activity in the transfer market. Wenger clearly has little faith in Poldi and if he didn’t want to pay full whack for Draxler he should have bought someone else in ie a speedy winger and also a good striker. It’s… Read more »

Can’t say you can blame the players. Truth is we have been letting it slip since the last death run and the Stoke game was crucial. To let it to chance this late in the game does not help. Instead rather than putting teams away with aplomb like our immediate competitors, we are scrapping to win at best. Again I do not think we are not competitive in numbers or quality to the top teams. But the margins are slim and our shortfall particularly up front is telling. Just look at the GD, we are light weight and missing a… Read more »

Arsenal fans really are suckers if they buy that

G-Rod is an absolute waste of space upfront. He doesn’t provide any threat upfront. Couldn’t hold the ball properly and his touches were like a Yeti learning to play football. His usual flicks doesn’t help us and he always pings the ball played into him back into midfield. Bony was an example of how a forward can bring other players into the game. The goal after that peach of a pass from Podolski was served to him on plate and if he couldn’t score from there, no point calling him a striker. That was a lazy insipid performance from him… Read more »

I disagree regarding Arteta. Every time we sought to go forward, his reluctance to find Rosicky or Ox when they were under even nominal pressure meant we were passing it around between him, Per and Flamini for most of the game. He’s been effective as a playmaker for Everton but I just don’t think he can do it at our standards. Much better off as a DM who intercepts and feeds a playmaker, he’s getting stagnant now. Shows we need someone like Jack, Aaron or Mesut to provide some drive and incision. At the moment, watching Arsenal is hurting a… Read more »

What planet are you on? Song was NEVER going to be the next Vieira and for every goal he scored or goal-scoring chance he created, he gave the ball away 10 times ffs.

Giroud did what he had to, he couldn’t do much more. Santi and Arteta were shit though and Podolski is better when he comes from the bench. They learned nothing from saturday, same mistakes. Still pissed off about last night.

Fössil

Average rating 6 for a team creating 2 opportunities in 90 minutes against a weak Swansea at home… I am sure you rate Wenger a 9 too? He’s is the one to blame since this has been going on for 9 years now. We all need a change.
And the last goal remembered me of the league cup final. I am sure they(Mainly Wenger) will find a way of topping that shit sandwich in the FA Cup this year.

He has been such a wonderful servant of ours down through the years but time has caught up with him. The game has moved on. Everything about Wenger, from a football perspective, is now wrong. RomfordPele

Giroud is not world class. He is a good player though, and has proved during the first half of this season that he is good enough to play for us and helped to propel us to the top of the league. Sure, he is rank out of form at the moment, but he’s not shit. And how on earth is he supposed to play his way back into form when the team is playing so badly at the moment?
