Per and Mikel on a ‘perfect’ and ‘memorable’ parade

Having paraded the FA Cup through the streets of North London and indulged in a bit of sing-song Sp*rs baiting outside the Emirates, Arsenal’s stars have labelled their Sunday in the sun as ‘perfect’.

Despite nursing sore heads after last night’s celebrations the players took to two open top buses at 11am as they crawled along Holloway Road and Upper Street in front of more than 250,000 emotionally drained Gooners.

Speaking to Arsenal Player about the last 24 hours, vice-captain Mikel Arteta put into context the importance of enjoying the end of a 9-year trophy wait:

“It’s a perfect day to celebrate. Hopefully we’re all going to enjoy it because it was a tough day yesterday but it ended up in the best way possible so we’re really happy to be here.

“We had some difficult years and it took a while to build this team and this spirit but I think yesterday was the best example of what it means for us and how much we want it. It’s for everyone to deserve – especially for the fans because they’ve been terrific through the year again. Now it’s time to enjoy it – that’s what we fight for and we’ve got the first trophy for years.

“It’s a massive club and we have great support. Even away from home, the fans are always with us so it’s a chance to enjoy, celebrate and have a good summer afterwards.

“The celebrations were good fun with a bit of singing. It was great fun. I think the atmosphere between the players is so natural and good so we’re all going to have fun.”

Fellow vice-captain Per Mertesacker – “Arsenal till he dies” don’t you know – added that the atmosphere at the parade serves as both a confidence boost and a huge motivation for the future:

“The targets for any football player is to get this atmosphere, to smell this atmosphere. It’s my first time in England and we have to enjoy it but it’s going to be a great ambition to come back here one day.

“At one stage it’s enjoyable to be here and it’s a happy day for the fans and all the players together. It gives us more confidence to create more of that.

“That’s what I’ve learned very quickly that Arsenal is very big, internationally but here in Islington as well. We are very proud to present something today here to those fabulous fans. Overall we’re very pleased, it’s a memorable day for anyone at this club.”

An amazing day to cap off an amazing weekend. Football…it’s alright sometimes isn’t it?

Well done all.

GoonTang

What a parade, what a game, and overall good season. Our points total this season would have been enough to be champions in the 3 former PL seasons, or come at least 2nd in another 8, yet we finished 4th. We were only 7 points off the top this year. Wenger also showed his class yesterday by doing his homework and instructing Cazorla to hit the free kicks to the keepers left (they mentioned this on Arsenal Player). So overall – progress. A great season and we’ll do a lot more next year. Also – 90,000 City fans for winning… Read more »

London is Red.
London is Arsenal.
London is class.
Class is Arsenal.

Fin

Hey Mouriniho, yea you, go fuck yourself with our former 9 year monkey.

ARiddlingName

I hope Mourinho doesn’t get fired for not winning anything this season…

So that next season we go to Stamford Bridge, smash them, then he gets fired. Now that would be perfect.

Xhani

What a beautiful weekend:’)

Gooneron

It was long overdue

Lulu

Watching Jack looking so fresh today reminded me of being 23. I could party for a week then. Now it’s a good 4 hrs.

Just A Gentleman

Arteta last won with the Rangers back in 02-03, he’s endured a trophyless run as well.
Now he’s ended both trophyless runs with him captaining the team to glory. (captain in the final)

What a match him and Arsenal. 🙂

Lord Nicki B

The loud Diaby Diaby chants…hope it inspires him to come back in the form of his life

ARiddlingName

Form hasn’t really been a problem for Diaby. Last season when he played after a year against Liverpool he won the MOTM despite Santi and Poldi getting a goal and assist each. Hope he stays fit and if he does he’ll be wearing the jersey when we lift cups in the years to come 🙂

Lord Nicki B

Is it just me or does Wenger start looking extra young when he picks up a trophy

Atletico Islington

Looked about thirty five jogging up the stairs with his shirt untucked yesterday.

Gooneron

Its sure has been a long time since I saw Wenger as happy as he is. The man deserved that cup and the 9 year old monkey be lifted from his and the teams back. Hope now it finds a cosy rich home on Maureens back for a lifetime. Specialist in failure, lol. He who laughs last laughs best. COYG.

ZenithReptile

My mum’s name is Maureen, she’s a nice lady and a gooner.

A Yank in King Arsene's West Stand

Brilliant time at the parade!!! If you haven’t seen anything (or want to re-live) this video has the best stuff from the stadium, including everyone on the mic. Hat-tip to Jack, of course, and Theo (for starting “Bacary Sagna we want you to stay”) http://youtu.be/xuV1hk7vf-Q

What an amazing fucking weekend. So proud of our boys. Can’t wait till next season!!!!

Also loved this interview with Rambo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SV3K9Cukps

graham

Thanks a million! Went up there and couldn’t get anywhere near the ground, superb!

DLDC

video has been pulled by Arsenal according to You Tube

jay

And mourinho wins nothing because he’s a specialist in failure

ken

Stayed in Islington back in April and it makes me happy to know that some of the people I met will be just as elated as I myself. So happy to see the boys win a trophy again.

Gooner till I die!

GreekTragedy

I loved Santi Cazorla singing his own song on the back of the bus. That and Jack shouting ‘what is shit?!’ before sky sports news had a chance to cut him off. Fucking awesome weekend, never been prouder to be a gooner.

ARiddlingName

Bellerin shared a vine of Jacky doing that on his official twitter page. Great to see! 😀

Gooneron

Feels great to be a Gooner

gunnering mouth

Timo

Monkey spotted late yesterday leaving Islington, asking directions for Stamford Bridge

Oluwapunkey

Its a relief…a huge relief to end that 9year trophy drought now all haters can go to hell all they like….i lost my voice to shouting and singing for the arsenal yesterday and it was worth it….oh i love the arsenal

cheekyjc

I’m still unable to speak!

the only sam is nelson

what a fucking lovely day yesterday. brilliant

and rather than winning at a canter we even made it interesting for the neutrals by coming back from 2-0 down.

and even better than that, all the spuds who would have been creaming themselves after 10 minutes would have been choking on the bitter disappointment of realising that the mighty Arsenal have won another trophy, whilst spuds are still looking for their eleventieth manager since AW started winning stuff at Arsenal.

Cphgirl

Ohh it’s good to be a gonner…..Now I’m off to bed. The last 48 hours have been magical … Proud of The lads, The boss and ARSENAL F.C

WhatHappened

“ooh to be a Gooner”

David

250,000? That love is crazy.

ChrisM

I’m gutted I wasn’t there, but I’m fucking impressed by the turn out. Well done to all involved!

Lash89

Two things. I’ve been critical of Wenger’s management after the league challenge collapse. But the man is class all the way. This victory (which he whole heartedly deserves) wasn’t about him, but about the players and the club. He showed that throughout the celebrations. Unlike Mourinho who makes it all about him and the number of trophies he has won as a manager.
Then Koscielny, man, he has been big for Arsenal. Last 2 seasons, goals in the final games for 4th place and an equalizer today. A hidden gem. Credit to Wenger again.

BelfastGooner

Hey guys anyone know where I can watch the full match again as I forgot the record the frigging thing yesterday !!!

A Yank in King Arsene's West Stand

It’s up on Arsenal Player.

That’s not to say that I just watched the whole thing again, after spending my Saturday evening at Wembley, night watching the highlights, Sunday morning at the parade and afternoon watching Youtube videos of the players celebrating. No, I… I definitely haven’t spent my last day and a half’s worth of waking hours living and re-living one football match. That’d be weird.

N21 Tone

I would officially on behalf of Arsenal FC pass the money that was on our back to Maureen and his Chavs. That is all!

cheekyjc

They have enough money already 😉

heroldgoon

I was there and no, i do not have the words.

Webbeldez

Did everyone sit down and block the Hollaway Road today too? This weekends smiles will be remembered for a long while.

Well played everyone!!

Ryanttc

Its funny how a cup win suddenly makes me want giroud to stay.this team is really special.the age balance and positivity.i dont think i want anyone of them to leave.but i also want wenger to really strengthen the squad with players of aguero or negredo calibre.manshitty really got a quality squad.and as much as i love every single one of the current squad member,i feel that we still need one more world class player.someone who can really change a whole game himself.just look at bale or suarez.we still need to find our game changer.if we want to be the best,we… Read more »

Amazing !!!!!!

Heisenberg

I watched the game at Emirates on the big screen. Even though we made hard work of it we did the business in the end. Kind of fitting that Ramsey scored the winning goal! Also pleased that Arsenal are the first club to win this new 3rd generation of the FA Cup trophy. Long may this beautiful feeling continue throughout the summer and be the catalyst for even greater things next season! COME ON YOU GUNNERS!

Headgooner

At Wembley and I had tears in my eyes after the final whistle and my hands were not steady enough to hold the camera. Beautiful day.

piken79

My first trophy as an Arsenal fan..well worth the wait.

Chaplin35

Just got to love Per

Benriz

I can’t stop smiling!

Momo (@MuhamLAD)

That was the greatest weekend I’ve had as an Arsenal fan since Henry scored against Leeds in that loan spell. I had chills when people started chanting for Bacary to stay, seeing his reaction to how loved he is by 250,000+ people was great.

All the Tottenham chants were great too, so glad our club has kept our cultural identity embedded in the players. More than can be said about so many other clubs (e.g. Spurs, Newcastle, Chelsea & City)

Angolan Girl Who Loves The Gunner

I wish i was there…oh well, but i watched the parade in Sky News Sports and it…was…Massive! 🙂 . So cool! . I heard we wanted to borrow Chelski’s bus, but it got destroyed by atletico de madrid. Well, is wasting our golden time borrowing stuff from that classless club with a arrogant cunt and specialist in failure manager like josephine. Forward Gunners this is the start of a new era. With so much young and amazing talent and leaders! COYG! 🙂

Hessojay

No words, but that it feels good to be a Gunner! Expeçting more trophy laden years to come!

Arsene's Zip

When our third goal went in I very nearly threw my two week old son (Freddie) through the ceiling!

heroldgoon

Throw him anyway, im pretty sure he needs to know the ups and downs of being a gooner.

Naija Gunner

Still don’t know what to say other than ” we fucking won our trophy”
