Cazorla dismisses transfer rumours

Santi Cazorla has dismissed suggestions he could leave Arsenal this summer stressing rumours of a return to Spain are nothing but newspaper gossip.

The 29-year-old midfielder put pen-to-paper on a contract extension at the Emirates as recently as March but that hasn’t stopped many a red top regurgitating links with a move to newly crowned La Liga champions, Atletico Madrid.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope (translation by Sporting Life) in the aftermath of Arsenal’s 3-0 Community Shield victory over Manchester City, Cazorla poured cold water on the speculation:

“I’ve seen the links in the papers, but nobody has told me anything personally and the only things I know are from the papers, so I don’t know anything.

“I’m only focused on training here and preparing well playing with Arsenal. It’s paper talk.

“I’m well, I have the confidence of everybody, the support of the fans and we hope to have a good season.”

For their part Atletico Madrid were quick to dismiss interest in Cazorla earlier in the summer, so quite why the link continues to cause Santi a nuisance is beyond us. Let’s hope this draws a line under things and he can get on with scoring ace goals that win trophies.

Good! Wouldn’t want people thinking we’re a ‘selling club’ like those Mugsmashers, now would we?

AS17 is for A.Sanchez not A.song

well put mate! absolutely arse-tastic!

Steve

Would be nice lol but we all know the hacks regurgitates dross on a frequent basis – especially if it “proves” their point/agenda. “Arsenal are a selling club, look santi is off to athletico… fact” – that type of dross will carry on till September and start again mid December!!!!

ArsenalHobbit

I sat down to write a list of reasons Arsene would be willing to sell Santi for anything other than a ludicrous offer.

1.

That’s as far as I got.

Amusa

Cazorla can’t leave. We need him to score crucial goals for us in Cup finals.
Plus he is the only one in the team that can score from distance. And those magic feet!

Sean

Giroud may have something to say about that after yesterday

NutellyOnrye

poldi?

Craig Noone?

George the Gooner

Twinkle toes. No one like Santi.

Karl

The papers always try and put 2 + 2 together and come up with 7.

Dan cooper

Vital to the team be stupid to sell !!!

Goonerestgooner

It was the same with the Balotelli rumour, even after Wenger and Balo’s club came out and said it was rubbish.

Coincidently, I’m looking for a new job, I reckon I’ve got the skills required to be a sports journalist.

Bob Truelove

Same thing with the Campbell to Galatasary rumour. Still chuntering on even after Arsene denied it.

MoMo

Would fans sing this or isit too childish?

We got an alex here and a callum there. In out in out chambos everywhere. They do the hokey dokey and they turn around thats what they all about

Twice, really!!

Daniel

If we sold Santi I think I’d cry

Strevs

I think there might be some outs before the end of the window. We have a tonne of midfielders. Happy for him to stay, but I think poldi might be off, Campbell and gnabry out on loan. If we got the right money for santi I could see arsenal selling, he’s 29, not really fast enough for the wing, and we are stacked in the middle (which is where Arsene originally bought him for), don’t want him to go, but he’s not irreplaceable.

AnonymousGun

After we got the required depth, now you want us to sell and loan out players?

goonerbynature

I just love watching Santi in tight spaces. Not to mention, he’s a big game player.

RoyaleWithCheese

I love him so much that I’m starting to doubt whether I’d actually like to have him in my tight spaces.

AnonymousGun

He is a big game small player 😀

Stupid gooner

On his day I think he is our most dangerous player and that is saying something! Glad he is staying with his two footed feet!

Policeman's Bangers 'N' Mash

Strevs you’re out of your mind!

Wenger's Tits

Santi is our Messi except he has two feet 🙂

Yuuchan

I think Messi also has two feet

Strevs

Thanks policeman’s sausages, not sure why I’m out of my mind. It was hardly piers Morgan extreme! I said id be happy if he stayed, but if we have giroud up top, theo,Sanchez or OX playing wing, ozil, Rosicky, Ramsey, wilshere, flamini, and Arteta for central positions, where does he play? Hence why I think Poldi might be off (which also sucks). Big game player? In the cup final for sure, but he was anonymous against bayern, and he doesn’t have the swoon of pires. Two footed yes, great shot? Yes. Fast enough for a counter attacking wing game? I… Read more »

Still my favourite player. Can’t wait to see a front 3 of Theo, Santi and Alexis

up4grabs

Is Walcott guaranteed a spot? Fantastic that is so much competition for places right now.

houstongooner

that FA cup free-kick!

ramsey's spirit

Good man Santi, and to be honest, fair play by Athletico Madrid too, they didn’t have to say anything but they did and it was well intentioned.

Cygan'sBaldSpot

Cazorla is probably the most underrated player in the league.

richardanus

Fuck off newspapers. And internet hacks.

derby

I’m so biased on all things Arsenal that I would have none of it if anyone tells me that we could improve on any of the 25 squad players. However, when push comes to shove, the first players I want to see on the team sheet apart from the back 5 right now are Cazorla, Ozil and Sanchez. Theo and Ramsey are starting to make a strong case to be included, and I carry a (very very) weak spot for Jack as well. It’d be an astonishing step back to have to make do without that wizard at this point,… Read more »

Ritesh

Cazorla is brilliant and I absolutely love him. Glad to hear that all this transfer talk is rubbish. However, with reference to your comment, it is interesting that you say Ramsey is making a case to be included in the first eleven. For me, Ramsey will be the first name on the team sheet. He was sensational last season and hopefully will push on and help us win the Premier League.

Sean

My favorite Santi moments are when he takes free kicks with his weaker foot better than half the league does with their strong foot.

rochester

which is his weaker foot? I think it’s strong and stronger. Love Santi, Had to change my dog’s name from Persie, his name is now Santi. Funny, he was always a bit miserable and didn’t mind well, now he’s happy all the time and comes running to his name.

GUNNER4LIFE

I love this little fella!!!!

Duckandchips

Earlier, someone mentioned Ramsay has a “strong case” to be “included” in the starting eleven. He’s essential. Of course out other players are great, but Ramsay will be the pulse of the team. He was everywhere on Sunday and he’s hungry too. He wanted it more than anyone on that pitch. We need a guy like that and hopefully that’ll rub off on other players. As for Santi, he’s an important player but I’ll be honest and say that if we resigned Cesc, I wouldn’t have minded too much if Santi went back to Spain. I don’t know sbout you… Read more »

Have to say, I love the way the Puma shirt sits over his pert (actually quite big) bottom

kessa

Ahhh santi, a real little gem and skillful with both feet. He best not go anywhere anytime soon.

Jimbo

Santi is the definition of opening a can of beans with your feet.
