Patient Walcott glad to be back

Theo Walcott says he’s glad to be back after playing 45 minutes for Arsenal’s U21s this evening, but admits he’s got to be patient before he makes his first team comeback.

The winger played for the cub for the first time since rupturing his cruciate back in January, and although he came through the game unscathed, it appears this is very much the first step after such a serious injury.

Speaking to the official site this evening after the 0-0 draw with Blackburn, he said, “It was good, nice to get a little blow out, it’s a been a hard, long, nine months, and first I’ve gotta say a massive thank you to all the Arsenal medical team because without them I wouldn’t have been able to do what I’ve done.

“I’ve had so much support right from the start so it’s nice to go out there and kick a ball. It’s not just a job, it’s something I’ve enjoyed doing and I’ve really missed it.

Asked if he felt any ill effects from the game, he said, “Not at all. I always need to go out and play to the best of my abilty, you don’t think about that and I got through it.

“I think it’s important to recover and I have to be a bit patient. The manager will choose to play when he wants and it’s not something thats going to happen overnight. I need to just be calm and not get too excited right now.”

After such a long period out, and with plenty of options for the forward positions, it would be foolish to rush him, but it’s a good sign that he’s back playing and fingers crossed he can start making an impact in the first team pretty soon.

Welcome back Theo, your services were greatly missed. Now we have alot of options on attack

Crispy

We have missed him so much. Glad he can concentrate on his football now that it looks like he’s got the formula one championship sewn up. It will only confuse refs more though if he’s in the side with Alex Gibbs.

ksasikumar90

It was looking like he was on his way to having his best season last year before unfortunate injuries. All we need is for him to be injury free And he will finally fulfill his potential which would be huge for the club.

This article has put a big smile on my face!

Twinsinfrance

I was frightened when I saw the word “patient” in the headline. First thoughts were hospital, Little setback niggle, Ebola…

Whew…

A K 57

Can’t wait for him to play in the first team. I saw him making runs against Southampton last season. His movement was as if someone pressed the fast forward button. It will be a nightmare for defenders.

UnByeUsGoner

We can win the league, I don’t want anyone saying otherwise, Walcott is a short Aubameyang unfortunately but he’ll do.

Danskin

We’ve to be really careful with him. It’s important that we don’t rush him back. Let him recover his match fitness with the under21’s and then he can play for the first-team.
